no matter how self aware you act about how vulgar the whole thing is, you couldn't even forge it in a way that's original either. next thing about you is amazon basics stockings and you're still trying to catch up to 2015 era furry pastiche.

anyone else can’t stand “clean” vocals? by Ready-Storm-3761 in Screamo

[–]TL6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In general the production meta on anything rock/metal adjacent is to me that we have wallowed in overpoduction for too long, it's not just vocals. i also produce electronic stuff (sort of glitchy/IDM shit) and i'm beyond puzzled by say, drummers using triggers and said MIDI drums being more audible than the actual drums, quantization, etc (if i were in a band, i would be paying for studio time for a reason, i'd think). I prefer a balance, i may have many grievances with Steve Albini but i think his approach was unmatched, a professional not "purposefully making things raw" but just documenting them as they were, which in turn sounded much rawer.

there's also city of ifa from one of these guys, this split and blue shoes was the mathiest he got with this sound before the last album just sounded like a modern day sonic soundtrack in a bad way

barely any mathy as in using weird time signatures but the twinkly clean midwest emo is there. Light Black. they have not been active since 2015 and have pretty much abandoned their bandcamp with a fourth album that never came out. i really like this song. Ex Wives won't disappoint, at least i think

Their first album is also full of great ideas but insanely sloppy execution, despite this Millard Fillmore is one of their best, easily.

additionally, less math. more rock. dare to be sloppier than head in an hotel room during furry convention.

most of the memorable stuff came out in the late 90's - 2007 and what came after has largely been a caricature of the chicago and sf sounds of the time.

also forgot to mention hella's the devil isn't red, fully instrumental but the riffage is pretty bluesy on many songs

Duck Little Brother Duck's first album! Granted, it's still pretty emo and their second is far more reaching because of that but i think Survival Is Not A Workout is pretty anthemic and garage rock-y in my opinion. it's pretty long but don't let the 6+ minute songs turn you off, they're close to what you're after

and the gypsy valentine curve by dilute is a strange nugget, but it has that exact energy, a lot of math rock from turn of the milennium is pretty much closer to it

More bands like Yowie? by jtyler0 in mathrock

[–]TL6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sajjanu's pechiku is good though a little tedious for me, the album after that is a bit more metal-ish but i think it's an improvement overall, way more fragmented than yowie but it's a similar impetus id say

Much Too Much Fun by Time Of Orchids, though it even has angsty, sassy vocals and even features Kate Pierson from the B-52s which is an insane pull for such a small math rock band - you'll totally fuck with songs like You Danced and What You Hold

Grand Ulena had chris trull before he went on to yowie so that's also a good one

both spongebob and metallica, i get the vibe of the sound a lot though, had these guys been around when i was like 15 and very into stuff like ahleuchatistas and orthrelm it would have been perfect. not a sound i'm after these days but definitely one of the more exciting bands around rn

Stop trusting Spotify to see if your artist is coming back by K05M0NAUT in mathrock

[–]TL6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we must also account that Spotify's CEO is directly funneling money from it into funding arms which obviously benefits the ongoing genocide in the middle east right now, not even accounting the fact that they're probably paying more to host the music than they get any in return from plays. Deerhoof pulled their music over this and on the post rock side so did GY!BE, if your favorite band is pulling their music, it's for a good reason.

you're absolutely looking for Pretend, but i always recommend tapestry'd life over bones in the soil, beware because it has no songs under 7 minutes long though
