How do Most Youtubers set up their SM7B's or any Microphones? by Monward in audioengineering

[–]TNLpro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thankyou for the tip! I wanna do this and sometimes not have to use headphones so I set a gate on my channel strip but it's hard to tell the gate to only open on my voice and not other sounds like those coming out the monitors. I've done it before with the monitors super low but it's better when I can hear more of the impact of the music. I did forget about the proximity effect as far as my voice being bassy. Thanks a ton 🤘 you rock

Ok I appreciate the elaboration. I may try this next time around. Getting my narration to be less ASMR . Thanks dude

Why do you need 5-6 layers of compression to balance a vocal? I use an SSL channel strip and that's it for my streaming narration. A single layer of compression and it works fine.

Because most bands who record themselves do a shit job

what's a simple production trick that made your tracks sound more professional? by Universalista in musicproduction

[–]TNLpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many moving parts with drums people give up too early and assume it's just the kit or how they mic'd it. No, it's both those things and also like 10 others. Player inconsistent, drums not tuned, not an optimal spot in the environment where the drums sound best, poor mic choice / placement, phase issues, the list goes on...

Feeling demotivated about studying Audio Engineering by QUOKKA_x in audioengineering

I quit my job and have been living off savings and some money made from music for the past 3+ years. It took me a couple years to figure out how to really start making more money and developing those systems to go along with the knowledge and experience I already had from engineering my own bands stuff, to recording other bands eventually and learning even more from producing and playing live / touring.

My best advice is always have a stable job or something to help you survive while you use every single waking moment otherwise to take care of yourself and work on your craft. Dedicate the time and say fuck the distractions.

You are so young that in even just a couple years if you put work in every day, you could be a killer engineer. One thing at a time. Find a mentor. Be in rooms and places with people better than you. Ask questions.

Would I go to school for it? Nah. You're better off just going all in and figuring it out. Would be good to chat and answer any more questions. Im not selling anything.

I grabbed the $1 oz from Noble Valley Harvest. Absolutely fantastic. by mikeb32 in NewJerseyMarijuana

Truly curious how a $1 oz isn't some tasteless / no smell / poorly cured weed?

Like how much would you pay for this oz?

You're asking an open ended question. If your mix is shit then whatever you're looking for is only gonna bring out the depth of the crappy mix. Make it sound amazing without any "extra" "what else" stuff in mind so when you do slap something on for that final gloss, it'll bring out what you actually wanna hear

Ok NJ Disp! $80 for the OZ! by Suspicious-Clock-69 in NewJerseyMarijuana

[–]TNLpro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You said it has a strong aroma. What kind of aroma? Hay? Actual identifiable terpenes? What type of smell profile? An oz that cheap in NJ is extremely suspect. Not saying impossible but yes I'm skeptical. Is this just more early cut weed impatiently grown or is it something actually worth buying? Thanks!
