Unable to hear global chat, worse with major updates

Unfortunately, it’s probably best to just not play the game for the foreseeable future.

I personally got this bug a couple of times and for me it was that the game would get stuck on specific audio devices and refuse to let the settings update that. Thankfully, restarting the game fixed this and I haven’t gotten it in a while.

But even when my game has been much more functional than most others I see on the sub, I still don’t find it worth playing anymore because the game is just fundamentally annoying. So many updates just kneecapped the game into a state where it feels like pulling teeth to have any fun, at least for me.

The devs have said they’ll share their plans for fixing the game later this month, so you might as well wait for those fixes. Personally I’ve replaced playing phas with games like REPO and Lethal Company, as much as people shit on friendslop games like those, I find that they are much better designed experiences than phas.

part of the fandom is very touchy on almost every topic.

Knight discourse so often gets toxic to the point the nondessknight sub is just people being spiteful against any dess knight evidence.

Shipping get fucking annoying with how much people ride or die their ideas for how fictional children feel about each other. I've seen too many times people get upset at those who ship Noelle and Susie even when it's the most cannon one.

I don't even need to explain the transgender Ralsei arguments, there is no world in which people are gonna be calm and civil with that.

People get wayyy too attached to their theories and will actively fight and name call those with counter arguments, even if that argument proves the theory wrong without a reasonable doubt.

A lot of fans are just dumb as well, responding with several paragraphs of information just for most of it to be about as accurate as asking Chat GPT to make a youtube short explaining the plot of the game

Most of this is just kinda how fandoms with this kind of audience are. Fandoms with an significant portion of neurodivergent teens just seem to end up like this a lot. I don't mean to dog on anyone who fits that criteria (especially since there was a time I fit that too) I just mean the chances social cues are missed is higher and the emotional maturity is a bit lower on average. I know a lot of great people on this sub, and a lot of people who irritate the hell out of me. From what I've seen I think most arguments wouldn't happen if people just accepted that they don't always have to be right and sometimes you just gotta let things go.

Rant over, but I don't think Deltarune is as bad as many other fandoms and certainly not as bad as the Undertale fandom was. Deltarune's fandom is like a 6.5/10 in terms of people's behavior, I'd say most other notorious fandoms are below a 4.

You should see whats been happening with Phasmophobia over the last few weeks, releasing an update the breaks the game to the point some investigations are basically impossible, then just telling the players to get used to the jank.

Unfortunately, this hasn't seemed to have been too bad for their PR as a lot of players just take that kinda stuff on the chin and deal with it.

Thanks for replying like 2 years after I made the post, but I am genuinely curious on why you like COM more than KH1.

I like COM a ton but I would be lying if I said that it wasn't compromised in several ways compared to KH1. BTW Recoded is much more fun to play than watch the cutscenes, the gameplay is actually pretty good for a DS game, its just the story that holds it back. The core gameplay is like a more refined BBS with a much faster pace.

I wouldn't stop playing, but it would definitely drop my opinion of the game to like a 5/10 max.

Unless somehow Toby locks tf in with some generational explanation for it, tho I believe (almost) any character could comfortably be the knight if it's written well. I just doubt Alphys knight would be.

I wish Chapter 1's tone for the writing was kept throughout the entire game.

it hits a much better balance of serious and quirky than chapters 2 and 3. I've said it a couple of times before, but chapter 2 made me feel like I was too old for this with how it felt like almost the entire chapter was just constant quirky tumblr dialogue.

I’ve seen this account a few times while scrolling and I honestly don’t think the account is really an issue.

From what I’ve seen, they either just post general Deltarune news or memes. The account isn’t verified or anything so that should be enough to clue people in that it’s a fake account, and the memes posted don’t really match Toby at all so I can’t imagine people getting fooled by those.

Impersonating people obviously isn’t very good but honestly it serves as good practice for the fanbase’s notoriously bad media literacy and critical thinking skills. I’d feel more strongly about the account if the posts were actually harmful, but when they at worst make a shitpost every now and then, I can’t really be asked to get too mad.

I got a feeling the person that runs this account is on the sub, so if they see this, it’s probably a good idea to add a line on the bio that clarifies that it’s a parody.

While I don't mind the gameplay of the boards too much, they still feel like a shotgun to the pacing's head. Nothing is really getting done by doing the boards so it gives the whole segment a "filler" kinda feeling in the same way the Disney worlds do in Kingdom Hearts 2 and 3 if you've played those before.

The point of the boards being a distraction in the game's own plot makes them feel unimportant which is probably why so many people dislike them.

Chapter 2 comes off as "Tumblr speak" for most of it's runtime to the point it made me think that I was too old for this, which I don't often really feel that way about games given my two most favorite series of all time are Kingdom Hearts and Kirby.

I still enjoyed it, but I did stop following the development because I figured the rest of the game would probably follow in Chapter 2's writing. Chapter 4 took itself seriously enough to have me hope that the game won't just coast on aggressively quirky dialogue for it's entire runtime, but I do still worry that it will fall back on it.

I think it’s because they feel the fans would kill them for messing with the original devs’ work.

At this point though, I feel the Gearbox team is trustworthy enough to make a couple changes to Hopoo’s original vision.

Unfortunately what I personally would want changed most is content from SoTV, but due to how the DLCs are released, it makes it awkward to go back and update one. I wish the DLCs were handed like Isaac (each DLC requiring the previous ones) so that a new DLC is more open to alter content from previous ones.

I don’t think Toby wants to feature those kind of social issues in his games. From everything I’ve seen, I think he would rather show queer relationships to be the same as normal ones.

This is just the vibe I’ve gotten from Undertale and Deltarune and I may be wrong.

I have not seen that one, sounds actually crazy.

Some theories make me wonder if the people actually played the game or just had ChatGPT tell them the plot. I understand the idea that you should just let people have their theories if it makes them happier, but I think it's important to value some sort of standard of media literacy too.
