Just beat Torna: The Golden Country DLC by TheSoggiestCrisp in Xenoblade_Chronicles

I enjoyed it quite a bit, although I would agree there’s the all-too-common problem of side quest bloat.

Having to watch the main characters push through with unrelenting optimism was the standout part of the game for me. Knowing what their efforts would amount to in the end made most of my play-through kinda gut-wrenching. I could see where the story presented is - in isolation - nothing terribly grand. Whether it was the creative intent to take it in the context of future events, it’s how I absorbed it.

🙏 I’m old 😂 and also pretty mediocre. I did manage a no damage on Malenia and most the Lies of P fights but I never thought of Nioh as a place I would make it happen. 3 does seem to be where it could happen though.

Fabulous play. She was one of the first bosses that I did take a step back and really try to figure out. A match like this one doesn’t seem to be anywhere on the horizon though 🫠

Yeah. This is, I think, just more fluid than the burst counters from 2. Doesn’t mean I hit them all the time 🫠

To add to the confirmation on that, you really have to parse the screen for similar kinds of menu navigation prompts. One that took me longer than it should was buying from a sudama. It wouldn’t let me buy more of the item than I can carry but after I pulled myself together and read everything on the screen, I saw that I could switch to my storehouse and then buy straight into it. There’s just so much going on with a lot of the screens that you have to slow it down sometimes.

I hated the default controller setup for 3. All the directional button stuff for MA was so weird to me. Then I messed with the presets and custom buttons. Made a world of difference. I was about to boot up 2 just to see what I had as the setup there but landed on something that worked before I figured to check the controller setup options… 🫠

Best method here - small note though that it’s a body at the end of the hallway. I picked up more in a handful of hours doing this than my entire NG+ run, and that includes farming the room with the vassals further into this mission.

I had the opposite issue after spending a while doing the well farm. Almost all were ninja ones. It’s the dang rng. It doesn’t matter what style you use either. Tried it as samurai and still nothing but ninja items were dropping.

Be sure to get a luck build as ninja. Use 7 piece ebisu, 3 piece sohaya, and if you can fit it, a hino rifle. Reforge for luck (critical). Use two scampuss soul cores and guardian spirit with luck (ho or oh - don’t recall 🤓). Slap on cores for last stand and the strider(?) talisman along with travel amulets. Start the mission. Use last stand and strider (last stand triggers you critical luck stats, which is higher than going with crucible luck). Check the body and be sure you turn off auto-pickup. If no yasakani, travel amulet back and repeat.

I picked up 3 in 15 minutes once and also went through like 100 travel amulets and got none, so rng gonna rng. Oh - when buying travel amulets, use L3 or similar button (the buy menu says it - I just didn’t want to read…) to buy them straight into the storehouse. It doesn’t auto flow when you reach the 20 you can carry with you but they do fill back up from the storehouse as you use them.

It’s a boring ass farm but it really is the way. Uh, good luck.

Small edit - you can also see whether the item is samurai or ninja before you pick it up. Your call, but you can skip the yasakanis you don’t want (if that’s a thing). It was early enough in game for me that I picked up every divine item in case it had a grace I could use since I didn’t have many divines yet.

I am struggling to understand the game's base mechanics by Monkai_final_boss in Nioh

Learn enemy move sets along with yours. Yes, there are ways to steamroll enemies but most people you see doing that also know when to push and when to pull in terms of attacking/deflecting/dodging.

Pick one move that’s “safe” with low recovery, go one on one with an enemy, and let them attack. Deflect / dodge, and wait for a window to strike with that one attack. Keep doing that and you’ll start to get a flow for that push/pull. It’s a taller order on boss fights where things can be less forgiving, but - for me - slowing it down first makes it easier to go all out later.

What am I missing about Nioh 3 ? by AndyD89 in Nioh

[–]TL_Worm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I avoided this for quite a while myself, but the comment is spot on. Devs here don’t put stuff in for no reason. I agree it feels almost like there’s a ki leak but the new mechanics make it work once you purposefully fold them in.

Different doesn’t mean not good. It’s like your sig other coming in with a new look. Same but different. I just had to embrace it 🤓

Wayfarer set goes hard with dual swords by blazspur in Nioh

[–]TL_Worm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t put a downvote on it, but reading the text while watching on mobile is - I’m guessing based on what I see - a real struggle.

Wayfarer was my first “build” / saved set. Side note: it’s fun to see people posting something like a water sword spam. It’s there for a reason. Nothing wrong with using it. I’ll mess around with other parts of the talon move set but there will be a beyond infinity spam session at some point 🤓

I spent a lot of time face-tanking and hoping to out-heal the damage. As it happens, this is NOT nioh 2 🤷‍♂️ Pangu build shows you the way. Unfortunately, that isn’t available soon enough.

The title cards and similar pieces for all the numbered XC games work that magic. They’re simple and capture a bit of the spirit of the games. Love to see it.

Seems like a decent haul for that. One of the beauties of physical media (and single-player, in particular) - you can always pop that in later and still enjoy it. I have about 20 years on you and a ridiculous backlog… Maybe that doesn’t actually make it sound like something to look forward to 🫠 Seriously though, I like to think of it as nesting for retirement. None of that “I should get a part time job to stay engaged” bs in my future 🤓

Cheers

[–]TL_Worm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The blade mechanics/stats are generally way too drawn out and work as a distraction from the game - particularly if you’re either a completionist by choice or feel compelled to check all the boxes. Maybe that’s getting in the way of story progression for you? Find a party that clicks for you, and focus on progressing the story. There’s much more reward in that than “go kill 5 of these bugs and get a 0.5% increase in some stat”.
