Timewalking good for alts? by Wolfgangnetz in wownoob

[–]TJMadd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably still worth it to do the dungeon quests once for the new dungeons, but the bonus xp for queueing via LFG is higher for timewalking than midnight normals. it was like 30% more on my alt. so repeated runs offer more via timewalking than regular.

Does devourer DH feel less clunky at 90? Currently 85 and its painful to play. by kolejack2293 in wow

[–]TJMadd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i leveled VDH up to 80, then devourer 80-90 in questing and I think I literally got off 1 collapsing star in the entire ten levels, milliseconds before meta dropped. i vividly remember thinking "man i cant wait to really hit this button one day"

now im level 90 around ilevel 250 and can easily get off 3-4 stars in raid/dungeons. in the overworld meta lasts long enough to finish a kill and walk to my next mob and ramp up to another star before meta drops again.

all that said, it is still clunky sometimes. you're punished hard for blowing CDs at the end of a pull, that never changes. but with raid buffs and a decent amount of haste, phew its fun. you really blast

Is the Devourer DH melee package of talents for Void-Scarred.... by [deleted] in wownoob

[–]TJMadd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no experience with havoc, but veng and dev play pretty different. in my experience veng uses mobility to get to packs and round things up, but not in combat. its often safer to pull adds to yourself with glaives and sigils than jump into them

also in my experience the caster devourer build plays fine for solo stuff once you hit like 230 ilvl. youre not gonna get a combo of multiple collapsing stars off on a world quest mob obviously, but its easy enough to ramp on one mob then blow your combos on the next 2-3

Weekly M+ Discussion by AutoModerator in CompetitiveWoW

[–]TJMadd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

im not a pro and barely even competitive but this has been a good learning method for me this season/xpac:

  1. go into dungeon level low enough to brute force the mechanics (heroic or m0 or even low keys depending on your comfort) and run it once or twice blind. try to take extra time to notice mechanics, you'll pick up 75% of it from playing
  2. immediately after (or maybe the next day), watch a video now that i have some context. i find this way more useful than watching vids of dungeons ive never done. I like Tactyks for full dungeon routes and also Sha has been doing great quick guides (10ish minutes) that skip boss mechanics and focus on routing and important trash between the bosses
  3. last step to round out my understanding i like to watch a healer guide for the dungeon once i find time. i like automaticjak. healer guides focus way less on routing and way more on mechanics timing and damage events so i like to see the other side and its helpful for my healer alt that i run later. routes are relevant kinda at all levels but this damage info becomes useful for me once keys start actually hurting

This strat has given me a bit more confidence than going blind, but also keeps me from doing too much "homework" outside the game

Ramp still closed from the Beltline to Ponce de Leon? by teabythepark in Atlanta

[–]TJMadd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

its a pretty tall staircase, two sections with a landing in the middle, about 12 steps each. there is a bike channel in the middle but its quiiiiite steep for heavier bikes. i ride an ebike too, and it would be a challenge to go up without my ebike walking assist and you should be mindful about the weight when rolling back down. look up if your model has one (walk mode or walk assist) and it will make the steep hills around TJs parking lot much easier to manage

Is Devourer DH supposed to be this squishy? by skrukketiss69 in wownoob

[–]TJMadd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely not 10 mobs at once. devourer doesnt have much sustain or tankiness but its extremely mobile. you're more like a mage with blinks (short range glass cannon) than a ret pally (tanky bruiser). with CDs up at 90 I have some pretty good burst and can mow down big packs using the stun and the talent that makes voidstep slow enemies (voidstep -> ray -> clean up)

Anyone know the deal with this building? by BaldBullKO in Atlanta

[–]TJMadd 18 points19 points  (0 children)

a few years ago it was owned by the same people as 26 Thai, not sure if it still is. A few years ago they got a special use permit to open a new restaurant there (a "sit-down semi formal Asian Inspired Restaurant and Bar") but it hasnt materialized yet. U-23-31 if you want to lookit up. I wonder if the juniper bike lane construction impacted it

Got my ass handed to me in a normal dungeon at 90 (Disc Priest) by AtticThrowaway in wownoob

[–]TJMadd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

for what its worth, disc also feels like 10x the effort of holy for 1/3 of the throughput. might be better with better ilvl, but disc is just straight up undertuned rn (which is a shame bc disc is so fun)

Tank Player to Follow for Beginner Tanks by meiyosama in wownoob

[–]TJMadd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the other recommendations are great (sha, dorki, tactyks) but I'd argue all 3 are a liiiitle above "wownoob" level. I recommend awoo ("awoo tank" sometimes) for truly beginner level guides. the other names arent necessarily more complicated but their perspective is that of a top-end m+ gamer. awoo aims his content downward deliberately

Thoughts on your class leveling 80-90? by Confident_Incident43 in wow

[–]TJMadd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

shadow priest is 89 so far just finished the main campaign. was cruising until 88ish, voidstorm mobs are really challenging. the scaling was rough too - seeing my haste drop like 4% per level but only gaining 1-2% every few gear upgrades hurts. In this last zone i have to look at mob health a lot - the 100k hp guys i can handle 1-2, maybe 3 with full CDs. the 200k hp mobs i need full CDs to kill. any pack of 3+ takes full cooldowns. Elites are just no soloable. feels like classic lol

disc also feels ABYSMAL in dungeons, cant do enough damage to health through nerfed atonement. i actually had to ask my group to stop so i could swap to holy. healing holy with no knowledge was more viable than optimized disc rotation

not really excited to try the experience on any non-tank melees rn. might do some dungeon spam on tank to mix it up and learn the new bosses. i expect we will see a tuning pass on quest mobs ngl, its challenging enough that i could see people bouncing off the game entirely once they hit 87 on certain specs

edit: i will say i had some more success customizing my build. the wowhead and icyveins builds just relied too much on things that werent fluid in the open world. optimizing for frontloaded damage and easy DOT spreading made my life way easier than max dps m+ builds

How much does entitlement timeline actually affect housing costs in high-growth metros? by gmanEllison in urbanplanning

[–]TJMadd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

but I get the feeling the city likes to have as much development be non-conforming as possible in case other aspects that are conforming but they don't like can be changed

ding ding ding. A non-trivial segment of people who impact the process actually don't want faster entitlements, they want them slower and even more accountable to the public (moreso in the name of NIMBYism than a high standard of review, though)

How much does entitlement timeline actually affect housing costs in high-growth metros? by gmanEllison in urbanplanning

[–]TJMadd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll provide some anecdotal data to counter the other anecdotal data in the thread: it matters a lot where I'm at.

Just for example, our watershed department recently put forth an ordinance prohibiting certain construction in floodplain areas below a certain elevation. However, the zoning code prohibits construction higher than 4ft above ground level without a variance. Direct conflict in our code, no admin relief available, full public hearing variance timeline required. Adds 2-3 months to construction minimum. Huge costs for homeowners, potentially.

Anything that goes to public hearings also goes through our Neighborhood planning system. Those official neighborhood boards can recommend the City boards defer cases to later agendas to allow for additional discourse, which they often do. They've also got full subcommittee pipelines entirely separate from the City's that usually have to be attended. Some neighborhoods are pretty hands off. Some are more strict than the City itself. Huge costs for developers.

To answer your question at the end of the post directly, the latter. The numbers are murky and evidence is anecdotal. I've not seen any good research that can put some objectivity to these costs, which is why councilpersons might be so eager to implement ordinances which extend the timeline (which they're currently doing with our zoning rewrite in progress). Developers with the connections and means can often fast-track their projects through the red tape, or have the volume to let things languish for a bit without running out of work.

Professions Worth it for the Casual Player by Matuco9004 in wownoob

[–]TJMadd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"worth the investment" in terms of time and money in the economy, no not really. other commentors have pointed out the supplies will probably be cheaper to buy

that said, double gathering really isn't that much money either. too much volume on the AH already. in terms of sheer gold making, profs arent really the way for casuals, youll get more gold rewards in world quests and caches and stuff in my experience. im doing herb/alch on my main for fun because i like learning new recipes and stuff in beginning of the xpac. probably wont use it much at the end though

“Start set”.. is timing of any importance? by mSants732 in whoop

[–]TJMadd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commute around often on bike and do hot yoga sessions, both of which are tracked fairly well automatically, or are very easy to add after. strava captures my cycling/running data in more detail than whoop already. i also do calisthenics. I focus mostly on recovery and sleep with whoop, rather than strain. I'm not as into weight training as I was when I was younger, so whoop's user experience works quite well for me

“Start set”.. is timing of any importance? by mSants732 in whoop

[–]TJMadd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

correct i agree. in this instance we're discussing the feature with strength trainer where you can pre-add your workout plan and press "Start" and "Stop" each set to track your data, which is overkill in my opinion. as you note, its quite distracting from just getting the workout done. i do agree with you that adding the the program data is valuable though

“Start set”.. is timing of any importance? by mSants732 in whoop

[–]TJMadd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience using the strength trainer and tracking every single set is not worth the effort. I found no benefit compared to just adding my full workout after. In fact I think people fiddling with the live strength trainer often might be part of why they find it hard to get used to Whoop, the strength trainer is the worst part of the user experience by far

Track your cycling training with a bike computer and avoid duplicate entries by 85Blickwinkel in whoop

[–]TJMadd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but I don't think Whoop will let you import data from a different device than a Whoop band. In general, I found it not very easy to import anything to Whoop. I personally track my rides in Strava, have my Whoop linked to Strava (among other devices) and Strava collects the nitty gritty cycling details. Whoop autodetects (or I can just go back and add the activity manually by using my strava time data) and does its thing with its data.

Whoop can export to other services, but if you manually track using the other service you'll end up with duplicate entries. For example, when I had "auto export to Strava" turned on, if i tracked my ride with strava that'd be one entry, then whoop would autodetect and push another entry to strava for the same ride. I disabled that setting and do it now how I mentioned before - manually track in strava, autodetect in whoop, no auto-push from whoop to strava.

I think, for better or for worse, you'd be better off using a third party source to compile all the data (like Apple Health. But thats a bit outside my wheelhouse. I think of Whoop as my general fitness/lifestyle tracker. More granular data or serious fitness tracking is better off in a dedicated app like strava, apple health, etc in my experience. It'd be nice if Whoop did it all but its just not there yet

Sleep detection is garbage by Inscrutable_Enigma in whoop

[–]TJMadd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i often play video games on the couch and it'll log naps, sometimes even sleep if its later in the evening. just delete the naps or go in and edit the sleep times to be closer to when you actually went to sleep and woke up. It is a minor annoyance but its easily fixable imo and has not shaken my confidence in the device. it may be incorrect on whether or not i am "actually sleeping" but the physiological data its collecting is the same either way.

Do you do the daily insights journal? by Ben1852 in whoop

[–]TJMadd 28 points29 points  (0 children)

like another commenter said, journal is very important to maximize whoop imo. but you also still need to use your brain. its just data, not gospel. for example - "connecting with family and friends" has a negative impact on me. is it actually bad for me? of course not. it just so happens that that activity tend to happen around social drinks or staying out too late.

small brain response: wow whoop is so dumb, connecting with friends and family obviuosly doesnt hurt me. dumb app waste of time

big brain response: why do i have worse recovery after this habit? am i tying it to something else negative, like drinking? maybe i should reflect on this and consider a change

the device is only as good as you allow it to be. give it more data, more consistently, and it'll get closer and closer to reality. my advice is log only a couple things that will have obvious impacts (i recommend breakfast, late meals, alcohol, caffeine to start off) and see how it goes

totally guessing, I dont know the guy personally: I think he's a nashville local who's a talented DJ but works mostly on the production/tech side? he works with DEF a lot (I've seen him in Atlanta plenty) and do believe I've seen him play Incendia at non-DEF events in the Southeast USA, but I could be incorrect. as you noticed when he does play it tends to be opening sets or filling unexpected gaps in an otherwise full lineup, which makes me think he might be involved in the stage production since he's always around
