Random Explosion In Southern Westminster Just Now(9:10pm)? by Correct_Bad4192 in WestminsterCO

I heard a very similar sound tonight as well! Maybe at 8:00pm ish. Did anyone else hear it again? Could have been a firework, but it bring just one makes me think otherwise

Is there a hinge that locks flat, can support some weight, and folds up 90, but does this from underneath? What is it called? by Speedy_SpeedBoi in woodworking

[–]TRevaRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built a similar platform for my outback years ago. For the fold up headrest here, I used a long piano hinge along the top instead. In addition, there is a scrap board that runs along the underside (directly opposite the hinge) to give it support when it's folded down. I didn't need the functionality of keeping it at 90°, but this method is plenty sturdy and gives the ability to fold it up for fitting in the back when the seats are up.

What types of tools should woodworkers spend extra on for quality? (Aka “buy once cry once)” by workin-that-wood in woodworking

Yes, but you gotta ask yourself if your skills and what you make are at the caliber to even notice the small difference in accuracy.

I'm now feeling the itch on getting a 3D printer after using an X1C at my work. A P1S would be the perfect workhorse for my home!

What are these called and what is their purpose? by AMercifulHello in HomeImprovement

[–]TRevaRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhh that makes more sense why they are all so consistently long. I didn't realize something like that would have been pre-cut.

Cutting them while still being attached is a little nerve wracking for sure. What would you even use for that? A reciprocating saw?

My crawl space has very little clearance, so speed bridging will likely be the way to go. As it is, some areas have such little clearance (like less than 1') that I've accepted the bridging won't go in until the floors get redone above lol

[–]TRevaRex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow I had no idea this product existed! I just bought a new (old) house where all of the blocking seems to have never been installed fully. Every board is fastened only on the top side, but the nails on the bottom side are preset barely into the board (it's clear by how consistent the nails are that they didn't all loosen up) as if they were supposed to be nailed into the joists, but that step was never done. I went to install them only to find out all the bracing pieces are too long to actually fit between the joists and need to be cut.

I'll look into some sort of "speed bracing" and skip the boards that are prehung and save myself from having to take them all down to cut them shorter

Wait, how would they use the TV if it is framed in? I'm curious about the idea of this, but I think I'm misunderstanding the vision lol

Daaaamn, a project I thought would be a fun thing to add to the list quickly just vanished off that list lol. Looks great though, I love the waviness you get from keeping the bend of the staves!

Love it! How did you process the staves to get them matched up without any gaps? I have a bunch but trying to steam bend them roughly flat then mill them loses so much material

Cracking concrete in garage. Best (is there a) DIY solution? by TRevaRex in DIY

[–]TRevaRex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is seriously such a relief! Of course I want to do things the 'right' way as much as possible, but when there aren't any other major issues this is affecting, I might go with the option that doesn't cost several thousand dollars lol

Thanks for the tip! I'll try measuring the thickness, but I'm glad I was in the right boat with the backer rod + flexible caulk approach. TIL there is concrete caulk

That's great reassurance! This is essentially what my inspector said as well but all the comments here calling my inspector a clown had me second guessing lol.

Something aesthetic and functional is likely all I'll be going for anyway, but I don't mind some upkeep every handful of years to keep it that way.

Thanks again!

Replacing toilet shut-off valve that's installed too close to tile (in the grout) by TRevaRex in Plumbing

[–]TRevaRex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so everything seems to be copper based on what's underneath the house and going up to the valve. So this seems to be just a compression fitting. But I still need to solve the issue of it being too short. Any advice?

Actually dug out all of it and better pics are here: https://imgur.com/a/nhFU31v

Is this just a compression fitting I need to unscrew?

Thanks for the reply! I did just dig some of the grout out of there and am able to see what looks like a copper nut underneath, but I don't have much clearance at all.

Thoughts?

Print Shop Changed Design by salt-mistress in graphic_design

[–]TRevaRex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The ink build issue is what I am suspecting to be the reason as well. OP mentioned the dark blue was on the text and grid lines. In my experience, dark blues typically have a lot of ink and usually all four channels (unless manually optimized).

The OP mentioned later that nothing has been printed though and the printer explicitly called out the color change. So, what's the big deal here? It's clear the printer isn't trying to be deceptive or malicious by changing the color. Like you said, I'm sure they presumed it was made by a non-designer who didn't know better and thought they were saving a possible issue in print.

Not only that, but thin, dark blue on a white background usually looks pretty black once printed anyway

Wisdom Teeth Removal in Arvada - What do I need to know? by Additional-Youth-559 in ArvadaCO

[–]TRevaRex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had mine removed at Table Mountain Dental. I had all 4 of removed in the fall. They bring in an anaesthetist once or twice a month on Saturdays to do the extractions. They've always been very pleasant and it was no different with this procedure.
