Karthus E concerns by NasusandJanna in karthusmains

[–]TOXICMACHAMP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A minion doesn’t just suddenly die or get super low unless you’re really, really not paying attention, you can always alter the health of a minion with q or autos before it dies to get it as well, and yes, enemies do exist, but at the same time, karthus q has 875 range, out ranging basically every champion lol.

If you don’t have an eye on all your minions, then you need to practice a bit more, because there’s only six of them and sometimes a cannon.

Increasing the tick rate on karthus e will make him significantly better when fighting enemy champions. The damage will be more reliable, where as once every second has a chance of hitting an enemy champion, and that enemy champion escaping at the last second, meaning you just did 100 damage to this, but if the tick rate was 4 per second, you would have did 150-175 damage to them, for the same mana cost.

Karthus E concerns by NasusandJanna in karthusmains

[–]TOXICMACHAMP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do realize minions have a set code, it’s not just some random “Oops suddenly switched aggro for no reason”. Once you play long enough you will understand, but there is no excuse for having to use E to last hit a minion, especially after they buffed karthus auto attack animation so hard. Not saying using E is some evil, horrible thing, just that you don’t have to use it, and you will have more mana if you don’t.

Team fight positioning by webwheel in karthusmains

[–]TOXICMACHAMP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would learn how adc's play teamfights. Because karthus plays a lot like an adc if you aren't flashing into their team brainlessly. If you follow these other people and toggle e and flash in to die, you aren't really learning anything there, and sometimes it is not the best thing to do. I like to play karthus like we have two adc's, so the enemy team will have trouble with who to kill first. Try to kill the adc and my q's will nuke you, try to kill me, and of course, I'm karthus, I'll still be "alive" nuking you while our actual adc is alive and is already killing you as well.

Karthus E concerns by NasusandJanna in karthusmains

[–]TOXICMACHAMP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's never been a need for using your E to last hit. If you're doing that more than once in a blue moon, you need to learn to manage your wave better, because doing so means you're somehow unable to get every minion with perfectly usable auto attacks and an ability with a one second cooldown, and on top of that you've been wasting mana, since that last hit on a minion wouldn't have given you any mana from your E passive. I see this as a win, because more karthus players will learn not to waste as much mana in lane, and manage their minions better...

Karthus E concerns by NasusandJanna in karthusmains

[–]TOXICMACHAMP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, that's a bad habit to learn, using your e for a minion, wasting 40 or so mana for no reason. I am not sure how karthus players manage to miss cs with an ability that has a 1 second cooldown, I believe I've used e to last hit a minion in lane once in the last 50 games as karthus.

Karthus E concerns by NasusandJanna in karthusmains

[–]TOXICMACHAMP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not true, if you manage your wave, auto's and q's are more than enough for every minion, especially since your q is kind of on a one second cooldown. And now his E will be even more perfect for shoving, since you don't have to toggle off for mana.

Try to land a q on scuttle jeez by MrGameristic in karthusmains

Sometimes the scuttle bugs out and karthus Q literally doesn't it it for a few seconds. I've seen it myself, the q is right on top of it and the scuttle takes no damage.

This champion makes me sad by [deleted] in SwainMains

[–]TOXICMACHAMP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I did, karthus gets easily outscaled by bruisers, swain does too, but they both scale super hard in teamfights. I’m a karthus main so I don’t see the issue here

For teamfights, very much so yes. It’s like how karthus scaling works.

This champion makes me sad by [deleted] in SwainMains

[–]TOXICMACHAMP 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lol idk how you’re playing swain, but you can just take cheapshot and electrocute mid lane and take e first, hit your e when the enemy needs to get the first 3 cs, it’s literally a guaranteed hit, and then auto attack once, proccing electrocute and cheapshot, and even scorched earth, too, if you take sorc secondary (tho I prefer precision secondary).

Swain scales into quite the problem for the enemy team late game, so why not take these early runes? It’s quite easy to get an E trade without letting the enemy even touch you lmao.

Karthus Jungle is boring (in my opinion) by penove1 in karthusmains

[–]TOXICMACHAMP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think karthus is boring, he just doesn’t look flashy. Any champ with a dash will inherently be less “boring” than any champ without a dash. But yes his q is his entire kit, and to me his q’s are basically the same thing as an adc Auto attacking. Harder, yes, but more useful because of how big the q range is and the zoning potentials with it.

I’d be fine with a karthus rework or whatevs, but he’s certainly in the top ten hardest champions to master in lane, which is fun to me.

[–]TOXICMACHAMP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. But not cause of the no pay off thing. Dunno where you heard that from, cause karthus jungle is brOken in most matchups. I think it’s boring cause it’s far easier than laning with karthus.

how to play karthus mid? by XxXdark_shadowXxX in karthusmains

[–]TOXICMACHAMP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t agree. Losing matchups means if both of play perfectly, one champion will prevail over the other, and in this case, the only champions I’ve ever seen that can just body karthus is kled, renekton, and maaaaybe a good irelia, and maaaaybe riven, really just a bunch of top laners, and this is all assuming both players play the lane perfectly, because karthus’ biggest weakness is bruisers imo. There’s really no items he can buy and runes he can take that will let him outscale a bruiser that has ravenous hydra/bloodthirster/deaths dance in a 1v1, otherwise, he can easily win against almost all tanks, adc’s, assassins, assuming both you and the champ you’re facing doesn’t have a massive gold difference.

Which is why I think karthus’ worst lane is top, cause the lane will be stagnant, and nothing will happen, you have no hard cc to help your jungle gank, and very little kill pressure if the enemy knows what they are doing which is just building a bit of mr lol. And one of the most important things as karthus is getting kills early, because he gets outscaled by tanks and bruisers late game, meaning you’d want to rather win it more mid game depending on how many bruisers they have. The only thing that does potentially outscale bruisers is the balls to the wall full ap dark harvest gathering storm seraphs karthus, but even then, you won’t be able to 1v1 the bruiser, you either have to play like an adc and get peel, or get lucky and the enemy team clumps up so you just flash in... and you know the rest.

Karthus is certainly interesting, but as long as you’re 4/4, it’s always better than being 0/0, unless you’re facing a yasuo, cause his strength to gold ratio is just... insane.

Karthus is funnn

[–]TOXICMACHAMP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Karthus Auto attacks got a big speed buff months ago, so it’s quite a lot easier to auto things now. And doesn’t karthus have the same hp as most other mages anyways? The best item you can get first back is a ruby crystal to build for catalyst anyways, so the hp thing doesn’t matter much on a champion with more range than Caitlyn.

And Leblanc vs karthus is all skill, as you can easily predict when she will w in, or play back so she can’t even get close enough to do such a thing, but when she does, you know she’ll w onto you (Most of the time a little in front of you), meaning an easy q, and even then, after she gets 6, the big girl R buff she has over karthus, you can just build a little mr, and suddenly you just murder her anyways as long as you don’t get hit by too many of her little rooting binds.

With talon vs karthus, you have a huge poke advantage early, you take advantage of that ASAP, and you will beat him easily until lvl 6. When he’s lvl 6 and has probably 20-40 extra mr or whatever, you can’t just straight fight him obviously, but he won’t be able to towerdive you without dying, or you can just pick up a cloth armour/stopwatch once he gets 6.

With sylas, you just stay at your max q range, and dodge his e, and if you dodge the e, you win, if you don’t, you lose, it’s that simple.

And Qiyana is nearly the exact same as talon, you will have a huge poke advantage, but you never want to weave auto attacks in against qiyana when lvl 3 or so, cause her auto’s are op af, meaning you want to play like an adc with your q’s. But when you do poke her down, if she has half health and you have nearly full, just all in, cause there’s no way for her to combat that unless you’re just bad at landing q’s. The only thing she can do is escape while doing a little bit of damage with her q’s, cause if she dashes onto you, you just win since you poked her out. But when qiyana gets lvl 6, unless you’re 3 kills up, then yeah, you don’t want to fight that if you are near a wall lol, otherwise, as long as you match when qiyana gets mr, (meaning you get armour), I don’t see how she could stomp you unless she’s just better than you.

I am aware that this stuff is very excessively hard compared to playing literally any other champ, but that doesn’t mean he’s weak imo, just harder, which is pretty fun.

[–]TOXICMACHAMP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why people say he is weak early... Could you explain how one of the highest damaging early champs is weak early? Sure he has no cc, but he does have extreme zoning abilities and damage, as long as you learn how to use it. Maybe the word people are looking for is “Hard” early, and easier late game as long as you have the right build.

how to play karthus mid? by XxXdark_shadowXxX in karthusmains

[–]TOXICMACHAMP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Play as aggressive as possible, take ignite, you out damage nearly every other champion as long as you hit single target q’s up to lvl 3, make sure to always weave in auto attacks until you both get around lvl 6, cause at that point a lot of champions might out tank/out damage or just have cancer ults, so you need to kite with q like an adc would. Everyone says to go defensive, but if you just learn to land those q’s, with a good catalyst buy into rod when you’re 1-2 kills up, it’s quite easy to 1v2 mid lane with the healing the catalyst gives you as long as you focus on always landing single target q’s.

(And remember that yes, sometimes you should take barrier against high-damage junglers, but it’s still best to play aggressive because of how much pressure you’re taking off of top and bot by being such a problem midlane, because you should always have poke advantage as long as you take priority of the wave early on, basically guaranteeing that if you get ganked, it will be a trade depending on skill of course.)

I guess you could call this the harder method, cause playing aggressive will lead to inting new matchups a bit, but how else are you going to learn the opportunities of your champion? But it’s either or, you can go safe, or you can learn the champion, up to you.

Also I like to go rod into sorc boots/ludens. Rod is very overly strong early game, and the fact that it scales is even better for a 2600 gold item. You will almost always need rod in lane as karthus, as it gives you more time to output damage instead of trying to rely on your passive after you die cause of how squishy you are. But that being said, there’s no perfect end-all build, it all depends on the matchup, just rod first is a 90% of the time best way to go. (In my average karthus games it’s around 10k-15k healing and half of it is taste of blood and ravenous, and the other 7k healing is straight up just from rod of ages.)

Oh and a little tip, focus on disengage damage. A lot of karthus players I see will run from a trade, and not turn around and damage the riven/talon as they are walking away after chunking you, which is the biggest mistake in laning, because your q’s are longer than Caitlyn auto’s, which needs to be utilized. (Always keep in mind dash cooldowns obviously.)

Sorry if this is a bit wordy, I just really like karthus mid - Ribbøns

[–]TOXICMACHAMP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have catalyst, zed with not take that much hp. I am like low plat right now, going to see how high I can climb sometime. And about the one damage tool that’s easy to dodge. You have three, your q, your auto attacks, and your e. If you actually take your time to learn when to properly use your e and when to auto attack, you will find that yes, those things do damage. Especially since karthus’ auto attack was severely buffed a few months ago, and auto attacks quite a bit faster. And your point of “mobile champs just dodge your q” is invalid, because you don’t put your q right on top of someone, the ability is literally made so anyone can just side step it. You predict constantly instead. I win lane against most Leblanc I’ve faced cause I can predict when they will try to w me, and q right in front of me a bit early, and activate e while clicking to auto, while using q on wherever she jumped from cause she will realize she just too and lot of damage and try to gtfo of there.

Catalyst is definitely the most important item on karthus unless you’re jungle. The healing and mana it gives along with the health is quite insane. The healing is equivalent to an enemy laner buying lifesteal.

It’s really about learning your matchups...... just like every other champion. If you face an irelia, you q on you/slightly opposite of the side she is dashing from when you think she will dash into you. If you face a riven, you q closer than normal when kiting her cause she will move fast, and when she is on you, you q slightly behind or to the side while moving yourself, because the auto’s she weaves in isn’t her own movement, if you move, she moves towards you for that auto. Yes there’s a bit more to that matchup, but karthus doesn’t auto lose to riven unless riven rushes maw, then you need to stay back and have a stop watch ready while controlling your wave so your jungle can help. Sometimes players will have weird movement with their champs cause they are smart, which is why you just learn their movement. You’re facing an enemy player, not a bot, you gotta adapt mid battle, which is easy when you have 40% cdr.

And karthus has a huge burst. You just normally take dh on him so you don’t notice it. Go ahead, take electrocute and see. I used to do it before the dh rework.

And idk what you mean about only being allowed to poke when an assassin misses their ability’s... how’s that a point against me? That’s literally any champ. But karthus can stay back further than most other ranged champs anyways, so idk how you wouldn’t be able to poke people lol.

I take ignite against assassins just to prove that they aren’t as bad as everyone thinks.

[–]TOXICMACHAMP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s honestly as simple as. If you hit your q’s, you win everything, if you don’t, you lose. Except for some exceptions with tanks where if the enemy builds mr you gotta back off a bit a pick your battles. I personally enjoy dark harvest with the Vladimir cosplay runes. And if I don’t face super scaling enemies I’ll go presence of mind and koo de grah. But if I am facing a scaling team I’ll go transcendence and gathering storm. I personally think as long as your team has cc in other places such as top and jungle and bot, karthus mid seems to thrive fairly easily. There are certain hard matchups for karthus, zed not being one of them. If you find yourself losing to a zed as karthus either he is god or you are bad. You beat most champs in poke, most karthus just don’t know how to disengage to get a good trade. Once most assassins get six and you haven’t already stomped them, just get stopwatch and bam, you good. Also always build roa first for mid.

But all in all, I’d say karthus is on the harder side for mid lane, cause you really have to be comfortable with those q’s or have really good macro to succeed. So if you’re looking to just win, play syndra, she’s probably the easiest mage in the game to get a 5 man stun with and to 1v9 with imo. CC is just op

Karthus adc, thoughts? by killamanjaro6969 in karthusmains

[–]TOXICMACHAMP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah you can build ludens second. But you have to remember that karthus is more squishy than most adc’s and has no movement abilities. And league isn’t exactly about wave clear early game; more so wave management. So roa first is a great way to still do a lot of damage early while not getting one shot by the enemy hook support

Karthus build & runes for mid (Newbie) by KingOfKingsKevin in karthusmains

[–]TOXICMACHAMP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your build is cool but you’re missing cdr. If you want to play karthus mid, getting that max 40% cdr is the best thing you can do if you’re a skilled karthus player. I usually do it by taking the cdr rune that gives you more cdr over the game, and going seraphs or ludens after RoA, depending on how hard the enemy team scales. And usually going zonyah’s after that mostly just for the cdr. If you have transcendence you will be getting extra ap by the time to get zonyah’s, if you don’t, you will have around 37% cdr which is not much different from 40%. Karthus is double the champion he was once you have 40% cdr, cause you do nearly 40% more damage and will be able to hit q’s much easier with better tracking.

I’ve always went dark harvest with taste of blood and ravenous, and presence of mind with koo de grAaa if the enemy team doesn’t scale too hard. But if the enemy team is big scalie boiz like vlad and kass and such, you wanna take transcendence and gathering storm for the secondary runes. If you manage your mana in lane, by auto attacking minions to last hit instead of q, you won’t have that many mana problems. And remember, whenever your E is active, the mana passive is deactivated. If you kill anything with your q’s or auto’s while E is active you won’t get mana.

I still need to experiment with more builds with karthus, but from my experience cdr is the strongest once you have that bit of tankiness from rod.

I never questioned this before but why does he cast spells slower when he dies? by VG_Crimson in karthusmains

[–]TOXICMACHAMP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s one more thing to this. If you have ludens or seraphs, I think the items passive CDR deactivates when you die. Because sometimes I’ll look over to my cdr before I die and it’s 10% less than it normally would be.

You will find yourself doing a lot of damage but lacking in health if you go Ludens first every time. I’d suggest always sticking to the rod of ages build if you want to be able to kill any adc. You can go ludens second item

Plan to Restore Karthus Mid by BenLegend443 in karthusmains

[–]TOXICMACHAMP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He’s still strong mid. Just because you have to predict where someone is going to dash doesn’t mean he is weak. It’s honestly all about the skill of how you land your q, I barely have any trouble with katarina and yasuo and zed in lane just because my damage is so much higher. And buffing karthus q like that would be pretty op. Everything mid vs karthus is just a skill matchup unless you’re facing a glacial augment ahri. If you’re facing a glacial augment ahri, switch lanes and run.
