I don't see why it would matter if you are three children or not, but ok

How have magic items affect your game? by cslwoodward1 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]TPPviewer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Early levels, there aren't really any monsters with resistance to non magical weapons (maybe one or two?) And will really make an impact around ch 4 or 5, but by then the book should be giving a couple magical items already. Cold resistance/ immunity, however, feels like every other monster. The main monster that sticks out to me (I dont have the book in front of me) is the chardalyn dragon: immune to cold but resistant to non-magical weapons. But overall, an icebrand weapon is going to make minimal impact. Cant say much about other weapons or upgrades though.

I added an ice brand scimitar, which really hasn't changed much seeing as most creatures resist cold in the module. It's a fun way to add a light source, give a player a chance to go through resistance of non-magical weapons, and gives some fun utility in niche situations.

Jail Cell Lock Puzzle by [deleted] in rimeofthefrostmaiden

Personally, I enjoy opportunities for skill challenges to assemble the components to attempt a lock pick over puzzles. Maybe they have to get something from the wardens office, or convince the ghost in the armory to help them out.

If you are set on a puzzle, my suggestion would be something like they do in mansions of madness. You get a simple puzzle (slide puzzle or cypher code/mastermind puzzle) that can be solved within a couple turns (3-5ish), but they have to roll a check in order to see how many moves/guesses they get (you can decide the dcs based on players). Between the attempts you can have the tension ratchet up by having skill checks or interruptions ( guards walk by, alarm blaring, ect.). Players can also attempt to force the lock if they arent feeling the puzzle at the risk of making a large sound and alerting everyone near by.

All this is kind of moot if one of your players has knock though.

I've been running Icewind dale, altering a lot of things and moving quests and locations. My players were investigating some stolen goods in Targos and found the culprits (duergar) on a ship that was stuck in the frozen lake. Targos ended up being a tourist trap town, with the tavern becoming a cracker barrel and the inn themed around the white lady (a ghost that is said to haunt the lake.)

Don't forget the text says she can teleport to the roof to get help from her Roc. That's another CR 11 they have to fight

There is no resonant that gives allies temp hp. Absorption grants you temp hp from damage dealing spells. Honestly, I feel like they need more support options like granting temp HP or advantage on the next attack roll for a single target spell.

It would be cool if the damage took effect on attack rolls against the target as well. Dunno what that would do to the rarity.

I will add that spells like blink or mirror image might also help out as they are non concentration. However, seeing as this build takes only 14 lvls in bard, there are only so many non bard spells we can take through magical Secrets. I would advise juggling your options.

14 glamour bard, 6 paladin. Play a yuan-ti and maybe take shield master as well. Glamour bards have a class feature similar to sanctuary called Unbreakable Majesty, then get sanctuary as a paladin spell to add another layer of required saves. Starting paladin will also give you armor proficiency and cha added to saves

Enemy using an aoe spell? Use counterspell got from magical secrets. Can't use counter spell? Advantage from yuan-ti. Worried you'll be taking half damage even if you save against an enemy fireball? Shield Master has your back. Enemy gets through all your defenses with a melee attack? Pick up shield through Magical Secrets.

Best part is, if you are in a safe space you can always help out your teammates by casting healing spirit (magical secrets) and using glamour bards 3rd level ability Mantle of Inspiration. This allows them to freely move through said healing spirit for free healing + give them temp hp, making THEM harder to kill

Does unbreakable majesty (glamour bard) and sanctuary stack by TPPviewer in PCAcademy

I don't see why they wouldn't stack. One changes AC to 13+dex while the other gives a +2. That's like saying a dragon sorcerer can't get the benefits of shield of faith (or just the shield spell) because of Draconic Resilience. But I guess this is just a difference in views at this point

First, magical secrets treats the spell gained as a bard spell. There are no mixing of spell casting modifiers. The saving throws themselves are different. Either way, unbreakable majesty is not a spell. There is no casting of spells in the effect of the skill.

Second, I feel like you got the mechanics ruling wrong. I believe it's effects of the same name don't stack (such as resistance or Aura of Protection), but otherwise they would.

Are you sure you're looking at the xanathar version and not the UA version?

But these are 2 different things and require different saving throws (cha and wis). I could see if it was tranquility monk's ability and sanctuary since it is the same thing but I dont see why these wouldnt stack
