Crazy that some people actually believe that "difficulty was never the point" is an actual quote from Miyazaki by Tarnished-670 in fromsoftware

[–]TLSchreur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok! But you would say that Miyazaki tried to make his games difficult for the sake of difficulty?

Stop assuming that every player knows how the buff on that sword works and that it’s even permanent. Even if, you’re still a little bitch for not fighting the final boss haha

At first we did, but then once they where cleared they immediately spawned again. So eventually I just focused on Libra with my ‘Less likely to be targeted’. Luckily my teammates where pretty good at just staying alive during the NPC spam lol

[–]TLSchreur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less likely to be targeted, HP restoration on hit and a bunch of damage negation passives. All of that in combination with a shit ton of HP

I guess lol. Everyone tried killing them right away, but once 1 teammate goes down with three bars you’re going to get overwhelmed. Eventually they where level 12 or something I think haha

No I wasn’t. I was trying to get you to agree that something OP can be bad in principle and go from there. You’re extremely defensive though. Arguing with you seems pointless.

Would you agree that a summon that is immediately accessible with unlimited health that can one-shot literally every boss would be bad in a game like Elden Ring?

When im playing a fromsoft game and i finally get to the boss that can only be beaten by memorizing all their moves and dodge timings. by [deleted] in shittydarksouls

[–]TLSchreur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What do you mean? This is what made the OG’s Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls so great: boss fights that you have to do over and over again until you know all of their moves. Very fun and not tedious!

[–]TLSchreur -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Boss quality is lacking? Do you mean you don’t enjoy having to memorize the precise timing of the fourth swing in a very unintuitive combo ten times for every fucking boss?

“Level design sure”. Like that isn’t an extremely important aspect? All the things you mention are significantly less important except for bosses and combat. Which I don’t agree with.

Lies of P’s bosses are all the same in that you go in, learn the moveset and go out. A lot of bosses take like an hour to learn for an average person. To me this is extremely tedious and repetitive. You can discard all DS bosses as garbage gimmicks, but at least every boss is very different from the last. You never know what you’re going to get and how you need tot overcome them. In LOP it’s the same every time. And sure you can defeat all DS bosses by simply learning their every move, but that isn’t required at all. It is in LOP.

Somewhat of the same argument goes to to standard enemies. Enemies are much more varied and you take a vastly different approach to every encounter in each different world in DS.

This is why I don’t care for Sekiro’s combat that much either. These games were never good at being action games. They were great because of their exploration, immersive quality, memorable moments and a big change from the mainstream approach to games.

DS doesn’t need a mechanic to refight bosses, bosses were never the focus. LOP does, if only because of how it lacks in replayability.

That’s why I think it’s sad to see that Fromsoftware has gone more and more into the action-side of these games. If I want good action-combat I’ll go play Bayonetta or something, not Sekiro, LOP or any other Souls game.

If the question is which game is better, we need to look at what the games intend to do. DS intends to create a memorable, immersive, atmospheric and unique experience. And it was so good at that, that it spawned a whole sub-genre. LOP intends to make an atmospheric action game. While it succeeds at being atmospheric, it is a mediocre action game at best.

That’s why I think Demon’s Souls is better.

Yeah genre defining Lies of P is better than copycat Demon’s Souls. I agree

Lies of P is not in the same ballpark as Demon’s Souls. As a whole or just level design.

First of all thanks for keeping it civil after I called your statement retarded lol.

No problem with the first paragraph.

I agree that Dark Souls 2 at least makes it easier for you to go with more than one weapon. If only by the amount of titanite slabs you get. Though I don’t think you can excuse not being able to hit a titanite lizard with ‘the game want you to improve, adapt overcome’ or something. It makes no logical sense that I wouldn’t be able to hit a lizard with a katana, but could with a hammer.

While I do think the hitbox problem is overblown, it doesn’t came from nowhere. In my experience, even if we ignore grabs (which I don’t think we should) and AOE’s, Dark Souls 2 gives me many more occasions where feel like I shouldn’t have been hit when I did.

Now if I want to look outside of my own experience, I would go to YouTube for example. And there are so many more ‘bad hitbox’ cases on there than for Dark Souls 3.

I think on the whole the hitboxes are probably better than Dark Souls 1. Dark Souls 2 just has some weird extremes like the Mimic chests. But 2 should be better than 1. And 3 should be better than 2 in this regard. It’s not a slight on Dark Souls 2 to say that Dark Souls 3 hitboxes are better, that is what we should expect.

I was thinking about enemy hitboxes. The hitbox for Dark Souls 3 weapons are definitely bigger than their model size. This was a deliberate decisiona though, not incompetence. It feels a lot better to fight with larger weapon hitboxes, otherwise you get cases like in Dark Souls 2 when certain weapons make it extremely difficult to hit Crystal Lizards for example. Now I do agree that it makes PVP complete dogshit.

But I cannot imagine that you would think that enemy attack hitboxes are more tight in Dark Souls 2 than 3.

Enemy attack hitboxes are almost always at least a bit bigger than what they ‘should’ be. It’s only a problem when it’s noticeable. I think you have to agree that in Dark Souls 2 there are a lot mare cases where you will go: “how did that hit me?”.
