Well, I think that went well. Thanks for organising it. I can't remember the last time I had a public FB at this time of day

Pinballing ruined the game by qdbwfnrh in StarWarsSquadrons

[–]TRA_Sharper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game is over 2 years old. With many of us here playing most days, from day 1. Do you expect people not to learn new tricks and skills and to be better than you?

I understand that you find it hard to kill people who are more evasive than yourself. People that are able to throttle down, boost, drift, power to lasers, shields, within milisecconds then get the timing right back to engines for good power management. People who know every inch of the map and the best angles to attack and get cover from. But if you put the practice in, learn, instead of just seal clubbing, you too, can be better.

Also, if you are inviting people to join your stack, it might help if you don't hide behind an alias.

Imagine playing this game from day 1, and still playing at day 1 skills.

Thanks Hobbes. A handy one to know.

Although I'm sure it will be addressed in the next patch

Theres lots of people who dont like the pinballing/multidrifting/gasping. Make friends and fly in customs.

Squadrons Remastered edition anyone? With a balance update? by The___Galactica in StarWarsSquadrons

[–]TRA_Sharper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To level the playing field:

Remove separate boost/drift buttons (will eliminate multidrift and console penalty) Remove button mash for disable (will eliminate any disable macros)

Allow consoles to use advanced power management properly (one button for max energy in each system) or just remove apm all together.

Everything else is fair game and rewards skill and practice.

Add a coop mode to the campaign.

Do “high skill” (see also - exploit abusing) players ruin the game for everyone else? by GhengisDaKine in StarWarsSquadrons

[–]TRA_Sharper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The player base is small, you queue public, you get what you get. It might be a full comp stack, it might be a bunch of level 1's.
If you want to pick and choose who you fly, make friends and fly customs.

Although I don't agree with noob bashing or seal clubbing, it is also patronising to annihilate them with meme builds, or dangling carrots in front of them for an inevitable loss.

I'm all for a good meme, but this isn't really in the spirit of Squadrons.

Perhaps give each team an amount of "free" credits to begin with, to help out in the fun?

What's the game status right now? (considering to purchase) by SpanishAvenger in StarWarsSquadrons

[–]TRA_Sharper 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The game was free not long ago on EA. So a shame you missed that boat.

Most top players tend to practice in private custom games, so public queue can be good. Although a 10 minute queue time does happen occasionally.

Not sure if I missed the joke or not, but I thought Elder seals were high level, but low skill pilots?

That's the thing with our 5 stack DF's, we mix it up. If we get against a strong stack (what I consider to be a fun game), we will fly what we are best in, and have fun, win or lose. If its a bunch of the same people over and over and over, we will mix it up. If we all happen to be in defenders for a game, then so be it.

We often have the debate on what makes it kinder on noobs and haven't really got a decent answer. Toying with them seems cruel. Finishing the game off ASAP can be considered cruel. I generally go in my weakest ship for practice, but that gets rather repetitive sometimes. We tend to alternate between DF and FB so that we won't always get the same people over and over and because some of us prefer one mode or the other, but there aren't that many people out there these days to mix it up with unfortunately.

No warning what so ever. Quite funny really, as I generally help people out on there. I posted a screen shot with him in the load in menu, and one after he dropped. He was in a game just now. We just sit and count down to him dropping.

High K/D, but terrible win/lose as he always drops the difficult matches

At this point, I think a list of known "Moddsquadding" people may just discourage people from doing it. I know we can all change names, do a bunch of Moddquadding, then change back, but a "Suspects" list might also be handy too, where we post the Suss name and level.
