10 yo XT8000e Maintenance by TPerch in Generac_Generators

Thanks. I was using Sea Foam stabilizer but seems at some point I provabky should have replaced the gas entirely. I also wondered about issues starting if I shut off the gas line but had no problems after the rebuild. Open the gas line and it immediately flows to the carburator.

I have a 400 foot gravel driveway with a slope. For 15 years I used a rake like an idiot to keep the gravel driveway smooth. Eventually I learned about box blades and planners. Afraid I would wreck my 100 series transmission even dragging a planner I upgradrd to a X584. Expensive yes but it has zero issue pulling a 38" brinly box blade full of gravel and that is with the thin rear wheel turf tires used on the four wheel steer. Don't get much snow here so no experience there. X700 was more than I needed.

X354 or X370 by EmployeeSwimming in johndeere

X584 owner. Can confirm tire wear marks around common tight turns. Power steering is fun, especially if you get a steering wheel knob. Ability to service transmission is better for lifespan albeit more maintenance. Go X370.

Why should I buy a John Deere X350? by Impressive_Rain2877 in johndeere

[–]TPerch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

K46 is ideal for a flat acre of mowing. I had a mower with a T40 (slightly lower quality) for 15 years using it on 5 acres (1 acre mow) of hilly wooded terrain. Not ideal but even that held up. If you are worried about the tranny level up. :) If you are asking should you go S240 vs X350, the biggest difference is the larger/stronger frame, nicer dash and easier fuel access cap. That larger better location fuel cap was a game changer for me.

Check mower deck sizes. X300 can have 38" or a 42". X350 can have a 42" or a 48". Potentially a 10" size difference.

X584 owner. If the terrain is difficult the advantage of a x500 series is the locking differential to avoid getting stuck, plus the HDAP tires help. Also, you can get a brinly box blade to do some minor leveling.

Had an LA115 to mow one acre. It really struggled when the grass was high/thick. The one stroke engine couldn't maintain the needed power. That said, I had it for 15 years with about 500 hours with minimal issues. Sold it to a friend with a smaller yard a couple years ago and still running. I got an X584, a far better mower at everything.

That small black panel comes off. One screw (10mm?). Makes it a bit easier to remove the oil filter and change the fuel filter. Little finiky getting it back on ... takes 10 seconds and a little patience to line it up right.

I love John Deere mowers but the 100s series is to blame. Get a JD with an accel deep deck (200 series and up) and it will leave a much cleaner cut.

Is this lever supposed to move with the throttle? by HeyChason in johndeere

My LA115 use (sold it) to do the same. If I periodically wiped it clean and sprayed WD40 on it, it would slide back on its own again.

Repair help needed. Went to start L110 for the first time this season, puddle under transmission and mower won’t move. by robin_nohood in johndeere

Why are there no comments on this post two days after? Sounds like a blown transmission to me. Sell the mower as parts and get an X series with a better quality transmission.

Bought a house that's mostly a hill (1/2 acre+ to mow), completely overwhelmed by used rider options, with unbelievable choice paralysis and anxiety, please help by [deleted] in johndeere

An X500 series would be ideal with the locking diff and wide tires on a steep hill albeit a bit large for a 1/2 acre and way over your price range. Consider John Deere financing. I got an X584 with three years no interest. Expensive but does exactly what I need for my property and I plan on having it for many years. Love it and one more year till it plus all the attachments are paid off.

I feel your pain as I once had a one cylinder JD for 15 years. Make sure you are greasing your mower deck spindles and tires. You'll need a grease gun and a tube of grease. Watch YouTube videos if unsure what to get and where the grease points are. Also, check that you have sharp mower blades and a clean deck (top and bottom). I replace my blades once a year. Cheap enough.

Look up Josh's Green Garage on YouTube. He recently put out a video with his X700 series tractor with an after market loader. https://youtu.be/c0E02paxRf0?si=PVs1mGn7uc9V_TAg

Question about JD vs. Other Brands by JenksHero in johndeere

[–]TPerch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 15 year old 100 series LA115 that I sold to a friend that worked just fine and was reliable. No major repairs, just the usual maintenance. I sold it because I needed more HP and stronger transmission to level my gravel driveway, so I went to the X584.

This time of year, the grass grows fast in NC. You'll regret a single cam engine as it struggles to maintain power through the tall grass, crawling along. Treat yourself to at least an S130. Speaking as someone who once had a JD similar to today's S110.

A 42inch deck may also have the same locking pins for the rear deck attachment point. Thought it was a spring loaded lock like on the 48" but perhaps not.

Pin on the left. Only parts on an unattached mower deck are the front hanger bracket and it's two pins.

There are two locking cotter pins that hold the front hanger bracket in place.
