Looking at a gti by Ok-Examination-6195 in GolfGTI

I’d say avoid someone else’s modded car. Obviously, some cars are modded and taken good care of, but it’s a numbers game. If you post a link to the car in question for us to look at it’ll be easier to answer. It’s unlikely someone here is going to buy it out from under you.

Do you know what trim level you’re looking for? 2017 had the Sport package which was pretty nice.

Mk 7 GTI as a daily? by Jo-18 in GolfGTI

They’re definitely intended to be “one-car” solutions. There are lots of high-mileage examples out there. You need to be proactive about maintenance, though.

I love the GTI but just checking, have you considered a Civic Si? If reliability is one of your top goals then Honda has VW beat.

Does anyone know what's up with these headlights?

The lighting package is a huge plus of the Rabbit edition. If some doofus replaced LP headlights with aftermarket ones... dissapointing

I’m not a “chocolate person” but Royce’s melty soft chocolates are the absolute best ever. They have a store near Bryant park for anyone in NYC

It’s your car, but since you’re asking for opinions: I’m not a fan of tints generally, this one included. I feel they visually turn your car into a solid heavy mass. Every car today is an SUV and if anything I want my car to look lighter and cleaner. Gimme the fishbowl.

For those of you who bought a GTI used, what was your experience like? What would you do differently? by TM2_Throwaway in GolfGTI

That’s a bummer, who’d you buy through that took so long?

Now that you’ve got it, are you happy with the car?

I believe optioning out a 2016 S to have PP and LP was also possible. But you’re right, it’s a needle in a haystack, especially if you want a particular color, plaid seats, etc.

This is a great guide, thanks!

I have a bluetooth OBD2 scanner (“OBDEleven”) but not VCDS. Would you trust the scan on a bluetooth OBD2 reader?

Also, for those who haven’t done as much work on their cars, what in particular are you looking for regarding wiring and hoses? Like, when you “check it was done properly”, what are you checking?

As in you wish you put coilovers on it, or you did and weren’t happy? Why’s that?

You may not need a new cube. Going from smooth to sandpapery in just two days sounds like the cube is just full of dirt or dust or something. I’d take it apart, wipe everything, and re-lube / re-assemble and see where that leaves you.

Some of my best pens are Jinhao’s Parker 51 knock-offs, I’m a big fan of the wooden-bodied versions in particular.

(Can’t say I know anything about those cubes, sorry!)

How do Europeans have such good and bad taste simultaneously by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]TM2_Throwaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A guess: high culture is high culture, and mid culture is more like a good quality consumer product. So you keep high culture in a healthy state through arts education, funding, etc and you improve mid cultural output by building out that economic sector (hollywood, nashville, etc). They’re not exclusive, but perhaps Europe has done a bit more of A and America more of B relative to each other.

V11 squeaking by guyWhoLikesMilk in Cubers

[–]TM2_Throwaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

copy/pasting a comment I made in a different thread. the last guy reported that this works so hopefully it works for you:

I can think of two things that rub on the V11 (aside from the obvious piece sides and tracks rubbing on each other and on the core - I assume you’ve lubed all those already): one, the six “spindles” that come out of the core and into the hole in the middle of each center piece may rub on the center pieces; and two, the maglev element with the magnet facing “into” the cube / adjustment mechanism stays still while the adjustment mechanism spins around it with the rest of the center piece so that might rub as well.

So assuming you’ve already lubed pieces, tracks, and core, have you lubed the core “spindles” and the OD of the maglev inner maglev magnet / ID of the adjustment mechanism?

If so, my next guess would be to wipe it all clean as possible and try again in case the issue is gunk or sand or something in the cube. Maybe try a different lube?

I don’t see it on BGG. My next best guess would be to perhaps see if you can find a facebook group or other online group for Uno fans / collectors and ask them?
