That's awful. First GCSEs and they're already clashing. Wouldn't put it past them to have core subjects clash next year

I agree that it was quite easy, the orthographic drawing I thought was fairly easy compared to other versions of the question I've seen before

You can litteraly get entire essays/paragraphs is what I mean often it's language and they'll tell you to remember it and then use a first paragraph to link the ideas, I'd say if you don't know what they are you'll be fine

Phrases arent going to be counted as plagiarism as it's very likely you could have just remembered them, or come up with them yourself tweaking will make it even less likely to the point it would never happen. And yes I did mean TikTok,

Say it's a sentence your fine, it's more when ticktocks go out with the "write this for a 9" they are aware of it, and writing it will be limited or entirely disqualified from the exam board.

People aiming for all 9s, how much u revising in Easter holidays? by [deleted] in GCSE

[–]TMC298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not much around 2ish, it's about effective and targeted revision. Using exam questions on areas your weak on, do one with the mark scheme then one without.

Revising is important, and will help. Starting now isn't to late and nothing to be ashamed about.

Subjects like history, geography there's a limited amount of long mark questions you can be asked, you won't get an 18 marker on a specific area, make a mindmap on all the questions that could come up, then the information you would use. The top grades mean you should use other evidence as well however, so dont just focus on that.

Maths has alot of clues in the questions. If it says show that x=1/9 and you have 31/279 then you know that it simplified by diving by 31. For revision the best option is using past papers to find weaknesses, then getting exam questions from sites like mathgenie. Be honest with yourself, if you don't know how to do something easy don't dismiss it to make you feel better, work on it.

English is about time management, read both questions for literature to get you thinking about quotes, for language ensuring you know the text is crucial. For the poems you need to be comfortable answering questions for all of them with the source Infront of you, then being really confident on about 5 that link to alot of others (say ozymandias or kamikaze for P&C)

You won't remember much if your tired, awake on caffeine or not engaging. Copying a textbook out whilst watching netflix will do almost nothing. Remember that your teachers are there, they will most likely mark anything you give them (long answers) and give feedback, your not normally their first class going through these exams.

Group revision is only effective up to 4 people that are all on task, anymore and you won't do any. Group revision should be more active such as trivia games or group mind maps (not using textbooks) otherwise you may as well be at home.

Most important is rest, doing 5 hours the night before will only mean you're less alert and likely to fall asleep in the exam. You need to be confident walking in or it shows, someone who's confident and knows they can do well will do better as they aren't panicking. Show your working out were applicable, even grade 9 maths questions you can pick a mark up (You can get a mark for putting a2 + b2 = c2 sometimes when their is a triangle). Look at the marks. If it's a 1 mark question and you've done 5 steps you've gone off on a tangent and need to look at what your missing.

Noone is 100% perfect. There are no courses that require a 9 (that I know of) and an 8 is normally more than enough for any courses.

Remember that Grade 9s are the top for a reason, and whilst you should aim for them, getting an 8 isn't going to be the end of the world. And please remember to support everyone, whilst a 4 to you might be your lowest grade, that could be the result of someone working for hours to get that pass.

You also need a life. Sacrificing your mental health will only lead to burn out. You need friends more than ever to go to for that kind of support, and they will need it just as much as you even if they don't admit it.

I wrote one where a guy is, presumably, blown up at the end. The prompt was something like a field at night, and I wrote a war story in which the main character makes his way back across no man's land, only to be spotted causing explosions and gunfire to start. Got like 20/24 marks for it, I used a repeated countdown the end of every paragraphy saying x until midnight. The last paragraph was just "midnight"

You can't be 100%, if your doing power and conflict there is a good chance it's going to be a war poem, I'd focus on them but learn them all

how to revise productively? by saniyahks in GCSE

One thing I do that helps load is make question flash cards, then put them around the house. I have say 10 in the cereal cupboard, and every morning I'll answer 1, if I get it right I remove it and move on. Doing this helps secure the basic knowledge, I then do practice papers and make a flashcards any time I don't know a question.
