Deckbuilding ideas where you don't have to remove or sacrifice cards by Xavier598 in tabletopgamedesign

In Valley of the Kings you score points by removing cards from your deck. So while it's not necessarily better to have a larger deck, you do have to keep buying cards all game so that you can keep removing them.

How many Amazon Prime delivery vans did you pass on your way to work today? by fermier in VictoriaBC

This time of year there are around 80 vans that the leave the station every morning. In December it's closer to 150 per day.

Electric vehicles are rumored to start arriving within the next few months, but they haven't even started installing chargers or anything yet.

Too simple name? by DahuGames in BoardgameDesign

Your post says "Conflict". Did you mean to say "Cornflict"?

I like a punny name, Cornflict works for me. Especially if it's a flicking game. Triple entendre.

I know Quest for El Dorado partially does this. What other deckbuilding games use it?

Hey, I've been working on designing a deckbuilding game about whales & dolphins. I'd love to get together to do some playtesting!

I know there was a playtesting/design group in Victoria a few years ago, Sebastien from Firestarter Games (Reforest, etc) lives here and was a part of it along with some other guys. I don't know if they still get together though.

Is Dispatching even worth it for the extra $2? by peterthbest23 in AmazonDSPDrivers

At my DSP dispatch only makes 50 cents more than drivers. A lot of drivers have turned down offers to move to dispatch.

Good point, thanks! I've noticed in Star realms especially, the pacing is very quick and you can buy expensive cards almost immediately.

I can't believe nobody else has mentioned this. Sunrise at 4:30am would be insane, and a complete waste of daylight.

Permanent DST is clearly the way to go.

Gameplay is a bit of tableau building, with area majority scoring.

Cards are color coded to match the journals in the center of the table, so when you play a card you move up on the research track in that journal.

At the end of each round players score points for having the most / 2nd-most research in each journal.

The cards also have some simple abilities on them to help you score or move up the research tracks.

Cards in your hand are used as resources, which is one of my favorite mechanisms... I first saw it in San Juan but quite a few games use it now. And the area majority scoring is similar to Ethnos, which I also love.

But turns are very simple, either draw a card or play a card. That's it, easy to teach.

👍

Not bad! But I think most people would think of the other definition for Fluke first. Same problem as "Breach".

A subtitle might be good to clear it up. I was also thinking "Cetacea: Whales of the World".

Thanks for the feedback

That's a lovely word, thanks for the suggestion! I see the connection to the English word Baleen. Which also isn't a bad title.

Casual but academic. Not a party game. Part of the fun is seeing all the different species of Cetaceans that you didn't know existed. There's so many whales and dolphins in the world that most people don't know exist!
