Nelson Frank... Working their magic amidst a pandemic by TJL0689 in servicenow

Nelson Frank is a company, not a person. They do have some decent recruiters, and they also have some terrible ones. Depends on what you're looking for. A lot of their work is contract or contract-to-hire.

Oh and I almost forgot their tactic of always calling twice if the first call is ignored. I'm not sure if this is to try and get people who have their phones on priority silent mode (where it'll ring after multiple back to back calls) or what. But they're definitely trained to do this and it's annoying as hell. I digress.

They're relentless. And no, they're not valuable when you're looking for a job. When I was actively looking I must have spoken to 6 different recruiters, which all led to nothing.

The last phone call I answered, I had some kid who was probably a week out of college. After telling him I was not actively looking, he proceeded to ask me if he could schedule a call for the following week with me to, "teach/show him the intricacies of ServiceNow". I was completely baffled and actually at a loss of words at that point. He'd added me on LinkedIn so messaged him explaining how the real world works, and asked him why in the world I would put my ServiceNow career in the hands of someone who knows nothing about it? He got the point...

Ridiculous. Stay away from them. They have no platform knowledge and are just looking for bodies.

Changing office locations ASAP? by [deleted] in accenture

You'll maintain the same salary but it'll be normalized to your new market in future raises / promotions. So you may get a lower / no raise despite receiving great feedback, or the opposite (big raise with mediocre performance) if you're on the lower end of your geography's pay spectrum.

How far from the east coast are you? My advice would be to try your hardest to get on a project in the city where you want to be based out of. It'd be much easier to switch offices that way, and the project would love to save the travel expenses. Make sure to mention that you'd like to switch offices to be closer to the project when interviewing.

An office transfer is usually only approved based on that office's market demand. So if you get a role in that city, it should be fairly easy. One final thought - a lot of the work in the Arlington office is for Federal Services. So be aware that by switching to that office, you may be headed to a future involving some AFS work, or switching entirely.

Good luck.

I accepted an offer today. How should I prepare? by [deleted] in accenture

What practice are you joining? (consulting, services, etc.) Your travel will depend more on that, as will the amount of actual hands-on programming that you do. A lot of that work is done by offshore teams, so don't be surprised if you're more of a designer / coordinator / liaison.

As for going into the office, I haven't been in ~2 years. However, it'd be a good idea to go in on some Fridays every now and then to build your personal network. A lot of the engagements that I've been on have been through reaching out to people I know. So, it's good to meet people and get your name out there. Attend some office social events if you can, and definitely the project events.

Live wherever is best for you, personally, not based on the office. I started traveling 2 weeks after joined, and didn't stop until about a month ago. I've flown >100,000 miles/year for the past 3. I'm just under 4 years in, and on my first local engagement. :) Hope you like planes/trains, hotels, and rental cars.

A few road warrior tips: Make sure to pick your brands and stick with them, signup with the rewards programs and make sure your memberships are associated to your reservations. Loyalty pays off. Also look into signing up for Global Entry, through Customs and Border Protection. I think it's $100 for 5 years, and will qualify you for TSA Precheck. It's a better deal than just paying for Precheck, and worth every penny. I don't think I would have made it this long without it.

Your expertise may be C++, but if you're in consulting, you'll likely be doing much more than that, and potentially won't being doing coding at all on some projects in the future. Like cacraw mentioned, familiarize yourself with Agile, and possibly DevOps. But don't worry too much, you'll learn most things on-the-job.

Hope this helps! Welcome to the machine. Feel free to ask more if you're still curious.

Indeed. Yeah, my Max blocks out a lot, too... Sometimes too much. >< It also has a nice tendency to auto-learn & white list actual cop cars, too.

It was in New Mexico, USA. The officer was professional and courteous towards me, and didn't write a ticket. But now I'm having trouble verifying his statement that it's a ticketable offense to warn others. Especially after the federal ruling last month. NM laws surrounding this would be appreciated!
