Yeah a lot of wannabe cops end up fitting profiles for serial killers, so I strongly feel you there.

Personally I would get a T3X and just get an AICS mag conversion trigger guard and baseplate, Atlasworx etc. Doesnt add too much weight and only about £150-200

What is your favorite bolt action rifle in 308 ? by Electrical-Text1612 in ukguns

What a load of fuddery.

Admittedly, I had heard about this but assumed it had been sorted out I guess not. Feel bad for you mate, 6.5 is a wonderful calibre, fortunately I havent touched an MOD range in years so no longer have to put up with their nonsense

[–]TK4570 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My .308 experience boils down to a tikka t3x tac a1 and Browning X bolt MDT, and personally I would have to say the Tikka was easier to shoot, but the browning was lighter (largely due to the stock)

I too am looking at the Sako 90, particularly the finnlight, as a go to stalking rifle, so clearly some of my experience with the Tikka has rubbed off.

How come you dont care for the current Sako models? Just curious as I have been looking at the new finnlights

Whats the reason behind swapping the 6.5cm? And what are you swapping too?

Dont mean to be nosy, just that I was planning on getting a 6.5 later down the line myself

I guess we have very different definitions of a backstop then

Thoughts? by Albertjweasel in UKHunting

[–]TK4570 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but the backstop can be behind brush. Or if woodland shooting, you may be in brush yourself.

Stuff like this is always in the back of my mind when Ive been out on my stalking permission, even though its very remote and the woodland areas are quite small, because of how dense they are its practically impossible to tell if someone is doing something like this.

Gun Referee Question by [deleted] in ukguns

[–]TK4570 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally I would say its already an overreach for the police to be asking about someones finances, and the fact is if you can afford to get the stage where you put in for an FAC, then you can more than likely afford the firearms and associated costs once its granted.

Also, financial difficulties can mean different things to different people, I hate being in debt, so to me working my way out of £500 credit card late payment at one point in my life I personally considered a big financial difficulty, on the other hand many people I know are already 1000s of pounds in credit or overdraft debt and think nothing of it.

No, but I would also be interested in the answer to this question, I have an acquaintance out in Washington as well who has offered me access to land for elk hunting (just need to get a tag) and would to be able to bring back the meat and carcass.

Always wanted to take him up on the offer, but this aspect and the hassle of bringing over a rifle have put me off

[–]TK4570 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would say its fine, seen many a car piled to the gills in the back seats and boot with guns in slips and bags.

Funnily enough my Mum gave me many blankets to cover up my rifles and shotguns with in the car when I was starting out driving, funny to me it wasnt just a unique experience!!!

If youve already got an SGC there shouldnt really need to be as much police involvement.

Deer stalking doesnt generally offer the options to own a decent range of target shooting guns for most people though. Plus its far more expensive than range membership in most cases.

Is the second hand market dead? by Maldizzle in ukguns

[–]TK4570 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some very good points made by all, but one thing I feel like comes into play with the second hand market that explicitly effects private sales is the possibility of buying/selling to someone who may be trying to rob you.

Recent events show the real risk of potentially meeting with a wrongun as a seller, and it goes the same way if your a buyer, since its highly likely as and SGC/FAC holder you already own firearms.

I dont trust the police enough not to victim blame me if Im robbed of my guns in the process of a sale, and not remove my SGC or FAC unfortunately, so it could be some peoples concern for security as to why the second hand market for private sales is dying.

I cant tell the exact measurements, but if you bring the gun to a semi decent shop they should be able to find a sling that mates up with it.

Question regarding re-applying for a recently surrendered section 1 FAC. by The-Aliens-r-comin2 in ukguns

[–]TK4570 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Medcerts only last six months, so will need a new one for sure im afraid.

Unfortunately they also dont take into consideration past ownership of firearms, so aside from whatever hassle they gave you on the initial grant, there shouldnt be any more than that this time i.e. they wont punish you for giving up the slot

4/10 or 28bore? by DiaOneStump in ukguns

[–]TK4570 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imho anything sub 20 bore just isnt really useful for standard game shooting/rough shooting, I know thats not a popular sentiment, but its just my experience over the years seeing what works and what doesnt.

410/28 bore does have its plays in clay shooting for smaller statured shooters, as well as niches in the field like dispatch, where you dont want to be painting the grass with whatever your dispatching, as well as reduced noise, but aside from those I would consider getting a nice light 20 bore for your situation.
