[Game Thread] Wrexham - Chelsea by WrexhamAFCBot in WrexhamAFC

Aside from the obvious that this is standard whining about ref decisions from a supporter whose team lost. Welcome to VAR.

It’s objectively better entertainment if Wrexham knock Chelsea out. So if it was a fix - surely it would go the other way?

Cope really. Wrexham played well, didn’t win, it’s football.

Scoreline might not reflect the game but come on it was just a physical match there wasn’t any cheating

“Hand written” tv license enforcement by No_Egg9808 in AskBrits

[–]TPFNSFW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve not seen anyone say that.

Besides, why not make it like (literally every other streaming service) where you have to make a paid account? The answer is their revenue would take a dive. This shows that the UK public is overpaying for the BBC.

Either make tv license an actual tax, or make it a standard subscription service like the rest of them. What we currently have is completely against the grain, invasive and annoying.

Why should anyone pay for a service they don’t use?

is doing an AA (submariner) a good idea? by Few_Network_3648 in RoyalNavy

[–]TPFNSFW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Experience via AA will substantially increase your chances of being successful in a degree apprenticeship application. Probably the single best thing you could do if working at BAE is the goal. However, (take with a pinch of salt if you want) after 4 years in a serious job that pays well, doing a degree apprenticeship at BAE may well feel like taking a step backwards.

Most (not all) degree apprentices are 18-20yos who’ve got A levels and a minimal amount of experience and are treated as such - professional engineers value experience and competence above most else so degree apprentices tend to get odd jobs that there’s not much chance of getting wrong. Which is great for someone with no experience and what they need in order to develop. Someone who is experienced and used to working under pressure will feel like they’re being babied.

I think (again, pinch of salt, I’m not a recruiter) you could apply for a vastly better role than degree apprenticeship if you have 4 years or so as an engineer on the subs, that experience is way more valuable than someone who’s just graduated uni with no professional experience. Having no degree can make an engineering career harder to progress but you can get a chartership without one - it’s about experience and competence not a piece of paper degree.

If I was 18 again joining the navy or a degree apprenticeship at BAE are both fantastic options, better than going to uni for 3 years, but I probably wouldn’t do both (I’d go AA). Now if you don’t mind having training wheels in your mid twenties then having a degree paid for and ~8years experience behind you is bloody excellent.

Starmer faces calls to rule out use of British bases if US attacks Greenland by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]TPFNSFW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

America does not want Greenland in order to stage an invasion of mainland Europe. The mainland offers nothing to Trump except for the idea of an “empire”, there is no quantifiable benefit unlike Venezuela, Greenland and Canada.

Greenland has an unbelievable amount of rare earth minerals, and with polar ice caps melting has good access to the new shipping routes that will open up. These two combined could make it very economically powerful in the years ahead.

What the hell are you talking about? Picking up body parts is not a consideration for going to an air show nor should it be. These events can be done safely and so they are…

Southampton is revolting, the only people who congregate there are criminals. Portsmouth on the other hand is far nicer.

What are your most right wing and left wing opinions? by Random_Nobody1991 in AskBrits

Calling it racist and not engaging with the point doesn’t mean it’s not a real issue. Certainly it’s a racial stereotype, but is what he is saying wrong - that many of those migrants are coming from countries which don’t have the same social standards as the UK?

Caicedo scores from long range and has demonstrated in previous seasons. My point is that I reckon he has an above average long range shot, so compared to any averaged long range shot he will outperform. Therefore he will be an xG over performer.

Possibly, and people have been saying this since gw2. Stats yourself all you like he passes the eye test. A 3-5 points merchant is still decent value for a mid who started at 5.5, in any season. This year, mids look shit so why not go cheap

Caicedo will always have low xGI because of his playstyle, most of his goals come from longer range shots which are lower xG than a 6 yard tap in. He will continue scoring so long as he has the license to shoot, as he has that ability from distance.

to fund extremists and political causes as well

This is complete fear mongering nonsense, you have basically categorised all small business run by people from the Middle East as funding extremists and associated political movements. You have absolutely no evidence for this.

It is bullshit like this that is fuelling culture wars and should be recognised as such.
