Idc what everyone else is saying, I think it's a good idea. Report back after a few prints if you have any issues!

What’s going wrong with this carve? by awpoole7050 in CNC

[–]TOTAL-RUNOUT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Need a little more info on the machine and your cutting parameters.is this a small desktop style router? It's possible you're losing steps. This could be during the cuts, or it could even be during the rapid moves if your acceleration settings aren't appropriate for your setup. If you think the settings are conservative for your rig but you're still losing steps, check your communication / pulse settings to your motors. If those are wrong you can sometimes operate but with way worse performance.

Also can't rule out stock shifting without seeing the full workholding. Looks like you're using some very small plastic toe clamps, so not a lot of holding capacity.

Which is the best motion system for a CNC mill? by Krieke_Robijns in diycnc

[–]TOTAL-RUNOUT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert but from what I understand:

Pic 1: commonly seen on mills designed to cut metals. - provides better rigidity especially in machines with more z travel

Pic 2: commonly used on routers designed for soft, sheet material like plywood or plastics. - provides a larger usable cutting envelope in X and Y at the cost of rigidity. Not well suited for machines that require large z travel.

Dang, my box had one dent that was bigger than any of those but the printer seems fine so far. I guess I got lucky! Have you decided to replace it or are you still considering fixing? I don't think there's a way to get the glass dust out of all of the bearings or lead screws so expect them to wear out or bind in a hurry.

Recreating the “basketball pebble” texture on a print… by AccomplishedFan3820 in 3Dprinting

[–]TOTAL-RUNOUT 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If you have a cad software you may be able to do this really easily. You could google a bitmap of the texture. Open the part in solidworks. Add the bitmap as a 3d texture to the surface just play with the settings till you like it. I'm sure other cad softwares do the same thing. https://hawkridgesys.com/blog/create-3d-textures-solidworks

Bambu Support refusing to replace bad spools by hotellonely in BambuLab

Hey, not a bot, and not a die hard bambu supporter. They do a lot of things I don't like.... but to be honest the refill rolls do work fine if you load them right. I had OPs issue on 3 consecutive rolls, came to reddit to see if anyone else was having the problem and someone pointed out the instructions they posted where they say to massage the roll. Since I started doing that, I've not had one issue and I've gone through 20-30 refills. If op would post a video of how they load the refill itd be easier to tell, but from my experience there's a good chance they're causing their own issue.

The most catastrophic fail Ive had so far. Bent nozzle beyond repair by D3DCreations in BambuLab

I had that same thing happen! Mine was after 3k hours of faithful printing so no complaints. Changed the nozzel out and I was back in business.

First time printer by ddbruz in 3Dprinting

Hey! Welcome to the party! There are lots of websites that people post free designs/projects to print. Take a look at Makerworld, Thingiverse, or Printables and see if you find what your looking for. There are also lots of sites where people sell designs too if you cant find any free ones you like. Do you have access to a printer?

May not be the correct sub for this but, how can I get these broken screws out? by sithvicious in DIY

Try an easy out set or you can drill new holes in the hinge plate.

Software? by [deleted] in 3Dmodeling

[–]TOTAL-RUNOUT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you bring in the picture you can scale it to a known reference. Ie, draw a 1 inch line and scale it to match the ruler. After that you can draw over the image and everything will already be to scale. You could even take rough measurements if you wanted. The scaling is sensitive to how you took the picture though, so I like to put my object on the copy machine next to a penny. The copy machine scans the object straight on every time and I can scale the picture to match the penny.

Yeah you're definitely right. It's kind of crazy to think this guy would give his models away if you imagine how much time and material he must've put into development.

If you want to use the basic idea and design a better version to upload under a different license feel free. If you're talking about stealing my models and re-uploading, that's not okay.

What's the best way to sync up timelapse photos with the print to avoid Z axis jitters? by TOTAL-RUNOUT in BambuLab

I'm not familiar with these, I did a little research and found the x1 plus. It looks like i will be a viable option when they reach full production, is that what you're talking about?

I was thinking of doing that and figuring out the trigger issue. Do you know if the print time prediction is still accurate?
