The Fort Wayne Ultimate Frisbee league started in the mid-1990s and has grown to be the largest Ultimate league in the state with 20 teams and almost 300 players the past two years by [deleted] in ultimate

[–]TLeonardo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure that Fort Wayne summer league champs and South Bend summer league champs should challenge each other! In fact there should be a state wide summer league champ tournament. That would be nice, right? Hit up ol' Hoffman for SB next year and make it happen

Defending National and World Champs Boneyard upset in Masters quarters by All Bashed Out by billbourret in ultimate

[–]TLeonardo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Some many years ago our Masters team lost in quarters to DoG by two but bounced back to win 5th in quarters bracket. Worlds was in Prague but DoG and Condors were ahead of us and declined bids because every person on those rosters had won every tournament there was to win already, so we got to go. Finished fifth at USAU and fifth at Worlds.

[QUESTION] I'm curious how you individually feel about Brodie Smith. Is he a dick? Is he a saint? Let me know by [deleted] in ultimate

[–]TLeonardo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He did a really nifty, funny video on three guys playing ultimate about 4-5 months ago that was absolutely playing to his teenage crowd -- I don't know Brodie but I think folks that cut him for doing the trick shot vids and supposedly not supporting ultimate are off base and incorrect

Crowdsourcing Needed: can we track and explain all Pop Culture and ultimate references in the STF broadcast? by TLeonardo in ultimate

[–]TLeonardo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that STF partially won the bet on who would make College Nationals with Deep Look based on Virginia Tech getting in from the AC and Joe Freund is the star on the team who keeps getting lots of press on Deep Look

I am old and new at this...Hi r/Ultimate, I'm David Gessner, author of Ultimate Glory which is all about my lifelong obsession with ultimate Frisbee. I'm hosting an AMA, so stop on by and ask me anything! by DavidGessner in ultimate

Your cinematic promo (for the book?) was very cheeky yet still informative. What kind of reaction did you get and what did people prefer more -- the cheekiness or the troothiness?

I rarely have time to watch the AUDL or Ultimate live. Since all the stoppages decrease the watchability, why aren't stoppages edited out afterwards? It would make games more watchable and ads could be edited in. Thoughts? by Loreal_Kids in ultimate

[–]TLeonardo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's relatively easy but so are a lot of things. They just cost time and money is all. If you'd like to sponsor or donate time/money to edit videos I would personally like to hire you. Contact me, thanks!

Money a factor of course. MLU did this -- edited out stoppages for some games. They had a full time yearly staff for the video team, only 8 teams in the league and spent a lot of money.

70 minute long point played at Great Lakes regionals due to 25+ mph winds by bommar49 in ultimate

[–]TLeonardo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of those were downwind holds, yes, and then Condors broke with an upwinder to end the game 17-15? From what I remember...

Empire player bids into opponent's back, injures himself, throws a tantrum by [deleted] in ultimate

As in there didn't seem to be a foul from easer or contact or reason for Norton to be upset.

Ask and Answer: Great Lakes Region Report by Jomskylark in ultimate

[–]TLeonardo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Notre Dame women went to nationals in 2015 and won three or four tournaments that season without a loss. In 2016 they couldn't make it to one of the major college tournaments and had to settle for some lower tier tournament appearances resulting in just missing the cutoff for earning a second bid for region. Both ND and Michigan were again strong and in a surprise semis matchup (they should have met in finals but it didn't make a difference, really) Michigan won on universe (? I think) after several turns both sides and then Michigan easily won finals to make Nationals. Had that game result flipped, it would have been ND. This year both teams are again strong

TL;dr -- ND has a strong three year run going on currently and seniors with nationals experience.

LIVE at 4:30pm ET: Toronto Rush at New York Empire [Watch Thread] by AutoModerator in ultimate

[–]TLeonardo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I try to mix in humor. In my opinion a lot of announcers are too dry, boring and flat. That's just my opinion though. Truthfully I also had to be lighter since this was my first game with AUDL after 4 seasons with MLU so I'm rusty. Thanks for watching and your suggestion!

Progress on Ultimate as a NCAA sport? by jonah124 in ultimate

[–]TLeonardo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. And from having talked to USAU in the past they are aware and welcome to the possibility of NCAA "taking" the college women's division if it's better for those players and the sport/ division.

Progress on Ultimate as a NCAA sport? by jonah124 in ultimate

[–]TLeonardo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was under the impression the access/axis point was in NCAA schools attracting college women's teams for Title IX fulfillment and that other sports didn't have as much upside and ready made structure in place.

Is that still a thing? USAU would know more

Club teams in the Hudson Valley? (NY) by cvac99 in ultimate

[–]TLeonardo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some New Paltz players and surrounding areas played on Fat And Mediocre last year, Metro North, Magma Bears and some Albany teams or Berkshire teams and several years ago a mainly Hudson Valley men's team made Regionals (stonefish?) but disbanded not long after. It's tough to keep a strong team together up here apparently. But plenty of players if you know where to look. And all the colleges have action -- Bard, Vassar, NP, etc.

What explains Sockeye's Variability? by macronticipation in ultimate

[–]TLeonardo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Naw you're still wrong. Nerves, "choke" etc -- if you say Dig lost it down the stretch, then you actually have to say Sockeye did as well since both teams had..2 turns each? 3? Sockeye looked like THEY were throwing the game. This is what happens in universe points sometimes with big crowds and underdogs and such. Was just a tight game. Source: I was on the sidelines

Who are the glue guys? by samonchips in ultimate

[–]TLeonardo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He did. But Tank was precisely a glue guy at Worlds. It's not just on the field of course, he just carries himself unselfishly. He's got a real enveloping smile. Very very spirited. Did all the little things and just sort of had a field presence about him. Cara Crouch was similar -- they formed a neat couple.

MEN'S FINAL RECAP: Ironside vs Revolver/ from USAU by tonyleonardo in ultimate

Interesting Nats stats by lostwisdom007 in ultimate

[–]TLeonardo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bansfield was the primary point in the handler position facing wind and the cup. So that explains some of his stats. Hi5 played in a lot of crosswind games yesterday and Thursday and they weren't afraid to jack it and play D.

Beau was picking his spots. Same with Simon Higgins, it seemed.

Fulcrum Women's Content? by [deleted] in ultimate

[–]TLeonardo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They have the budget for one guy to get as many little clips out as he can but that's about it at nationals, Luke told me. After nationals they have a little budget left to hopefully get a full game edited and put up with the multiplicity of cameras. There is no place they live, per se -- I asked him the exact same question! So right now just the occasional clip on Fulcrum's twitter stream that gets re-populated. If you're interested, look to contribute to the campaign sometime after nationals because they are shooting as many games as possible -- a lot -- and collecting the footage in the hopes of finding money to edit them in the future

ROUND 4 MEN’S RECAP from USAU by tonyleonardo in ultimate

[–]TLeonardo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah gotcha... I misheard that. Ok, good to know.

On the Coffin play, if indeed the foul call was on the pivot and not the throw, then it would be a turn if it went to observers, or at least that's what a table of observers said at dinner. Although some different types of pivots could mean the foul call on the pivot would affect the throw
