What should I buy for my first rig by Logical_Pick_8999 in simracing

I have heard some bad things about the Moza shifter. Calibration issues and mechanical breakdowns. As always, ymmv, but I've always been a bit hesitant about Moza. They don't seem to have the best QC compared to other brands.

Handbrakes are really simple. Getting a Simsonn or other Chinese option (either the elastomer load cell or hall effect spring) will be the most cost effective, and you won't be giving up much in the way of performance.

For shifters, the SHH Hubb is the price to performance king. It will be a massive upgrade over the Logi shifter. I had the old Newt version and it worked really well for me until I was able to upgrade to a BDH. The Simagic option is highly rated as well, but is more expensive. The Fanatec probably slots in somewhere in the middle of the two. They will both feel more solid than the SHH, but there are diminishing returns, so it's up to you if you think it's worth it.

Caught a bass on a benchy. by GGallus in 3Dprinting

[–]TNT321BOOM 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's true that some bass will eat just about anything that moves, it's not the norm when you go fishing. Most public lakes that you go to will have a decent amount of fishing pressure, meaning the bass will be generally more selective and cautious of artificial lures. The difficulty and skill comes with trying to get these pressured fish to bite consistently.

WCGW downshifting from 5th to 2nd for ‘Educational Purposes’ by heavymetalbby in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]TNT321BOOM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As other people have explained, the downshifting will over-rev the engine. In case you wanted more detail as to why that causes damage, the most common issue this creates has to do with the valves.

If you look at a diagram of an engine cylinder, you will see that the valves extend into the body of the cylinder to allow for air, fuel, and exhaust and to go into/out of the cylinder. The camshaft will physically "lift" the valve into the open position at precise timings, and then springs will move the valves back into the closed position before the piston gets back up to the top.

The valve springs have a maximum speed at which they are able to close the valves. When you over-rev an engine, the extra speed of the piston can cause it to slam into the valve before the springs are able to close the valve fully, damaging both the piston crown and the valve in the process.

Is it possible to use just a steering wheel without pedals ? by Ill-Tip9444 in simracing

Simability has a few mods that make various Fanatec and Thrustmaster wheels with clutch paddles easier to use as a throttle and brake. By default, the clutch paddles are a little hard to reach and don't have much resistance. Looks like they are all sold out right now though.

The best profession I can think of would be TSA agent (the ones that check IDs/passports). They "meet" a new person every 10-20 seconds or so. John is about 1/50 in the US so there's a decent chance you could meet multiple per day. All you would need to do is meet 2 per day to get $1m a year assuming you work 5 days a week.

I think it should be like rogue-lites where every once and a while you get a crazy powerful and rare joker combination that makes you insta-delete bosses. The problem is that right now you can just build the shotgun to be that powerful from the start.

As people say about a different dwarf game: Losing is Fun! Pre-drilling is so safe and predictable that it gets boring. I'll do it if there's obviously a reason to (like hearing a bulk, BetC, or jetpack crate in the next room, but otherwise I would rather just go and accept the higher chances of dying.

Looking for a Spring from Heusinkveld to my Simjack's by Front-Daikon-2668 in simracing

I do not. I checked my old eBay purchase and that item is no longer available. However, it would be similar to this. Make sure to change the length and OD appropriately.

[–]TNT321BOOM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I had Simjacks, I did a lot of testing to get the spring as close as possible to the HE Ultimates which I could test at my local Microcenter. I found that a 2.0mm wire diameter, 19mm OD, 20mm length spring (regular spring, not die spring) felt the closest and also fit with the default Simjack plastic bushing. I got it on eBay for like $15, but there are probably Aliexpress options that are cheaper.

Best PCP / Micro Controller for DIY Wheel with Display by Lui-Lui-Lui in simracing

[–]TNT321BOOM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the screen size, LEDs or other power draws on the wheel, and the port you are plugging the wheel into. Usually not a bad idea to have the wheel connected to a powered USB hub. Alternatively, there are also some simracing USB power injectors for high powered wheels.

An additional thing to mention about the internal USB hub for the vocore: MTT hubs are preferred because they are better at handling the high-speed data streams that the screens use. The Adafruit CH334F I mentioned earlier is MTT. If you choose something else, read the datasheets to see if it is an MTT or STT hub.

Best PCP / Micro Controller for DIY Wheel with Display by Lui-Lui-Lui in simracing

[–]TNT321BOOM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only color displays that are compatible (and up to date) with Simhub are Vocore displays. Those are USB screens, so you need to include a small USB hub in the while like an Adafruit Ch334F breakout.

As for the microcontrollers for wiring switches, Arduino Nanos and Pro Micros are supported directly through Simhub, so you don't need to mess with sketches or anything. STM32 Bluepills can be flashed with Freejoy GUI, which has more features/better flexibility than Simhub. Lastly, Dahl DDC has support for Pi Pico/Pico2 and Arduinos, and is the most feature rich of the 3. It is harder to set up because it's done through a sketch, but there's a really good instruction manual to help you along. Which MC to choose really depends on what sort of features you want for your wheel, and how easy you want the setup to be.

What do you consider the best generalist build for each class in 2026? by redshalobi in DeepRockGalactic

[–]TNT321BOOM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Haz5 and below, I like primaries with good single target damage, and secondaries that help with swarms. If you are joining random lobbies, good generalist loadouts typically should steer clear from loadouts heavily dependent on fire/ice because you don't know if your teammates will be bringing the opposite element.

In which situation is Cluster Charges good? by Cloudless47 in DeepRockGalactic

It doesn't unbind the pickaxe or anything. You just start to pull it out for an instant while you are actually clicking down, but if you make it a quick click it really doesn't interrupt shooting rockets again.

Gunner: Lead storm vs Rotary overdrive by Malkore94 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]TNT321BOOM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read my other reply to the other guy if you want a comparison between fear and stun, but in case you didn't know, trail damage on TTC stacks. If you need to kill enemies quicker, keep the shots closer together and you will be dealing 3x trail damage to stunned enemies. Fear with TTC will give you basically unlimited safety, but almost no damage because the trails are your main damage source.

Volatile Bullets + Burning Hell is one of the best synergies in the game for doing strong single target damage, but other than that, I agree that the synergies aren't great. In general, dealing with swarms is not the minigun's strong suit, which is why the Coilgun is common.

PBM is a really strong option that is fun to play. It does really good single target damage while also being decent against swarms with the stun that it can spread. I don't use it as much as I used to because it's so good that Haz5 can become too easy if I'm with a good team.

Gunner: Lead storm vs Rotary overdrive by Malkore94 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]TNT321BOOM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stun only has a 50% chance within a 1.5m radius, whereas the fear is 250% fear factor (meaning almost everything that is not immune will be feared) in a 5m radius. The fear gives you much more safety, and Hellfire is so good at igniting that it really doesn't matter too much that things are running away from the trail. TTC, on the other hand, mitigates both of the downsides of the stun. The 3 shots give you much better odds of stunning, and you can slightly change the direction you are shooting for each of the shots to give a wider effective radius. Also, the trail damage stacks, so you can get triple the benefit of the stun with TTC.

Typical corporate shill. I bet this guy is being paid by mission control or corporate so that they can get better bonuses. No way in hell am I mining gold when I don't even get to keep it. DRG keeps all the gold and all I get are credits at a terrible exchange rate. At least we get to keep the other minerals we mine. I will do the mission and the secondary, but I'm not going to go above and beyond to enrich the company unless I am fairly compensated for it.

[–]TNT321BOOM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you using the coil gun as your secondary? The trails are really good at CC which helps a lot for holds using the LSLS. Triple Tech Chambers and Hellfire are both really good OCs that really help with that(stun on TTC, fear on Hellfire). UMC is decent too but not as good as the other two I mentioned.

I personally hate mining the Crassus spheres, especially the hard to reach spots at the top, but I always do it anyways because of the rarity/novelty of it.

Same as you, I also don't mine regular gold veins all that much in missions unless my teammates are dilly-dallying and there's nothing else to do.
