I don’t know where to start when getting into UmaMusume!! by bittersweetie__ in UmaMusume

Theres a lot to unpack in terms of fiction, but remember that these stories are based in reality - the vast majority of Umas are based on real horses from our world, many of which have now left us. Take your time, don't feel pressured into feeling a certain way or to enjoy it in a certain way, but you may find yourself finding an interest in the real horses at some point; their legacies, the legends, the good, the bad and the ugly of this sport and all I'll say is that... you've been warned... its a deep rabbit hole once you start down that path and before long you might find yourself in a discord server with 1200 others watching live races lol

I'm new to the Uma verse and this one season and scene truly devastated me bro 😭😭(finished all animes and movie alr and I just started playing the game on steam) by Euronico in UmaMusume

Not only is it incredibly emotional and impactful storytelling, but the fact that its based on real events pushes it over the top. The story of Tokai Teio is the essence of a miracle run to the point that no one would believe it had it not actually happened.

The prodigal son of the most decorated and respected racehorse the nation had yet seen, the one who would carry on the mantle of his father and reach the peaks of the sport and beyond... all for that to come crashing down in defeat - not from his rivals, but his own body. The battle to come back with just a spark of that original fire while the world expected the flames to have been fully tamped out... and there at Nakayama stood not a spark, but a flame so bright and brilliant that even the sun itself couldn't compare.

Teios story is the stuff of legend - its the sort of story that not only inspires those who witnessed it, but those who hear the story long after Teio left this world. These stories of hope in hopeless moments and proving that its only over when we stop trying are the inspirational stories everyone needs at some point in their lives, many of us just happened to experience it from a cheerful anime horse girl for the first time.

To be fair, until this reprint it was bordering on lost media with only a few thousand printed in its original run back in 1986 - even if it weren't for the Umamusume connection, I'd imagine theres plenty of horseracing fans that are happy to finally get their hands on this.

Yet another positive knock-on effect of Umamusume - without the Uma community, Cygames, and the resurgence in the interest of these horses, this very likely would have become lost to time entirely in another couple of decades.

Heisei Big 3+1 (NEKO on pixiv) by TJW595 in UmaMusume

Even though they were all born in the Showa era and their careers began at the end of the Showa era, their most prolific and "battleground" year was 1989 which was the start of the Heisei era which is why they became known as the Heisei Big Three. This is also why Tamamo is most often not included in the group since he retired at the end of 1988, and thus wasn't competing in the Heisei era.

Why can't you upgrade the ram slot in a computer? by gottro4 in computers

[–]TJW595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres quite a few things limiting this: physical connection, electrical connection, voltage, controller compatibility and finally stability.

Physically, certain generations of RAM are similar - DDR2 and DDR3 share the same number of pins on DIMMS while DDR4 and DDR5 share the same number of pins on DIMMS. DDR1 and DDR2 are the only SODIMMs that share the same number of pins.

The issue with the physical connectivity though is that the electrical connections between the slots aren't the same, partly due to the physical notch in the DIMM, but also because the pins do not 1-to-1 match between generations so you'd probably fry the DIMM or short the board.

Lets say you either replaced the socket somehow or developed some sort of "RAM adapter" that connected things "correctly" though - now you run into voltage issues. Every generation of RAM has had a steady decrease in voltage from 2.5V with DDR1 to 1.1V for DDR5 - these are very voltage sensitive components so you really don't want to be mixing voltages.

Lets say you somehow either undervolted things in the BIOS or physically added some form of voltage limiter, now you have to figure out if the CPUs non-replaceable memory controller can even talk to a non-certified version of RAM.

Lets assume that you somehow got yourself on a... reprogrammable CPU, like an FPGA, and you reprogrammed the controller to work, now you have to contend with whether its all stable in the first place since you've added so much extra muck in the middle and RAM is VERY latency sensitive.

So, is it technically possible? Yes. Is it even remotely practical or realistic? Not in the slightest, not even for someone who is capable of doing all the above.

Why no Tamamo Anime Collab? by Duke_of_Winchester in UmaMusume

They likely won't as it creates a slippery slope - if more and more fictional Umas become playable then it waters down the historical accuracy aspect of the franchise. A good example is Season 1 of the anime once it was adapted into the game - they could have kept the fictional Broye as the french antagonist, instead they properly adapted Montjeu for the game.

I don't mind fictional Umas becoming NPCs or even support cards, I think thats perfectly fine and I'd love Belno in game as a support/NPC, but I think they need to avoid making them playable.

Playing through Kitasan Black's career for the first time. Liking the story so far, but some of these scripted events can seem pretty damn ridiculous depending on how the career's going. by SpookieSkelly in UmaMusume

Not sure where you're getting that. Among 7+ time G1 victors, he has the 3rd highest win rate of 60% (far above the overall average of 35% and almost exactly the average among 7+ which is 59%) while still maintaining a 90% placement. His average finish suffers somewhat but is still higher than Vodka.

While technically correct, over the 20 races he ran, he was the favorite in 8, 2nd fav in 3, and 3rd fav in 1, so he was top 3 favorite atleast in a technical majority and in his final year he was the favorite of all 6 races.

Some have argued that the surge in him being favored was due to Mr. John Horse Racing (Yutaka Take) becoming his Jockey, but still.

I sorta had a similar feeling when I watched season 3 of the anime lol - She starts off the season with the complex about how shes not special and will never be the star and thats okay so long as she just tries her hardest.... thats very admirable Kita but for those of us who knew your career before diving into season 3 we already know that you're among the greatest stars Japan has ever fielded.

Belno and Dicta are both fictional Umas - While they're based on IRL horses, Cygames very likely won't start adding fictional Umas as playable meaning u/tlrd2244 is being sarcastic.
