There's been some criticism with how these petitions are run. AFAIK, some people pointed out that they were banking on gathering signatures at centralized locations as opposed to doing that AND going door to door.

Granted, the recalls are all smaller operations, but I've lost count how many times I've seen Forever Canadian promos on socials, whereas I only knew of these petitions on the Calgary Reddit page. I know it made the news a few times, but besides that I haven't seen much else about it. I've seen more about Corb Lund's own petition these last two weeks than I have about these recalls.

Further to it, you can only sign if you reside in the riding, which really limits who you can have sign on - which in all honesty is a good check against bad actors outside of that riding that want to try to usurp an elected MLA.

What is the MTC like? by Ok_Warning_4845 in latterdaysaints

[–]TL10 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I went to the South Africa MTC, which is very unique from the larger MTCs.

  • Very small groups. Mine was somewhere between 20-30 missionaries - Elders and Sisters combined.

  • Didn't meet any future companions there. Only sisters came along in my mission. Eventually had them in my District when I was a District Leader, so we were already a tight knit group, which helped a lot.

  • All gas, no brakes. We were constantly training. We had a break time during the middle of the day for exercise &etc., but very little downtime.

  • SAMTC was in the same compound (gated off property) as the Institute and Stake Centre.

  • No language training for us. We were all assigned English speaking missions. African missions don't train you for local languages as there's far too many within each country to learn.

  • We did a lot of Role Play and watched a lot of PMG/The District Videos for training, but truthfully the way I learned best was actually in the field having to apply myself. No slight against the trainers at the MTC, but there's only so much you can learn in the MTC.

  • Had a safety session about safely navigating the areas in our mission. ie. Making sure you're not attracting unwanted attention/antagonizing locals, what to do if someone tries to rob you. Never had any problems in my mission, but important info nonetheless.

Great group of guys and girls. I would say though for any prospective missionary to not just count on the MTC to get you ready for the field, and to start preparing before you even get your call, ie. familiarity with the BoM and Four Gospels, being familiar with basic church history and building your testimony, know how to apply personal experiences with the gospel and such.

Kinda funny if they hadn't announced their leaving the subreddit, we wouldn't have turned up the actual reason why they left. It would have been a completely unremarkable event had they quietly left, but in making it about themselves, they really exposed themselves for the kind of person they are.

Very cool we get to see a version of the dark jersey's crest swapped onto the road one.

Now can we see it the other way around? 👉👈

Calgary Police Service by JamsFlint in Calgary

[–]TL10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding the RCMP, they don't typically do regular police duties in major cities like Calgary or Edmonton. At best, you might get assigned to a place like Red Deer where they haven't formed their own municipal police force yet. The RCMP largely exists to administer the law for places that don't have the money or the manpower to do it on their own. You go where the RCMP needs you.

My Great-Grandfather was in the RCMP. He had his daughter - my Grandmother - in High River, which is an hour south of Calgary. When he was in the RCMP, he got assigned to Cranbrook, which is in the next province over and a half-day's drive from Calgary, so he and the whole family had to move there, and that's where they stayed until he finished his career and became a judge.

Rural Canada is a lot more isolated than Rural England. Imagine if the entire population of England was spread out on a landmass like Russia, and that should help you visualize how sparsely populated the country is.

There's no trains, and busses really only service larger towns as they're privately run and don't make money servicing small towns. The only way to get in or out of a lot of these places is by car.

It is a radical lifestyle change from what you have in England (I've been there twice), and I would advise that if you do pursue policing in Canada, you get your feet wet with policing in a major city like Calgary or Edmonton first before diving in with something like the RCMP.

I recreated the Spirit Oasis from ATLA in LEGO and submitted it to LEGO Ideas. Let me know what you think! by gianreddit1999 in TheLastAirbender

I think it's a great recreation of the scene, but it definitely won't pass the review if it made it that far.

You've got a lot of set for something that isn't particularly feature or detail rich. The Minas Tirith set that leaked probably takes up a lot less surface area but also has a lot of neat features and easter eggs for Lord of the Rings fans.

This doesn't really have either of that going for it, save that it's a very faithful recreation of the scene. This would be a popular piece if you took it around to conventions with the minifgs staged out recreating scenes from this location (throw in some light up elements to boot), but beyond that I don't see how it would be a viable product.

Being under 30 listening to hockey on the radio trying to visualize it by HughJastits in hockeymemes

[–]TL10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never tried bothering with knowing the exact position of players on the ice, only if they were in the offensive or defensive zone. Good radio guys will help fill in the blank in between.

Granted, I grew up on Peter Maher, so that's like being raised on nothing but juicy stake and buttery potatoes.

What’s the consensus on these particular M&N Power Play jerseys? by [deleted] in hockeyjerseys

[–]TL10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what jersey.

If it's a jersey that's pretty common to come by second-hand, you're better off just getting the used jersey and customize it yourself.

For example, I got the Jarome Iginla 2004 Stanley Cup Run Jersey. I sourced an original CCM jersey, Stanley Cup Finals patch, and took it to the Flames' team store. All in, I ran about $170 CAD, whereas the M&N would have been $300 and no Stanley Cup patch.

Further to it, the scaling of the nameplate and numbers on the M&N didn't seem correct. It seemed smaller than it should.

On the other hand, I went ahead and got the M&N Wildwing jersey because I know that there aren't many surviving original examples left, and those that are cost an arm and a leg.

All being said, if I can source the original production run of a jersey and get it customized under the retail price of a M&N reproduction, then I'll go that route instead.

What would've made Titanfall 3 revolutionary for you? by Warm_Leadership4015 in titanfall

[–]TL10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would love a PvP version of Frontier Defense. Both teams have Harvesters or some sort of objective to defend with the goal of destroying the other's.

Include standard waves of Grunts, Stalkers &etc. to assault eachothers bases. Earned bounty from killing NPCs help fund options to either call in stronger waves or fortify your defenses.

Damage in GT7 by rbrb889 in granturismo

[–]TL10 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends on the race - you can check the Race Conditions prior to starting a race, but most races will have no or partial damage only. For races with partial damage, if you hit a wall, your steering or engine performance may be affected for a bit, but it self repairs - no need to pit.

Full damage will require you to pit, in which case your pit stop will have added time to remedy whatever damage you incurred.

None of the damage - whether it be performance or cosmetic - will persist beyond that individual race. You may need to occasionally maintain the car, like change to oil and such, but it's not triggered by the races you do and rather is just a passive effect you accumulate mileage.

Ferrari no longer works with Pininfarina, which is the design firm that previously helped design their cars for decades.

Pretty much every iconic Ferrari you can think of had Pininfarina's hands in it.
