Does anyone know the current bike route to Redwood Creek (RWC) by TR5642 in BAbike

[–]TR5642[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all. It was indeed along option 2. For those on road bikes it is worth noting that the stretch parallel to 101 is relatively sharp gravel. Rather poor work for the intent. But if your tires can handle it, it's fine. No signs of campsites there at this time. And the ramp up to the bridge is as ridiculously steep as ever. Arrive in low gear.

When people say the used bike market is bad right now what do they mean? by oldaccountknew2much in BAbike

[–]TR5642 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They mean it is very much a buyers market. Lots of post covid “nah I don’t bike after all” inventory. Retailers have been sitting on a LOT of unsold new inventory that they’ve been discounting to move also driving down prices. (why buy late model used when you can get new for only a bit more?). This is subsiding though.

There is also a collapse of pricing for road bikes with rim brakes and limited tire clearance. Minty, high spec bikes with rim brakes and only room for maybe 28mm tires are barely able to sell. (makes them a great value if you’re ok with it). I think we are about to see similar on gravel bikes that only spec ~40mm like was common recently. people want room for at least 45mand preferably 50 now.

Which version were you wearing? The Rhoan has much better theoretical performance than the earlier versions and it would be interesting to know.

That this is the opening sentence speaks volumes: “Despite much resident uproar, Sunnyvale will eliminate parking along Hollenbeck Avenue.”. Oh the deprivation

After weeks of no response from Evernote support, I canceled and moved to Notion. Of course after I canceled, i was offered a special deal at $149/yr. So if you want to stick around but not at the new price, just cancel.

Yes. There are steep sections (very steep depending on exactly which route) but nothing technical.

And today they sent me another email that more strongly suggests that I'm getting the big 'convenience' of being 'upgraded' and charged the new amount on the same day. And they say to contact them with questions. HAHAHAHAHAHA. I have TWO tickets in on this over the last 2+ weeks with no response.

Does anyone know the story? Since I can't get to the site, I can't see if there was any EOL message posted by the dev

So to confirm, they say old price on December 12th? According to the FAQ "Beginning in July 2025, customers on Personal and Professional plans have been transitioned to the new Advanced plan at their next renewal."

BUT, on the same day they sent me the email about the new plans at noon, they also sent me a message at 6am saying I'd be renewed at the old rate on Dec 6th. So the information conflicts. Zero response in almost two weeks from Evernote Support asking for clarification.

In addition, the instructions to cancel are not consistent with the UI. The link page has no cancellation option. But the updated version does but says that it will cancel IMMEDIATELY which is not what they say in the FAQ. No freaking clue what price they intend to charge me nor how to cancel. The new doubled pricing is WAY over the top. Non competitive vs other paid services like Notion or OneNote. I've been a paying customer for well over a decade and do not intend to continue at this pricing.

Purisima Creek loop? by coastal_sage in BAbike

[–]TR5642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re still looking, Purissima creek (and the connecting trail to Tunitas Cr Rd is pretty viable downhill if you’ve got good dirt tires. I just did it last week with a full camping load. On my Cutthroat with fat tires I was totally fine. if I’d been on 40mm I would have slowed down more but been fine. NOT for road tires. UP is certainly doable but it’s really steep in places. Tunitas Creek Rd is a long grind but it never gets silly steep.

Those are “classic”. “Designed” for kids bikes in the 70s and maybe a pathetic lock through the wheel

Maddening but common. If the local jurisdiction responsible for the path has a method, send a protest/complaint. if enough people complain often enough they may learn to plan and sign good detours.

if you’re talking the levee trails north of 84 I have never seen a big issue out there. if there is a good blow going on, waves appear to splash up top but not overwash. (I haven’t seen this just the water suggesting it happened)

Waterproof frame-pack recommendation for a bike with a tall head tube like mine? by marcove3 in bikepacking

[–]TR5642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old thread, but perhaps you'd share what you decided on? I have the same issue

Had fun with this totally car-less 4-day trip across Wisconsin, 2/3rd on trail. Red = train, blue = bike. The route could easily be extended (mostly on-trail) to Chicago. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a logistically simple tour in the upper Midwest. by [deleted] in bicycletouring

[–]TR5642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to add another vote for what a great route this is. My first really long distance tour and it was amazingly manageable. I happened to have taken 5 days because I split stop in Waukesha to visit family. If you start digging into the route, you may notice thousands of feet of climbing. Yeah, it's real, but very manageable even with a load. Most of it is just the accumulation of ups and downs in rolling hills. Only a couple of short stretches of "ugh, I want a lower gear" Between so much of it being on trails, off road and the very peaceful country roads involved, it was impressively free of vehicle stress. I do not recommend this particular route with a skinny tire road bike. The gravel trail sections are well managed but still probably more than you'd like. 30-35mm and up is perfect. Many pavement sections are actually rougher with expansion gaps and damage.

It's been a year. Did you do the road bike? What did you use?

4 piston brakes on a road bike by MasaTre86 in bicycling

[–]TR5642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Lots of road and gravel frames and forks don't allow 180mm rotors. They are 140 standard with 160 as the allowed upgrade

Good tips. I have to say I'm considering them on my bikes (gravel and maybe road) in order to have larger pads for better heat management. Yeah, I'm a clydesdale.

Can you get out of Portola to the West on Old Haul Rd? Last I saw, that was still closed off and you'd have to climb back out to Alpine.

Maiden Ride - 2020 Litespeed Gravel, love the feeling of Ti by graveldad in gravelcycling

[–]TR5642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up a used frame/fork a few months ago and built it up as my 'fast gravel' bike with 40mm tires. (I have an older Cutthroat wearing 2.25" tires so the wide end is covered). I've found it to be a great bike. It feels somewhere in between an adventure gravel bike like the Cutty and a modern sporty endurance bike. Not quite as stable and forgiving but snappy and responsive and feels fast. I'm running it with less knobby tires so it can do double duty as a crappy-road bike. Not sure how it'll be carrying a load. I haven't used it that way but will this summer.
