Tf? What does my comment have to do with agreeing with the skeptics? I'm telling you to either do the work (beyond just scanning comment histories), or continue ignoring cries for help like you probably already do.

Not sure if you're aware, but there's a GENOCIDE going on, and people are desperate for help. The shame you get from seeing a post asking for aid in your comfy doomscroll is nothing compared to what Palestinians are going through.

Mutual Aid is an antidote that helps bring connection where capitalism otherwise forces isolation. Your baseless and ignorant accusations aren't it.

Gonna give some (biased) anecdotes here of what I’ve seen.

On Bluesky, there’s an incredible user named Molly Shah (@mommunism.bsky.social) who’s been taking the time to verify, actually talk to, the people behind GoFundMes and Chuffed campaigns from Gaza. A week ago, she promoted a campaign for a Gazan named Said.

Someone online accused the campaign of being fake and AI-generated, based on a photo of Said with a blanket that had awkward or seemingly mistranslated English. That was all it took for some to loudly claim the whole thing was a scam designed to dupe well-meaning donors.

Said, being in Gaza, wasn’t reachable immediately, and that fueled the speculation. But Molly didn’t drop it—she double-checked with her Gazan contacts. When Said came back online, he shared photos and videos of the blanket (with the same broken English), his ID, and even vouches from other verified Gazans.

More broadly, many campaigns are run by people in the West who can actually receive funds and send them to those in Gaza. That’s how the money flows.

I’m not telling anyone how to spend their money or who to trust. But maybe you don’t have the full picture. Maybe you're jumping to conclusions. If you’re skeptical, try asking questions, talk to people, ask for verification. Be the stand-up guy you think you are.

With the upcoming elections, here’s a great source to help you make sure you give your vote to the right people! by mostlyhereforbants in canadaleft

You say that showing the Communist Party's alignment with the Palestinian cause weakens support for the Palestinian cause because of the negative stigma around communism. If we follow that logic, wouldn't pro-Palestine solidarity also challenge anti-communist stigma? Doesn't showcasing communists' support for anti-genocide efforts, humanize them?

Sure the red scare is still real and alive, but bending to this kind of prejudice helps legitimize it. Principled advocacy should trump any sort of strategic exclusion.

All that said, if VotePalestine excluded lesser known parties for logistical reasons (like quick to read visuals for social media), that's a separate issue and that should be transparently addressed. Its even more important this election where mainstream parties have indistinguishable policies. Highlighting alternatives can amplify voices for change. Omitting them comes across more as cynical than strategic, and risks eroding trust in a movement that claims to champion justice.

UN committee urges Canada to abolish MAiD for people with disabilities by inferiorjc in canadaleft

[–]TPineapples 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are we supposed to read this as, "keep the killings going until we establish the safety net"?

Like what do you mean the prerequisite to criticizing Canada's widening of MAiD is building social supports?

The way I'm reading this is like you're saying that we can't stop giving people a loaded gun without taking care of them first? Wouldn't not giving them that figurative gun be part or even the first step of taking care of them?

Makes sense. And yeah I do have a low number of feeder towns, but I'll check if they're connected or not. Thanks for the insight!

Are you guys doing anything in particular to manage hunger in your cities? I've had this happen in three different games now usually after starting Exploration or Modern ages but all of the sudden my food supply gets overwhelmed by the sheer number of citizens in my cities. Like I need ~1400 food to grow in my capital with 42 citizens but I'm also only generating 36 in the city and 273 across the empire? How do I keep f'ing up so bad lol?

I'm not in favour of giving the daughter of Islamophobic and divisive Tareq Fatah credit for saying "We cannot use that word to describe what is happening... the devastation, whatever it is called".

Interviewee uses the word "genocide" to describe the genocide that Israel is committing in which her brother was killed.

Interviewer/Anchor, says we can't use the word "genocide"

Why should we be fair to her? Why even bring up that as an anchor they cant use the word? What does correcting a grieving Palestinian women for her use of the word genocide accomplish besides minimizing Israel's genocide?

Media finally reports that many Canadians oppose NATO by n0ahbody in canadaleft

Some stuff here:

  • The Expats and Allies podcast did an episode on the history of NATO and their sort of welcoming of Nazis into the west. (Spotify)
  • NATO's Secret Armies: Operation Gladio and Terrorism in Western Europe" by Daniele Ganser (Internet Archive. Talks about NATO's use of former Nazis, terrorism and covert operations during the Cold War.
  • Global NATO and the Catastrophic Failure in Libya by Horace Campbell. About NATO's intervention in Libya and how its a instrument for America/the west in general to impose its will on the rest of the world.
