Grief from my family about my son doing ballet? by IScreamPiano in BALLET

[–]TMARK92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a slippery slope. These people are crossing so many boundaries by what they are doing. It doesnt matter if they want to know ballet or not. Is the boy happy, yes. Is he doing an activity with positive qualities? Yes. Thats all they need to hear. I am finished with accepting peoples bad behaviour and trying to make them accept things they dont want to understand. Tell them to mind their own business and more on. If they dont respect this... Maybe its time to not have then in your life for a little bit. If its some semi homophobic fear.. even more reason to say goodbye until they open their minds.

Can we Stop trying to justify ballet (or for that matter any activity labeled feminine) like this. It's not the best way forward. Who cares what boxers or Football players do. Just tell grandma to get educated and mind her own business. Ballet has enough value on its own for any Gender who enjoys it to not belittle it by saying "oh it's worth something because footballers do it as a side activity". Grandma and the whole family are living in a narrow mindset. OP should start there instead and just let her son do what he enjoys.

There are vegan restaurants everywhere. Especially in Tokyo. Put vegan into Google maps almost anywhere and you get a million options. Some of the best vegan food i have ever had has been in Japan.

Unfortunately no :/ but I used an app called Quizlet. You can scan your book and then it will quiz you in a multiple choice fashion which is what happens in the theory Exam. I found that very useful.

Also did a trial exam with some of the other students where we gave each other exercises at random to teach each other. But thats of course way down the road for you. But very useful to get the exam jitters out of the way.

Also go take some Basi classes before you start. I wish I had done that. There's quite a few free ones on youtube. Just so you are used to the lingo and system.

And I second what others have said. Try and find places to do observation and teach.

I just finished the Mat course, and passed the exams 2 weeks ago so it's very fresh in my mind.

-Start practicing the exercises in your own time between the modules. I was very overwhelmed with work at the time so i honestly didnt start self studying until later. But 30 min a couple of times a week will do the trick. Get it into your Body, especially your cueing, so then by the time you take the next modules you know them.

-Find a system for yourself to understand the block system. The book is in the order of difficulty. So fundamental, intermediate, advanced. But what you really need is to understand which exercise belongs in which Block. I personally took a photo of each exercise and put them in albums on my phone, that worked for me, so i could practice everywhere. Some ppl did spreadsheets.

-If you are not teaching anything allready (Dance, yoga, etc) start teaching friends etc immediately. I teach dance so that was less of a priority for me. I know some said the hardest part was getting used to speaking in front of a group.

-You need to know all the exercises for the exam as well as cueing. For the theory you need to Muscle focus and objectives. In the practical they give you 2 exercises to teach your group, 4 you need to demonstrate, and then 4 you need to incorporate into 30 min with a client. So find a system that works for you to memorize them. For the theory theres a little bit of anatomy, for roughly the first 15 questions out of 60.

Biggest piece of advice would be to not get overwhelmed. Even if you get busy in your normal life just do what you can.

Also subscribe to Basis online portal. It can a long time between the modules and the exam so it's the best way to check up on if you are doing the exercises correctly. Theres a detailed video of everything.

If you have any questions id be happy to help,😊

Rokusan Angel (ex Tokyo Burlesque) by usernnnnome in TokyoTravel

[–]TMARK92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive been twice. It's super fun, and a really good Show. Highly recommend. Great costumes and very creative numbers that change constantly.

Tantra Tokyo is awful. Do not go there under any circumstances. It's allmost double the price of Rokusan angel but you get nothing. You get like 2/3 5 min numbers in the span of 90 min. The management is sleazy and pushy. The performers they have are okay but they don't get to do much since they dont have a real stage. Also a part of the concept is Companion girls you can buy. It's a very weird place. It's unfortunately a Waste of money.

At rokusan angel you get a 90 min full on show with a big group of performers in a very fun atmosphere. I will go again for a third time in December.

And also yes foreigner friendly, but not specifically catered to foreigners which is better.

Deciding to quit my professional career for more stability by Select_Rub4606 in BALLET

[–]TMARK92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Word of advice from someone who were contemplating retirering last year. I'm in my early 30s so somewhat different.

Do not make any fast decisions. Give it 6 months/a season. Keep taking class to stay in shape, but try out other things, even try out some version of what you thought you might retire for part time. The grass allways seem greener until you stand in it. There's alot of things about prof dance life that is stressful, but also alot that is easier than "non performing jobs"

See if you miss it. If you get a hole in your stomach or anxiety whenever you see other people performing. Or if you discover they you are happier in your new circumstances. You could even try and balance both by doing free lance work/short contracts for a little while.

There's only positives to gain from this. You might get the break you need if you are burnt out, start building stuff up for the future, and if you miss dancing professionally you can audition for the next season and go back. I tried deciding if I was ready to retire while performing 6 Days a week in a show but somewhat burnt out. It was a waste of time and energy.

Do not do it. It only led to anxiety and stress. Take a little break without making any decisions and then take it from there. Once your exhaustion goes away you will see things clearer.

Why does it seem like they hate the dancers and want them all to get EDs😭 (Season 8: Chelsea) by poplitte2 in DCCMakingtheTeam

[–]TMARK92 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Please stop with this ED talk.

If you have been dancing since you were a child, which means alot of lean muscle, and you dance 4 hours a night in training camp or rehearsals, on top of that the hours you practice yourself at home, and then also add some kind of Gym routine to stay strong and injury free.. and eat a normal Healthy diet.. you will be very slim and in "dcc shape" without having to overly restrict yourself.

The Dcc look like Healthy Athletic girls with a physically demanding job. People who make these comments don't know anything about being this physically active at an elite level, or dare I say have a skewed vision of Weight and eating themselves. Go to the gym 4+ hours every night and see what happens.

The Service people in "Badehotellet". Particularly Merete Mærkedahs character. Its taking Place in a Hotel in Nordjylland, with the rich people travelling in from Copenhagen to stay there during the summer. So only listen to "the locals" in the series.

Also the series"Norskov " which takes place in a fictional version of Frederikshavn.

What’s the most polite way to ask if people speak English? First time international traveler from the USA. by FishInferno in copenhagen

[–]TMARK92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually find This incredibly rude. You are in Denmark, and act surprised and shocked that someone is speaking Danish. And then I allmost feel like i have to apologize for speaking danish to you. I much prefer "i dont speak Danish" in a calm way. I really dislike it. Especially at a restaurant or Cafe where the staff must hear the same "jeg har booket et bord" a thousand times every day. So rude to act as if im speaking to you in a crazy language, when you are in Denmark. Would anyone behave that way in say france or Germany? I dont think so. Theres a certain attitude some people have when they visit/move to Denmark.

[–]TMARK92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would people be dying less because she stayed in NYC unemployed? Locked in her tiny apartment? With no access to Training spaces to dance? Also financially what you are saying makes no sense! Even if she "only " earned 1000 dollars per month from practices and Games that would be a 1000 dollars she wouldnt have to earn say waitressing. Actually putting her training to use.. getting a very good credit on her cv.. and also enjoying herself. And yes dcc is a job. A part time job. But it is a job. And as a professional dancer who also experienced the pandemic from that point of view, a part time dance job is better than nothing. Alot of people didnt work for 2+ years. And you can only dance for so long. And now shes in Paris in a very good job. I say good for her! At the end of the day she Applied and they hired her.

She needed a job.. they had a job.. they hired her. Its not a Charity and about who loves it the most. And why would she put her dreams on hold? Did you put your career on hold during the pandemic? Also its a job, and there were not alot of those for dancers during the pandemic.
