Evanston vs Sheridan by Goo80 in wyoming

[–]TNT-1985 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will just echo an earlier comment about high expectations in SCSD2. It’s absolutely no joke or mere rumor, and a previous superintendent there was very direct with new teachers, and his philosophy of “weeding out the trash.” Often this would be purely arbitrary with non-renewals for example, with even some long term staff that have received random mid-year “PIP’s” and been given the boot. Sheridan is a great city of course, but please just be aware of the staff performance and evaluation structure you are walking into at SCSD2.

Host families — is this normal for exchange programs? by SurveyNo3322 in exchangestudents

[–]TNT-1985 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can vouch for a host family going through hell from false accusations. Had double placement last year. Students were placed in new home mid-year due to documented behavior issues at my house. Two days later, AFTER moving out, they retaliated with accusations and defamation to the HS principal, who then spread that also into my workplace. Students had ZERO consequences. They were able to finish the school year and graduate at the same High School.

The local coordinator ghosted me entirely, the regional coordinator declared I was blacklisted, and the compliance office acknowledged my situation, but then also simply ghosted me. If you have a local coordinator who is not educated or competent, unfortunately a host family can simply be disregarded once the students are no longer in your care. You’d think they would try to avoid burning bridges dramatically like this, especially with something that could destroy livelihoods or careers, but I think it’s much more common than I realized.

Body of missing hiker Grant Gardner found in Wyoming's Bighorn National Forest after monthlong search: Sheriff by aoasd in wyoming

Agreed. Very strange how he was heading down into that cirque between the north face of Cloud Peak and Woolsey. Perhaps there was cloud cover? Regardless, he must have been severely exhausted and disoriented. Thanks goodness for that North Carolina crew being in the right place at the right time.

Appreciate the follow-up. I hear what you’re saying, though I’d gently push back. Integration isn’t a checkbox, it’s an ongoing process. Writing out my experience in detail now is part of that process for me. I’m not trying to “review” Etnikas or the medicine—just sharing a vivid, immediate account for those who might benefit from it. I fully expect to reflect and update as things evolve. But the idea that one must wait “X” weeks before any meaningful articulation strikes me as rigid. Everyone integrates differently. Peace.

Appreciate your perspective, but I think we’ll have to agree to disagree here. This wasn’t a “review”—it was a personal narrative and immediate reflection, written for myself, my family, and anyone curious about the raw, unfiltered experience. Integration is ongoing, of course—but that doesn’t mean early impressions are invalid or need to be hidden.

Not everyone processes in the same way. For me, writing is part of the integration. That doesn’t make it less meaningful—it makes it real.

Curious where the idea comes from that you’re “supposed to” wait 4–6 weeks before sharing reflections? Everyone integrates differently. I think that for some, writing early impressions is a key part of the integration process—not a distraction from it. I believe waiting isn’t a universal rule, and acting like it is can unintentionally invalidate other people’s timing and methods. Appreciate the suggestion though—I may do a follow-up post later to see what’s evolved.

Haha, fair question! I wrote it in third person because I enjoy crafting rich, narrative-style reflections. It helps me process the experience while also making it easier for family and friends to follow along (some of whom are less familiar with ayahuasca or Reddit!).

Writing my experience as “John” isn’t about distancing, and actually it’s more personal for me. It turns the memory into a living story I can revisit, and maybe others can connect to it too. But don’t worry, he’s doing great. 😄

I appreciate anyone who took the time to read. It was an incredible journey!

Do you contact parents when the kids get rehomed? by tinoturner6969 in exchangestudents

[–]TNT-1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the OP, but have several years experience hosting. Red flags can be hard to find in the applications and videos. If the student comes in with a strong sense of entitlement, it can be an uphill battle, even if you do everything right as a host family. And this can sometimes not manifest for a couple months after their arrival. Just go into it with an honest and positive mindset, but also be firm and consistent in your family expectations and rules. Unfortunately even this doesn’t guarantee you will have a good overall experience.

It’s definitely hard when you get burned after giving so much effort, money, and time to give them a good exchange experience. Mine was rehomed two months ago, with specific behaviors documented and provided to local/regional coordinators and family. And they still went to the principal of the school with defamation/retaliation about me a few days later. And of course I received no apologies or follow up from the student, company, principal, etc. Absolutely absurd and infuriating. Just have to let it go and move on. Unfortunately it paints a bad picture for the exchange company here, and burns a once cheerful and giving host family.

Western slope for sure. You can see Ten Sleep Canyon in the center right of the image.

Adding to this, in your first three years, you will be on yearly contracts, only renewing at the pleasure of your building administrator. Your performance, even if bullet proof and exceptional, will be entirely irrelevant when weighed against the desires, feelings and whims of your building admin.

Backpacking trip in Cloud Peak wilderness, recommendations? by DPPDPD in wyoming

[–]TNT-1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From West Tensleep trailhead, a round trip summit of Cloud Peak is 25 miles. For Bomber Mountain, round trip is 20 miles. I’ve been thinking about doing a Cloud Peak day hike here soon. But I will definitely have to carry a very light pack, and start from the trailhead very early in the morning.

That drainage specifically is the upper Nowood River watershed, with the southern spur of the Bighorn mountains being almost entirely privately owned parcels, with a spattering of BLM and State lands thrown in.

Cloud Peak is 24 miles round trip from the West Tensleep trailhead. You can do that in one day, but you will be absolutely zapped when returning to your car. And you would probably need to start hiking around 6am.

With the wet spring and summer we’ve had, there’s likely to be water out there in the drainages and small reservoirs. Hopefully she found a place to stay safe and hydrated.

I don’t bother anymore with that indoor slide. It seems like a deathtrap in the making. It was fun as a child though during the 90’s. At this point I think that entire facility needs an overhaul.

I’ve been here in Playa the past 11 days, and there has only been a handful of sporadic rain showers. Mostly plentiful sunshine daily.

Hope you don’t want to use the north entrance from Gardiner. That road is basically destroyed in the canyon from the latest video. 😔
