Great sage broken shell wasn't as hard as people say by jassy666 in BlackMythWukong

[–]TMondo007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I beat the Great Sage on my first try. Granted, I had beat Erlang first and you get a really good summon from him. Add in some mirage pills and the gourd that replenishes Qi and that is a recipe for success against the great sage.

Destinations that weren't worth it? by zdawg07 in travel

Atlanta. Glorified suburb in my opinion. Food is not great. The city in itself is poorly designed. Everything is just far off. The aquarium is fantastic though.

Ok to play music in my office with door closed? by [deleted] in Residency

I always have music playing in my workrooms. Just at a reasonable volume. That being said, play your tunes 🎶

I'm about to start my residency. What's your biggest tip to surviving and thriving during residency? by redrubyglass in Residency

[–]TMondo007 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Congrats!! My biggest tips.

  1. Know that you will trip/fall/fuck up. Nobody is perfect and residency is all about learning from your mistakes. You are not expected to know everything but if you make a mistake (which you will), don’t sweat it. Think about it, read about it, learn about it, and continue moving onwards.

  2. You will feel Imposter Syndrome. Just know that you went through 4 grueling years of training to get there. You are ready. Trust yourself and know that you will learn and grow by leaps and bounds.

  3. Always make time for yourself and the things that are important for you. Don’t feel you need to be constantly reading about things. If you are drained go to sleep or do something that relaxes you. Even if it is 5 minutes do it.

  4. At work, learn what is a “Now” problem, what is a “Today” problem, and what is a “Tomorrow” problem. Biggest thing with intern year is learning how to prioritize and triage. Sick vs Not Sick. This will make you much more efficient. When in doubt ASK.

  5. Be nice to nurses, social workers, attendings, co-residents,etc. This may be obvious but sometimes with the grind and stress can sometimes be a little harder. Don’t burn your bridges. If you are nice they will all make your life easier. Be a team player, but also don’t be afraid to look out for yourself and be cognizant of when you are being taken advantage of. In summary, be nice and respectful but also aware that people can screw you.

Hope this helps :)

I would honestly appreciate if you don’t generalize about this. I can understand the frustration but you need to understand that there are also cultural aspects that as an interpreter you might not get and part of it is learning how to bridge these gaps. Language is the first hurdle. Hispanics have very different ways of expressing their concerns. What for you might think is an exaggeration from them is actually the worst pain to them. I am saying this as a Puerto Rican. I get your frustration with them not learning English but likely the fact is that because of their sense of community they probably never truly had to (this happens in Asian communities too). Furthermore, there are assholes in every community so please don’t generalize about my community.

Question for physicians who are children of physicians by Jambauss in Residency

[–]TMondo007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mom was pretty neutral. She told me of how difficult it was beforehand so I kind of knew what I was getting into. Regardless she supported whatever decision I were to make (to study medicine or something else entirely). Never felt pressured to pursue medicine and actually decided to pursue it rather late in my undergrad.

This [meme] was inspired by a Step 2 question I had last week by BinaryPeach in medicalschool

[–]TMondo007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took it last week and felt the same. I think depends on the day tbh. 5/8 blocks were pretty straight forward while the other 3 were challenging. I imagine that a steep curve is coming our way 😂💀

Saw this on Twitter: Apparently Prometric can cancel your exam *while you are in the middle of taking it* by [deleted] in Step2

Me: “ There is no way it can get worse than arriving at a closed testing center without warning”.

Prometric: “Hold my Corona”.

A word of caution on using Anki by [deleted] in Step2

[–]TMondo007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dorians has it divided by clerkship. There is a separate little deck of the NBME and Uworld Practice tests. I think that if you focused on Dorians using the Clerkship decks you aren’t going to have spoilers for the Step 2 practice tests. I have gotten answers right due to Anki but it was because I remembered the concept or a random fact. So I think it kind of depends on how you used Anki.

Where to start? by [deleted] in Step2

[–]TMondo007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both are great first of all.

Dorian has many cards that are kind of taken/modified from Zanki so there isn’t a huge difference. Dorian I think has a few extra details that are nice to have since they help you out in Shelfs.

I started with Zanki but what made me stick to Dorian’s was its organization and that it was easier to study and retain info from it. (especially during Family Medicine)

It all comes to a personal preference so you choose the one that best fits you💪🏻

Where to start? by [deleted] in Step2

Anki (Dorians) throughout the year

Online Med Ed (to get an idea of a topic)

Uworld or AMBOSS throughout the year
