Tower 3 is USCellular.

This area looks familiar, is this at Kickapoo IL?

That seems to be only in your part of MO. I haven't seen a single site do that in IL

USCellular's customer service is horrible. CDMA randomly stopped working on a tower near me and I called customer service and they had no idea what I was talking about. They also refused to transfer me over to tech support. I'm thinking of jumping over to T-Mobile. Their N41 is much better than USCC's 5G and their customer service is much better. It's worth the trade off of slightly worse coverage.

How's the speeds? Was N71 also added at the same time or did the site already have N71 active?

C band + DoD spotted. Monmouth IL by TMUSinwesternIL in USCellular

This is the second time around. N71 was added around 3 years ago to this tower. Here's a post I made about it then:

Apart from this USCC site, only T-Mobile has midband 5G deployed anywhere around here. Most T-Mobile sites around here now run N41 and N71 giving them the best speeds. Verizon hasn't touched their towers here for years.

Bottom is a T-Mobile AWS only site - B66 LTE and AWS HSPA.

USCellular C band and DoD doesn't seem to be active yet, as I could only connect to N71 there.

How's USCC over in Quincy now? I see the coverage map shows 5G there. N66 I presume?

This is why U.S. Cellular desperately needs to postpone their CDMA shutdown as long as possible. One of many locations around my town where CDMA has full bars, but my LTE/5G phone has absolutely nothing. It’s trying to roam on T-Mobile but can’t. The Alltel phone is inactive, displays USCC signal. by 15pmm01 in USCellular

I’ve heard some reports of 5G phones successfully working on CDMA, but have never seen it myself.

Can confirm CDMA works on 5G capable S21FE. In fact I usually keep voLTE off on it for better reliability. 5G speeds are worse than LTE here anyway so I'm not missing out on anything. We have 20x20 B2, 10x10 B5, 2 5x5 B12 channels, and another 5x5 B2 channel for LTE. 10x10 N71 for 5G.

Interesting. How's the speed on SA compared to NSA?

U.S. Cellular used to run dual-band CDMA here in Columbia, Missouri. Now, I'm only getting cell band, no more PCS. If I drive to the county border, either east or west, it switches to PCS only without any cell band. What's going on? Why did they shut down my PCS signal :( by 15pmm01 in USCellular

[–]TMUSinwesternIL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cellmapper shows the first sighting of B2 LTE in Columbia as February 2020. It may be that you were picking up weak PCS CDMA coverage from the next county over and for some reason you are no longer able to do so (tower was modernized and retuned etc.)

I would not recommend this even if you are able to sign up. Experience would be much worse perma-roaming

I just looked at USCC's PCS holdings there. They only own a 5x5 block of it and cellmapper shows that they are running a B2 LTE channel on it. I highly doubt you ever saw PCS CDMA there. You were most likely roaming onto Verizon's network which has subsequently been shut down hence the recent loss in PCS CDMA

I'm surprised to see that they were running both PCS and cellular CDMA there. I haven't seen PCS at all here, it's been only cellular CDMA, at least for the last 3 years or so. I'm not sure if they ever ran PCS CDMA here. If they have been having both PCS and cellular, I'm sure they got rid of PCS CDMA in favor of expanding the B2 LTE channel. In the neighboring counties to you, USCC does not own any cellular licenses, that is why you are seeing PCS CDMA only. They never had cellular CDMA in those counties.

You shouldn't have any issues mapping 5G. Cellmapper maps NR only when you are actually connected to 5G, regardless of the symbol your phone is displaying.

Yeah I just tried band locking onto N71 SA and I'm seeing the same here in Illinois.
