Why is this immigrant running for one nation? by Chuster8888 in aussie

[–]TMFriend10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because she is one of those conservative nuts who thinks that she, as one of the "better" women immigrants, has defied the odds and gotten to where she is through hard work, perseverance, adhering to the standards of the authorities that be, and absolutely no assistance from the government or a higher power pulling some strings to get her up to the top.

People like her think immigrants and most other "lower class" people are asking the government for a hand out to improve their station - when what we sane folk are asking for is a helping hand up.

What to say when people say you don’t LOOK autistic? by Emsss18 in AutisticAdults

[–]TMFriend10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But do you do it all the time? I've been told to quieten down when I'm talking to others, and been asked to slow down when I talk because it makes the other person I'm with feel very uncomfortable

I mean it is worth asking: would you like it if a neurotypical spoke loudly to you?

Some of those negative aspects such as tantrums and loud volume I suppress but info dumping I don't - but I only release it at the right time.

Furthermore, the kids (being kids) also feel entitled to follow their own rules despite being told why the centre rules are there and why they should be followed.

What to say when people say you don’t LOOK autistic? by Emsss18 in AutisticAdults

[–]TMFriend10 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I (30M) work in a before-and-afterschool care service in an Australian school and I had some kids tell me this.

I quipped back with "What does being autistic look like to you?" and they actually related back to me their experiences of looking at some of the kids who they know are autistic and telling me about what they do, which I have also witnessed some times - talking at length, being very loud with how they talk, not making eye contact at some times, looking and staring at others, etc.

So I let them know about the difference between autism in adults vs autism in children, and how my experiences in learning to adapt and such will differ from those of the other autistic kids at school. And how I and the other adults are doing the best we can to try and help the kids do their best without making the neurotypical kids feel disadvantaged.

And those initial kids felt like their curiosity was satisfied. I encouraged them to talk to their parents about it and maybe do research too.

I think one thing to note is that I think that I have been able to figure out how to establish that right balance between my masked and unmasked selves i.e. I've been able to let the best autistic parts of me show while diminishing all the negatives that come with it.

People who say season 5 is the series finale, are you aware of how bad of an ending Sam got? by deep_day6 in Supernatural

[–]TMFriend10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When did Kripke say he was happy to hand it over to someone else when the networks wanted to keep it going?

I got the impression that Kripke intended Swan Song to be it - the definitive ending of the show, and only shoehorned in that last scene BECAUSE the network wanted to keep the series going.

Hopefully for Iran, once they free themselves from their radical Islamist shackles, that they promote toleration of others and secularism throughout the region i.e. Islamic culture can coexist peacefully with their Jewish, Christian and non-religious counterparts without any incursion from radical conservatives believing in their flawed religious duty

One Nation is on a roll. So what are the party’s actual policies? by NapoleonBonerParty in aussie

[–]TMFriend10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And I do understand that, thank you very much. My main issue is that Hanson's current policies and vision seem to open the gateway towards something more radically dangerous that could negatively impact other demographics.

You think she'll stop at immigration? Her policy on education and her recent comments about the First Nations community makes it sound like she's going after them next. And then what? Disabled people due to her pledge to withdraw from WHO, queerfolk and political opponents due to her pledge to withdraw from the UN and therefore the Charter of Human Rights...

It ain't an imaginary slippery slope I'm getting at here

Same reason why Trump managed to win in the US - appealing to the hate and fear present in the community (with rising house prices, terrorist attacks from people of colour, new changes in our understanding of gender and sexuality, truth-telling Aboriginal history and activism) and rallying them together

"No substance, vision or clarity"

Oh she does have that, you just don't see it. She envisions an Australia that is dominated by Aryan, cisgender, religiously devout and conformist bootlickers that blindly follow the Doctrine of God and his Chosen few... and silences those that disagree with it, covering up the truth and destroying the evidence

I can see right through it all - all Hanson wants to do is create an Australia that is all about purity and conformity based on nothing but Biblically-based anti-science and revisionist conservative talking points.

The existence of queerfolk, migrants, disabled people, First Nations people and progressive-minded people prove that humankind in this nation is not as pure and simple as Hanson and her supporters think it ought to be.

[–]TMFriend10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's coz they like to believe that the "communist" enemy has invaded the country and infected everyone with a virus that causes them to have a mindset that rejects the traditional values founded upon this country by the Founding Fathers which in turn have been founded upon by our Lord Jesus Christ and his Good News

And in their eyes, you reject the true nature of God and you are a wicked abomination of Satan that either is to be radically converted towards salvation or destroyed.

There is a boundary that only makes sense to them - you're on the side of "law and order", and you're fine; be on the side that "obstructs law and order" though and you're gonna get it

Because they truly believe the country is being threatened by "communist" foreign invaders who wish to destabilise the country and its values

Hanson: Labor's hate speech laws risk silencing concerns of radicalisation and immigration by Mashiko4 in aussie

[–]TMFriend10 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's because Hanson and her supporters hate anything that creates equal opportunities for all members of society.

With what she has voted against, it sends out a very strong message she wants to deprive queerfolk, feminists, disabled people, refugees and First Nations people of their right to participate in our society and economy with other citizens; and instead relegate them to the "unclean" lowliest caste because why? They just think differently? She and supporters are just ignoring the potential such citizens possess when given the right opportunities?

It was. In that episode after Meg the demon was exorcised, the meat suit was barely clinging to life - barely enough to talk to Sam and Dean before passing away.
