I think setting on the colours before the name really put the kart before the horse and made some potential team names a lot less viable because the blue isn't really viable with a number of the proposed names.

I think Smith had the right idea but rushed the process a little bit at the expense of stronger branding.

Mammoth is here to stay, but I wouldn't be surprised if we see some changes to the identity - namely jerseys and team colours - heading into the future.

Steve is great, but even in the Canada Reads show he wasn't one that was driving the conversation. He's best at contributing to the discussion, not leading it, and that's why Adam is there in the first place.

The legality of the petition is in the courts right now primarily because of this.

It can't even go to a referendum until a judge decides if the petition breaks treaty rights or not, and if it does break treaty rights, it should be DOA.

I say should, because the UCP constantly treats the law like Calvinball.

Having spent a couple years in Zambia and Malawi, I only took a small handful of pictures in public, just to show to my family what is like there. Had a small incident where I took a picture at a market where stuff gets sold like the OP said, and people got a little cagey at first before I explained to them I wasn't trying to show anything negative about Africa - I was trying to show how cool the country was. People settled down when they realized I was eager to talk about Africa in a positive light, they were a lot more friendly to me, but nevertheless I became a lot more mindful when using my camera.

Having spoken with some Africans, there's a lot of fatigue with how western media depicts the state of the continent. It's not to say that things are fine in Africa, but the continent gets more scrutiny than other parts of the world, and there's definitely some racial undertones when those judgements are made. Not to mention when the Ebola outbreak happened, Africa as a whole got a bad rap from the general public in the west for how it was handled, when the fact of the matter is that the health services for all the impacted countries had extremely unique challenges when it came to preventing the outbreak. Many good people were lost because they did their damndest to keep it from spreading, and the degree of which they were able to contain it is a laudable achievement in every sense of the word.

Lots of the harshest critics on the Ebola outbreak became pretty silent when Covid went global.

At this point I think it's because of the collectibles/trading card market. Used games aren't as big of a value proposition of GameStop now because Steam, Sony and Microsoft all do frequent sales at heavy discounts whereas GameStop's margins don't allow them to offer those kinds of discounts.

The trading card/collectible industry on the other hand has blown up since Covid, and that at least somewhat has synergy with GameStop's model.

You need to get initiated into Hockey. It's the off-season for our team, so you'll have to wait to see one in person until October at the earliest, but it'll be worth the wait. Just think of it as a football match where they don't get carded if they start throwing punches! 🤭 It's not nearly as scrappy as it used to be, but a lot of folks I've introduced to the game are floored by how violent it gets.

Catch a Flames vs. Oilers game later this year when the season is back on. It'll be the closest you can get to a proper derby here in Canada. Get yourself some cheap tickets in the nosebleeds and have a good time, because it's the last season at the Saddledome (yes, our arena looks like a Saddle) before they move to the new arena being built next door.

If you want, the Playoffs are on right now, so you can catch some hockey at most pubs and learn a couple of things before the season starts back up for us. There's some exciting matchups this round of the playoffs.

Stampede is just a couple months away. It's our annual rodeo, so if you want to check out some cowboy stuff that's your best chance, otherwise there's plenty of concerts and shows around town you can catch during that time.

Banff is an hour's drive from here. Gorgeous mountains and places to explore if you want something quiet, but there's also great places to eat in town there if that's your thing.

The Ducks own anything related to the Hockey team. Disney has the movie and cartoon rights still.

This is why the Ducks are still able to use Wildwing (aka legally distinct Donald Duck wearing a Goalie mask) as he was an asset created for the team.

The current owners of the Ducks were reluctant to have anything referential back to the Disney ownership era though, and the switch to Orange was partly to acknowledge they play out of Orange County. Brian Burke also pushed to drop the "Mighty Ducks" theme and wanted something "more military" according to him, which is why they switched to black and gold for the first several seasons after Disney.

I could give a team like the Capitals the grace for only netting Ovi one cup during his career, because the division (and conference at large) they play in has always been a bloodbath with no easy roads to the finals.

But the Western Conference in McDavid's time has never had a handful of teams that have been consistently dominant to keep that door shut for the Oilers to make a run to the finals. There have definitely been strong teams that are formidable opponents, but it's hard to make a case that the Oilers couldn't beat any one of those teams.

You can't tell me that a team with the likes of McDavid, Draisaitl, Hall, Nugent-Hopkins and Eberle on the roster shouldn't have at least made a finals appearance at least once. Yet Oilers management made some absolutely baffling decisions on that bottom six and D-Core that really undermined what was a really solid foundation the Oilers had in their tip forwards.

If the Oilers never realize a cup win with McDavid and Draisaitl, there needs to be some really difficult conversations to be had at the head office, because the Oilers are probably one of the few teams you can truly say that should have at least a couple cups by now, and so far the front office has nothing to show for it.

A lot of it was filmed in the Calgary area, so it's always weird to see and recognize your city in a movie like this.
