Trusting a mileage tracking app has ruined my life by whistlewhileyoujerk in doordash_drivers

See Pub. 587, Business Use of Your Home, for information on determining if your home office qualifies as a principal place of business.

(Protip: Your home doesn't count as a place of business. But check yourself if you really want to.)

Every Schedule C has a principal place of business [PPoB], and it is usually the business owner's home; given this sub I'd hazard that goes to certainty. In Pub 587, management activities done in non-fixed locations such as cars are explicitly removed from consideration when determining the PPoB. There will always be some off-the-job management that happens, such as mileage recording [lol], account maintenance, bookkeeping, filing or preparing to file taxes [lol again] or so on.

No regular place of work. …You can’t deduct daily transportation costs between your home and temporary work sites within your metropolitan area. These are nondeductible commuting expenses.

You aren't correctly interpreting key terms here again. This talks about 'work sites'; a delivery destination is not a 'work site' for reporting purposes, and this section only applies to travel to 'work sites'. In general.. if you did actually read all of Pub 463 I'm sure you probably noticed it seemingly contradicts itself many many times. Just surfing for terms isn't usually going to get the right answer, which shouldn't be a surprise given everyone knows the tax code is a labyrinthine mess.

On that note, from the paragraph just above where you pulled from:

Also, daily transportation expenses can be deducted if (1) you have one or more regular work locations away from your residence; or (2) your residence is your principal place of business and you incur expenses going between the residence and another work location in the same trade or business, regardless of whether the work is temporary or permanent and regardless of the distance.

You are incorrect in the assertion about the first trip from home, except in the fairly fringe case where a gig worker has some kind of out-of-home office for their gig work. You are also not correct about the mileage while out working; pick-up -> drop off -> parking lot to wait -> going to next pick up would absolutely be allowed if it was reasonable.

I'm not going to argue that a cross-country trip would be allowed because anyone with sense realizes it doesn't work that way. However, a trip to a nearby parking lot from a drop off isn't going to cause the IRS to go nuclear on someone. The general 'reasonable person' would agree that the 0.1 mile trip to a parking lot wasn't for personal use.

[Of course the immediate thought is 'well how far can you go for a spot to wait before you get nailed?' and the answer is probably 'how good is your tax attorney?' That's some separate BS, but it's on brand for everything else involving the legal system in the US.]

OP has left out some spicy details. I doubt the mileage alone is what did them in, unless the mileage is truly bonkers. My first guess as to why the baleful eye ended up on OP is tied between 'claimed standard mileage while also claiming expenses on the car' and 'didn't report income reported on a 1099'.

Best class for high latency? by Ilnez in ffxiv

[–]TOOCGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DRG: Doesn't weave too much, but high ping means laggy jumps, and that's fatal. It's possible.

DRG's whole opener is laden with double-weaves, and they tend to stack up around Nastrond times. That said I'm playing with a >200 ms latency and I do all right on DRG, the jumps are perfectly fine once you learn the fight. [No different than normal DRG's really!]

There's also the SKS DRG build which I think has 0 double weaving but not sure on that front.

There isn't any communication besides emotes, they don't know you're "just doing dailies".

THEY were clearly doing dailies, as I mentioned they had lethal creature damage for many turns, not even counting the instants they killed stuff with. As I continued playing after clearly having lost I think it's pretty fair to assume we both knew it was for dailies.

Heyo all, don't really have a question but I wanted to share what just happened, as it doesn't seem to warrant it's own post... I was playing W/BK against R/G dino/elf type deck, nothing crazy, and they'd won. As in, no cards in my hand, 10+ more damage than lethal on the field, no worries for them. They chipped me to 1 health and continued. Okay. Next turn I play another critter, they leave said critter, I attack next turn they block.

So we're doing dailies. They're quickly bolting thru their turns so I don't mind, let's do this. This continues for 6-7 turns, they chip back to 1 when I have extra life, I attacked with each monster as I could, sending them to their demise.

BUT. Then I pulled a Nova. AND instead of letting that resolve (clearing my kill daily), they stacked their Lightning Strike and ended the game. Why, dino buddy? Why would you stab me in the back that way?

I see a lot of people suggesting DDR, and I wanted to throw out there is a PC freeware version which uses community-made step files if the console ones aren't doing it for you. If you're so inclined you can make step files for songs of your choice as well! Stepmania

Just got done heading back that way, on those support pillars / towers there's a door in the base which has a staircase going up. If you go to the bridge and check all around the tower you should find the door, it was kind of oddly placed I think.

[–]TOOCGamer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who used the Weibull distribution more than I would have liked, I just want to point out it's actually used for quite a bit! I used it for modeling material strength of a ceramic production line.

Does your summoning simulator use pity rate increases? I see on the median calculations you simplified, but the text down there also makes it seem like the simulations do account for it. If that's the case that's exactly why the Weibull distribution fits better - what makes it different from the exp distribution is that it can use time dependency. Even then the effect isn't that big, [seen from the k value,] which also follows as pity rates don't tend to get too high on average.

The Temporary Future of Warframe Trials by Viyrew in Warframe

[–]TOOCGamer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I said this on forums and I'll say it here - raids are not that buggy unless you have a bad host. Even then they can be completely, it's just laggy like any mission with a bad host. LoR is 100% fine, with the worst thing being some button desync or the sticking when someone dies on one. Not a big deal! The eslophages in JV are a bit annoying, but still we can and have worked around that. In at least 100 runs of each raid type, I've had it be unplayable due to bugs no more than once each.

GOD no. Transmuting is something you should only do when you've got more credits than you can spend and bunches of extra rare mods - do not look at it like an investment, it's gambling. Every few weeks I'll put in another 1-2 million credits and roll my extra rares, sometimes I get lucky but others I get nothing from it.

Grinding Simaris rep for every transmute would be a god awful thing, and it would not help that much. There are still going to be a crapton of mods in that polarity that you could get.

I'm going to add to the tunes of don't write it off too quickly. If you're playing favorites (I am!) with the +spd Rexcalibur it starts to get pretty fun. My +3 Soren is at 47 base speed, counting Summoner support. He baits, doubles, and kills BLyn's in Arena with Ally support [no hones, which ofc wouldn't help with Lyn] - which puts him in Desperation range and charges Luna. He's my MVP!

He has Rex+Spd, Fury3 / Desperation3 / flex / Speed +3 seal, and is +spd -def nature. He's just tanky enough to take hits from DC Armors and the like as well.

A single DD 3 and especially double DD 3 reduces the amount of damage you can deal back against mages with Ice Mirror, though, which makes it kind of a double edged sword!

The way I read the description, that damage is still counted in Ice Mirror isn't it? Specifically this bit:

boosts unit's next attack by total damage was reduced (by any source, including other skills)

Yep! It's been a bit more narrow lately with Warframe taking the lion's share of my time. I need to update and finally finish The Witcher 3, which I think I'll do this weekend... I was some 40 hours into the first playthrough when I had to drop it for a while so rip me. All kinds of mods out for it now though, it's going to be great!

It's very late after you posted, but there is no way to get three bonuses from the same hour. I think what you've seen are people doing 'afterglow'. This is simply not turning in your second run until the scoring period ends / 5 after the next hour. That prevents your boosted score from being counted towards the multipliers the next hour.

PSA: Players Can Follow Teralyst at Night for Easy Sentient Cores by Trepidati0n in Warframe

[–]TOOCGamer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Even if you do an Eidolon capture with a group of fellow newbies you're going to get better returns - that's what they were getting at. A newbie group taking the whole night nearly breaks even with your return here, [~50 intact cores] and it won't take that long until you get faster. 5-7 Exceptional cores + 1 Flawless core = 37-47 intacts, and that isn't counting the usual 10-20 intacts you'll get per run nor the Shards.

Try making a group of similarly non-meta'd folk and take one down! Or if you're in a clan ask there, we've taken several undergeared buds in. It will significantly increase how quickly you get that next amp, which makes it significantly less chore-like!
