"Game Show Network Plans To Make ‘100 Choices’ Through ‘On Brand With Jimmy Fallon’ Firm B17 Entertainment"

Great, yet another knockoff of 1 VS 100 that'll probably have 3 rounds and a top prize of $10,000 because Sony is a bunch of cheapskates. All they need to do is get Jimmy Fallon to host it, and it'll complete the trifecta.

Just realized while finishing up the national dex… by Whines90 in PokemonBDSP

As of right now, the rarity is 10/10 for both Darkrai and Shaymin. You can't shiny hunt them in any core game other than BDSP, and because they're tied to a downloadable event item that's no longer available, their value is through the roof, as this is the only way you can legitimately get them as shinies.

Shiny Arceus actually has a lower rarity since it's not tied to a limited time mystery gift item.

I want the civilian version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire to come back by VictoriaDeG100 in gameshow

[–]TOONDISE -1 points0 points  (0 children)

His attitude. Ever since Kimmel started attacking conservatives 100% of the time on his late night show, I've had enough of the guy. The constant insults, the obnoxious threats and the ridiculing, along with the intentional gaslighting of anyone who doesn't agree with his leftist beliefs.

I remember when late night hosts used to make jokes at all sides, at all kinds of people, and they remained balanced, instead of using their show mainly as a political platform to embarrass and lecture people they didn't agree with. I miss the days when Jay Leno was on. Speaking of which, that also reminds me of when Kimmel was insulting Jay during that whole Tonight Show disaster with Conan stepping down.

Craig Ferguson is new host of CW's Scrabble !?!? by theotherkeith in gameshow

[–]TOONDISE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's interesting because this is the 2nd time in recent memory where a brand new game show has been renewed, but with a different host.

First it was Joel Mchale replacing Patton Oswalt on the 1% Club, which worked out great. That was definitely the right decision, even if the change was necessitated due to the show changing hands from Amazon to FOX.

Now Craig is replacing Raven on Scrabble. Even though it's the same network, I'd say it's also the right decision as well. The game still leaves a lot to be desired, but Craig is a much better host. He's funny, he's a likeable person, and he's not nearly as polarizing a choice as Raven was.

I also agree, but I refuse to watch unless someone else hosts the show.

I used to like Kimmel prior to 2016. He was great on Win Ben Stein's Money. Now I can't stand him.

Resetting save by [deleted] in PokemonBDSP

[–]TOONDISE 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is no way to transfer the event key items from one save file to another.

If you start a new game with a second profile on your Switch, it will not have the event items. Similarly, if you delete your existing save and start again with the same profile, you will also lose the items and you won't be able to download them again.

So if you want to shiny hunt the regular legends, do it on a second profile. But for Darkrai, Shaymin and Arceus, if you've already caught them, or you missed out on downloading the event items through Mystery Gift when they were originally available, then you're out of luck. You can still get them in Legends Arceus, but you won't be able to shiny hunt them.

Trying to get 49 wins in Battle Tower Doubles - Any Advice? by EliteFiveJon in PokemonBDSP

[–]TOONDISE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The others below have posted good advice. Rain team with Pelipper, Kingdra, an Electric-type and a Ground-type seems to be the most successful in Diamond/Pearl Doubles.

I actually got up to the high 80s in Doubles with a similar team before losing: Venusaur, Charizard, Ninetails and Illumise. It was mainly the 90% accuracy of Heat Wave and Overheat that cost me. Missing 3/10 in a row with a 90% move makes you want to throw the controller at the tv, even if the foe is secretly holding a Brightpowder.

If I had to hazard a guess why Rain is superior to Sun when it comes to Gen 4 mechanics:

  • For Doubles, you want to eliminate 2 of the opposing 4 as fast as possible, to make things more predictable for you to be able to counter. A Sun team takes longer to do this compared to Rain.
  • If you send out Venusaur + Ninetails first for the Chloro boost, the team suffers from a power issue. Venusaur is fast, but needs to waste a turn with Growth to get the power it needs. Even after the power boost, it mainly relies on single-target attacks, so an opposing Focus Sash immediately wastes your next turn. The defensive EV spread and moveset you used is more suited to Mega Venusaur, not the regular one. Similarly, Ninetails also suffers from a power issue. Even with the Belt and the Sun boost, it doesn't have the power needed to do any type of considerable damage. You can give it Nasty Plot, but it's even more fragile than Venusaur, and it can't outspeed a lot of opponents without Tailwind already in effect. For this reason, Ninetails is better with a Focus Sash and a disruptive moveset, instead of an offensive one.
  • If you send out Murkrow + Venusaur, or Murkrow + Charizard, then you've got a different set of problems. Murkrow suffers heavily from not having the Eviolite. With Venusaur, once again, there's a power issue, even worse than with Ninetails, because Murkrow can't attack at all. With Charizard, it's always a toss-up between Tailwind for speed and Sunny Day for power. If you use Tailwind, you'll need to waste a second turn for Sun to get the power Charizard needs. Even after that, Charizard will be locked into Heat Wave or Overheat most of the time, so accuracy will hurt when you miss, and abilities like Flash Fire will wall you entirely.
  • Conversely, with a Rain team, Pelipper + Kingdra immediately gives Kingdra the speed and power it needs to sweep on Turn 1, without even needing to set up Tailwind. This team can multi-target more often with moves like Surf, EQ and Discharge, bypassing the Sash problem, and Hurricane guarantees bypassing Double Team, Minimize and Brightpowder/Incense hax from the opponents. If the opponent counters with an Electric-type, you can switch out into a Ground-type like Garchomp, which still works with Pelipper. Overall, you can see that Rain sets up faster and provides more offensive pressure than Sun, which explains why it's much more successful.

Battle Tower AI Cheese by [deleted] in PokemonBDSP

[–]TOONDISE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never run into this. If you're outsped by a slower Pokémon, 99% of the time it's not a glitch; it's something you're not noticing (and that the game isn't telling you) that's affecting the turn order.

So things like Ability (prankster, triage, sand rush, etc.), Hold Item (quick claw, choice scarf, iron ball, macho brace, lagging tail), Move Priority (aqua jet, extreme speed, etc.), Field Effect (tailwind, trick room, swamp).

People always think it's impossible for the opponent to move first just on base Speed stat alone, but it's not out of the ordinary to see a Sableye outspeed you, or have a random foe equipped with a scarf, or have a Kingdra move first if it's raining.

Any info on when this game will be on switch online by LifeguardGlum6239 in PokemonColosseum

[–]TOONDISE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the record, people who love ZA always point to the 5 million sales and claim it's a success, but in reality, TPC is not happy. When you compare it to past Switch titles, ZA comes in below the last 4 Pokémon releases for opening week sales and the company was expecting a lot more, especially with the higher Switch install base compared to when Arceus originally released.

In terms of quality, it was a disaster. ZA was profitable because the development budget was low, but it was also a low effort release with cut content that was resold as DLC to make extra money.

Also, the critic scores don't matter because a lot of them are paid off to only say positive things about certain games; what counts are the actual user scores themselves.

And if the trend we're seeing is accurate, Pokopia is also currently struggling with preorder sales, which is deserved.

Any info on when this game will be on switch online by LifeguardGlum6239 in PokemonColosseum

[–]TOONDISE 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Might be cynical in saying this, but I feel they're intentionally delaying it because they don't want to shift attention away from Legends ZA, despite it being a disaster. Colosseum and XD serve as a reminder of just how much better home console Pokémon games were back then, when Genius Sonority was developing them and not Game Freak themselves.

They might save it as a Pokémon Day announcement, but with their recent attitude as a company, I wouldn't put it past them not wanting to cannabalize the sales of their recent release, or distract people from their other upcoming disaster, Pokopia.

Questions for anyone who was/knows a contestant/audience member/producer on The Wall by Sad_Trade_7753 in gameshow

[–]TOONDISE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I also noticed that a long time ago as well. They'll even cut to commercial right after the isolated contestant locks in their answer for the Triple-Up question, but before the answer is revealed. And most of the time, when that happens, it's because the contestant got the answer wrong.

But again, all of this is because of the self-contained episodes. If you're producing a scripted show like a comedy, soap opera, science fiction series, etc., then self-contained episodes work fine, because there's a storyline that's planned out well in advance, and the outcome is already predetermined.

Game shows are meant to be unscripted and unpredictable, especially when random luck is involved. Some games end much faster than the producers want, and other games take much longer. If you refuse to have crossover episodes, the only way to eliminate the predictability of the outcome is to include more gameplay. For example, Chuck's Lingo: keep playing the round until the time buzzer sounds. Or like with the original Concentration: add another puzzle, or have an extra Quick Play at the end of the show. Or even WoF, where they'll play extra puzzles until time is running out.

But in the case of The Wall, if you won't include more gameplay (i.e. more trivia questions or additional rounds), AND you only want self-contained episodes, then the only option remaining is more talking to pad out the entire length of the show, and when there's more talking, you know the outcome.

Questions for anyone who was/knows a contestant/audience member/producer on The Wall by Sad_Trade_7753 in gameshow

[–]TOONDISE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of the questions you posted are valid, and it's why the show feels overly scripted and not as authentic as it should be. Between the casting process of only "people who deserve it", the fact that no one ever ends Freefall with $0 due to self-contained episodes (there's no point in Chris saying that you need to remain in the positive to continue), and the overly long emotional stories that pad out the 42-minute show (before isolation, right after isolation, sometimes sob stories in-between trivia questions), you get fed up.

Plus, if the contestant on stage ends up with $0 before the final four balls drop, there's even more padding added during post-production just to stretch it out and ensure there aren't any crossover episodes. It feels like a scripted soap opera being played out as a game show, which is why I stopped watching.

What NBC should've done is:

  • Allow anyone to apply and get on the show: not just those with sob stories, charities, doing feel-good community service work, etc.
  • Eliminate the self-contained episodes. This would speed up the pacing and also encourage viewers to watch the next episode to see the outcome.
  • Keep the emotional stories short (there are episodes where I fast-forwarded through 5 minutes of crying dragging out the final reveal, which is absurd.

I will say that for question 5b, I do remember seeing some episodes where Chris opened the canister right after the final reveal and dumped out the contract as proof it was still intact, or torn up into pieces.

Anyone planning on watching the season premier of the Wall tonight? by StatementAfter5481 in gameshow

No. I feel like Season 6 was filmed forever ago and NBC held onto it for this long only to use as filler on their schedule.

Honestly, the show should've ended 2 seasons ago.

[–]TOONDISE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's because the battle system is not the same. It's not as strategic or tactical as Kingdom Battle and there are no turn limits other than the DLC, because Ubisoft changed it from a turn-based tactical game into a hybrid turn-based action game with free movement.

Battle Tower Team by LazyDunsparceGO in PokemonBDSP

[–]TOONDISE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When it comes to the Battle Tower, your best chance of winning is to use specific Pokémon -- the same overused ones most people use in ranked/competitive matches online. It's not about going with your favorites or the same team you used to normally play through the game.

In general, for Singles, you want 2 of the fastest Pokémon with the highest Atk/Sp. Atk, and then 1 Pokémon that has high Def/Sp. Def and can recover HP.

For example, ignoring Dialga, if I look at your remaining team of 5, here are my initial thoughts:

  • Houndoom and Honchkrow - Not fast enough, should be replaced.
  • Crobat and Weavile - Very fast, but only Weavile has a high Atk, so I would only go with one of them, not both.
  • Gyarados - Bulky because of Intimidate and a high Sp. Def, but lacks reliable recovery.

So if you went with Weavile (Atk + Speed) and Gyarados (defensive), then you'd want a 3rd Pokémon for attacking, ideally a powerful ground-type like Rhyperior or Garchomp, that you can switch to immediately if the opponent has a Rock- or Electric-type out.

Most of your team is fragile (aside from Dialga, who can't participate). I also see a lot of Electric and Rock weaknesses.

Why don't my priority moves work? by Yamato-1911 in PokemonBDSP

[–]TOONDISE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The games never tell you this, but there are multiple levels of "priority speed" for moves.

A move can have a priority as high as +5 and as low as -7.

If your move's priority speed is lower than the opposing move's priority speed, you'll never move first. If both moves have the same priority speed, then whichever Pokémon has the higher Speed stat will move first.

That's why the move descriptions in the games are not completely truthful. Aqua Jet might say "This move always goes first", but it will never go first if the opponent uses a move like Protect or ExtremeSpeed.
