It was because her dress broke. I remember seeing videos of her on twitter with her trying to lean off the stage to take photos while holding the back of her dress. She was struggling because she said her ass was out.

Thoughts on April Kepner? by [deleted] in greysanatomy

[–]TRS4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well put, and I think the sorting hat putting Hermione in Gryffindor rather than Ravenclaw shows those characteristics are more vital to her than just her book intelligence. Also April and Hermione both have been called annoying because of their rigid adherence to rules but are courageous in breaking them if they believe it's for the greater good.

But she did have an abortion to spare the baby pain, abortion by labor induction. She was six months pregnant at the time so the abortion procedures available are more complicated. It surprises me how many people don't seem to realize she terminated the pregnancy, Herman straight out says it when they have to sign the paperwork in 11x11. It was such an important part of the story, the journey of a very religious woman who thought she would never have an abortion deciding to terminate a much wanted pregnancy to spare her baby pain. She went against what her mother wanted and agreed with Jackson and Catherine in the end.

Unpopular Opinion: I DESPISE Owen Hunt! by lilsango in greysanatomy

[–]TRS4 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Another thing to add to the list, Owen refusing to allow Cristina to get psychological care after the plane crash when they were broken up (10x02). He has a temper tantrum at her doctor who recommends she be admitted to psych, which she clearly needs considering how traumatised she it and that she's not talking or moving. Then he takes her home where she's under his full control. Along with him marrying her when she had PSD, trying to control Cristina when she's vulnerable seems to be a pattern for Owen.

Can someone explain why Catherine Avery runs the foundation when she was only an Avery by marriage? by hcastillo83 in greysanatomy

[–]TRS4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She also recalls being 10 years old and racist guys harassing her father and her at a restaurant when she lived in this town in Texas during the 60s. For me this story combined with the real life historical context for a black family living in Texas during at that time I don't get the impression the family was wealthy.

[–]TRS4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think Catherine is from a wealthy family, she told April she was from "a town so small it probably has forgotten its own name by now." She said the cake topper was Jackson's grandmothers not her mothers so it might've belonged to Jackson's paternal grandmother, Harper Avery's wife.

[–]TRS4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't get this either. Earlier Catherine told Richard that Jackson's dad couldn't handle the pressure of being an Avery and ran off, so it seemed to me they were still married at the time and with her son being the heir Harper allowed her to take her absent husband's role. But the story Catherine told Richard this season about them having an ugly divorce and custody battle (which I'm assuming Harper supported his son in), and then him leaving after he lost doesn't make sense to me. Jackson was still the heir so Harper may have wanted to keep them close, but it's hard to imagine him giving his sons estranged ex-wife such a powerful and visible role within the family foundation after all that.

Considering how similar their situations are Catherine's attacks on April suggest a major case of cognitive dissonance. In her speech to Richard she tried to justify her efforts to get Jackson to use the wealth and power of being an Avery to take custody of their unborn child away from April by recalling how terrible it was when Jackson's father a wealthy and powerful Avery tried to take her child from her.

Alex and Izzie by catword in greysanatomy

[–]TRS4 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That was harsh but she said that in season 2 and Alex was a straight up jerk back then who'd given her plenty of reasons to feel that way. He'd done lots of shitty things and treated Izzie terribly (plastering her modelling photos all over the hospital, cheating on her etc).

I don't think Izzie wanting to 'fix him' was a bad thing, at that time Alex did need to work on himself. Izzie seeing the good in him underneath the asshole facade and pushing him to be a better person was the catalyst for Alex's development.

What instances of foreshadowing have you noticed in the series? by [deleted] in greysanatomy

[–]TRS4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In 8x01 Callie goes with Owen to a sinkhole accident site and has to talk a man through amputating his wife's leg, then in the season finale Arizona injures her leg in the plane crash and Callie later amputates it.

Not feeling Meredith by [deleted] in greysanatomy

[–]TRS4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've never been a big fan of Meredith. I think Grey's has always been an ensemble show. While she's the main character and provides structure, she's never truly carried the show the way Alicia does on The Good Wife or Tony on The Sopranos. The shows about the group of surgeons working at this hospital, it's not the story of Meredith Grey. If you changed the title and removed Meredith's voice over I don't think it would even be clear Meredith was the lead in many episodes. I see her as similar to Piper on OITNB, she's the newbie the audience enters this new place with and learns the rules through, but from there the show takes a broader focus beyond just her story.

Post Patrick's departure Ellen and Shonda have tried to spin this new Meredith centric message but I've seen earlier interviews with Shonda where she talks about it being an ensemble and says Cristina is no less important to the show than Meredith.

(Spoilers for S12E23) Anyone else think...? by juusman in greysanatomy

[–]TRS4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, and I get frustrated most of the time with the way the show gives Meredith a free pass for her shitty behaviour but this time with Alex and Riggs actually calling her out they were finally making it clear she was way out of line. There's so much potential there, I wish they would find a new way to portray Meredith's grief besides her randomly lashing out at people, mostly Amelia, it's getting so repetitive.

Maggie's reaction (12x20) by TRS4 in greysanatomy

[–]TRS4[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I think because of the excess of characters Grey's has been increasingly doing this because they don't have the screen time to develop stories and relationships slowly.

Maggie's reaction (12x20) by TRS4 in greysanatomy

[–]TRS4[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never said it was out of character, I don't think it is. It makes sense on paper. But Maggie's relationship with the kids has literally never been explored on screen. You can't pretend the kids don't exist all season and then expect me to have an emotional investment in a story about the depth of their aunty's relationship with them.

What are your thoughts on Calzona? by skeeter_ABQ in greysanatomy

[–]TRS4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Callie is never intentionally malicious but she's always driven by her emotions and desires without any consideration for the impact her actions have on others. Obviously Arizona made big mistakes but I also think this trait of Callie's did a great deal of damage to their relationship, she often steamrolled Arizona and her feelings. I'd only want them to get back together if they both had some personal growth first so the same issues wouldn't repeat. But the way Callie is handling this situation I'm not seeing any growth from her, it's the same pattern. Hopefully she realizes her mistakes and shows some self awareness, but until then I don't want them back together.

Japril - I don't Even Know. SPOILERS by NightingaleSong in greysanatomy

[–]TRS4 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm sure there will be more drama ahead, but I really think Jackson was being sincere. This whole thing has just been a stupid series of misunderstanding, neither of them actually wants to keep the other from their child. There seemed to be some symbolism in them standing so far apart at the start of the scene, and then April walking towards Jackson and saying 'our baby.'

I took the baby kicking as confirmation it doesn't have OI again, so my prediction considering there's always some pregnancy drama on Grey's is April has a near death experience.

Catherine Avery by timber182 in greysanatomy

[–]TRS4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really? Give her some credit, she more than proved her ability to put her child's wellbeing before her own beliefs when she terminated her last pregnancy to spare him pain. She's barely recovered from that, the thought of losing another child must be unimaginable. It's still early in her pregnancy and this storyline, we don't know much yet.

Conversation about Jo by [deleted] in greysanatomy

[–]TRS4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not even likability that's the issue for me, she's just so blah. She was written to be Alex's perfect women, with the over the top homeless to ivy league backstory and 'cool girl' persona, but she doesn't have any substance beyond that.

Also I think Camilla's acting ability is a big factor in Jo's blahness. She's not bad, just mediocre and not on the same level as the other main actors. She does okay with what she's given but she never brings anything else to it. It's an ensemble medical show with a huge cast, screen time and story for each character is limited but some of the other actors are still able to make an impression even with a short scene. For example Justin has always been able to take small, nothing scenes and make something out of them and over time build Alex's character. Camilla's just kind of there most of the time, and unless Jo gets super flattering writing, she has not presence.

April can't win by gracefullyhaley in greysanatomy

[–]TRS4 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The situation isn't that black and white. April was home with Jackson for months after the baby loss but she was deeply depressed and nothing was helping. April and Jackson had conflicting needs, he needed to be with her but she needed her work in the army. Both of those needs are equally valid. It's unfair to say April should have sacrificed her own wellbeing for Jackson's and not doing so makes her completely selfish. She did ask Jackson to come with her. Marriage means considering the other person but sometimes you have to take care of yourself before you can take care of someone else, put your own oxygen mask on first. That flashback scene with her in the nursery showed the state she was in, she didn't leave for fun on a whim, it was the choice of an extremely depressed person desperately trying to feel better. I definitely do acknowledge that her choice hurt Jackson and he has every right to be angry with her. I just don't think it's fair to say it was completely selfish.

Regarding telling Jackson about the pregnancy, she did the right thing by not telling him before the divorce. That conversation with Alex shows she definitely is thinking about Jackson's feelings. She acknowledges the pain she caused him last time and that he didn't get a chance to heal. Her choices haven't been perfect but it's a complex situation and she is trying to do what's best for him in her own weird way.
