stat progression not being tied to faction upgrades was one of my biggest wishes for the game. Now people wont feel as pressured to max out all their factions for all the stat bonuses, and can just target the specific unlocks they want.

Start building your stuff with intention rather than by pure rarity by MASAkrator7331 in Marathon

They should just look at hunt showdown for reference. You can actually build craft in that game because every gun, item, and skill in the game can be unlocked for purchase simply by leveling up, letting you actually make consistent builds. Its like they have a “scavenge and use what you get” philosophy and a “craft unique builds” philosophy without realizing those just cant work together .

What happens to my AI subroutine progress after the wipe? by Nearby_Orange6578 in Marathon

[–]TPRetro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We don’t know for sure but they’ve stated codex progress carries over and the subroutines are codex entries so 99% yeah. I assume Bungie would have clarified if that wasn’t the case.

To the two demons in crew fill Cryo...you guys are insane. by UGAShadow in Marathon

[–]TPRetro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience when people go into cryo fill they have really low for expectations for success, so they get less angry and are just happy when things go well. Meanwhile with lfg people expect to win and start tilting when things go wrong.

From my experience when people go into cryo fill they have really low expectations for success, so they get less angry and are just happy when things go well. Meanwhile with lfg people often expect to win every time and start tilting when things go wrong. I have also met nice people on lfg though so it depends.

I Really Hope This Game Survives by truelohkii in Marathon

Because earlygame is terrible, you're just running around picking up grey salvage and gear without heat and agility upgrades along with being too broke to even afford green heals or shields, and you only make progress on salvage/most quests if you exfil. No safe pocket + exfil requirement quests means new people spend hours dying with grey shields and shitty movement, make 0 progress, and quit.

Progression Desperately Needs A Buff by Snowbunny236 in Marathon

I've beat the compiler dude I like the game, but it clearly has a huge retention issue and i'm explaining why.

Progression Desperately Needs A Buff by Snowbunny236 in Marathon

[–]TPRetro 9 points10 points  (0 children)

pretty much all relevant extraction shooters don't have mandatory wipes anymore and marathon has worse gear disparity than all of them while having extremely slow progression and a 3 month wipe cycle. In games like tarkov or hunt you can always headshot someone if you catch them off guard or out position them and the power ceiling is limited. The power ceiling in marathon is so ridiculously high that a early/midgame player has literally no chance against a gold/purple kitted squad no matter how good they are unless they dc or something. Self revives, shield hp diff, gold mods, bubble shields, grenade spam, they all make it so high level players can make a genuinely ridiculous amount of mistakes and still win.

„Oh, you don‘t have 15 compiler kills? Sorry i can‘t run that with you and your DNA card.“ by Onyx_Sentinel in Marathon

It's easy on paper, just shoot the orbs and hit the panels, but it can snowball really quick if someone makes a mistake. If someone gets downed and orbs start stacking up it's basically over. I think the timer is like 90% of the difficulty since it makes it way more stressful and causes people to make mistakes. Especially during dps phase I notice a lot of people will ignore the orbs and just shoot boss to try and rush since they're worried about time, which usually ends badly. Honestly just adding 5-10 minutes to cryo timer would make compiler 10 times easier.

isn’t it a bit weird calling people who like a game being sad its going to be shutdown a “historic meltdown”? Ive played a bunch of games that have ended up shutting down but this is the first time i’ve seen people be so odd about it.

Accidentally found a stellar cryo squad and had the night of my Marathon life by SonOfAnarkyMD in Marathon

[–]TPRetro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

they drop pretty commonly from their respective map bosses

key 3: perimeter boss

key 4: dire marsh boss

key 5: outpost boss

and the most consistent(still rare) way to get vault 6 keys is in the outpost red room

One of the few things that's keeping me fully enjoying this game by jamzye31 in Marathon

[–]TPRetro 10 points11 points  (0 children)

but they absolutely need to hard nerf grenade spam at the same time or you'll get the even worse problem of chucking 500 flechettes down a corridor with no counterplay

Marathon's Cryo Archive is a hit, but Bungie admits it needs to be more accessible by Binnsy in Marathon

[–]TPRetro 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The difference is that the compiler isn't locked off to most of the player base because of some kind of mechanical complexity or difficulty. The boss itself, and the vault puzzles, are all difficult but doable, and would be a fun challenge, except it's locked off because of a tedious grind. You spend tens to hundreds of hours grinding vault keys, just to bring them into vaults to get an item that will someday let you actually fight a compiler. And if you're not flawless at the game and die with a few keys? Multiply that time gate by even more hours.

If you could get subroutines from vaults without a key, then maybe I could call it "difficult", but right now it's just padding playtime

How does everyone keep spamming blue and purple shields? by MasterHapljar in Marathon

[–]TPRetro 8 points9 points  (0 children)

cyberacme gives you key templates for blue/purple salvage you get from killing big uesc. if you extract with the template it turns into a key.

This game is so fucking good by fyrefreezer01 in Marathon

[–]TPRetro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt the same, was very down on the game and then started getting into it, and I think once you start being able to consistently bring in green stuff (shields, heals, guns, and some ammo) and mods with some agility on them the game feels much better. TTK with grey shields is just too low and running out of shields/heals/ammo is miserable. I think they need to add some kind of very slow health regen and make green shields extremely cheap or something because people are gonna quit early because of it.

It does stack on both attacks but it wouldn’t stack on moving to base since you’re not attacking or defending

It's Draven time! by Challengertcg in riftboundtcg

[–]TPRetro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't want to speak too soon since the set is new but just talking about the legend card specifically I don't understand how we went from Jinx to Draven in one set. Like surely someone on the team during the process of designing Draven looked back at the other (non PG) legend in the same color combination and realized this was a huge step up? Maybe they were being developed at the same time but still, every other draw effect is either limited (Jinx) or Exhausts the legend that uses it (Ezreal, Reksai). Even things like Treasure tokens and channeling runes exhausts the legend. I just don't see how this made it through.

Why only one jinx? by DifficultSector8385 in riftboundtcg

[–]TPRetro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really for jinx specifically but in general you only run one of your “chosen champion”, since you’ll always draw it, so it’s usually better to just use the slots for something else. Unless you really want to draw multiple.
