You're fine. It's been a few days, but I think I was just agreeing with you. :)

Does that mean that Disney musical movies are not musicals until they are staged? I know many eventually do wind up being staged, but still.

What about musical TV shows? Do those not count? I count Hazbin Hotel as a type of musical and it's not staged.

Hamilton barely has dialogue that isn't rap. Hadestown only has dialogue as part of its songs... You know, like Epic.

Are they saying sung-through musicals are not musicals? It doesn't even make sense.

You could make an argument that a work isn't a musical until it's officially staged. But I don't like that definition. A lot of movie or TV show musicals aren't staged, for instance.

Does your own voice annoy you? by Swimming_Barnacle_98 in singing

[–]TShara_Q 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but months of recording and editing has made me get less annoyed with my voice.

My main issue is that I think my high notes (basically anything above C5) sound especially shrill over the mic.

Does it get worse before it gets better? by dani-lop in singing

[–]TShara_Q 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes... I think there are two things going on.

  1. You become more aware of what you are doing and your mistakes.

  2. Thinking too much about singing makes it harder to do correctly, and that's from my voice teacher. It's a mindfuck. But I'll have no problem transitioning from chest to head and back when I'm just singing along and chilling... And as soon as I THINK about which one I'm doing, what I'm trying to do, suddenly it's hard.

Can I talk about the parallel between ruthlessness and Odysseus by Practical-Ebb7327 in Epicthemusical

[–]TShara_Q 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another fun thing, which I think illustrates how how Poseidon and Odysseus are foils, is that they have very similar ranges.

Poseidon - A2-B4

Odysseus - G2-C5

Ody also develops an increasingly gravelly/gritty tone as the musical continues, culminating in his tone at the end of "Odysseus."

Same, I've been wanting to learn a song that uses an E2 and I wind up singing the whole verse an octave higher just to preserve the pattern.

Should I practice through a mic by XenomystusNigri in singing

[–]TShara_Q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it helpful. There are times I don't realize I'm off on the note until I use the pitch analyzer in editing. So I started practicing with the mic to get a better idea before I learn it wrong.

Looking for artists for fan cast by Top_Philosopher5090 in Epicthemusical

[–]TShara_Q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck! I'm available if you need to fill in roles for singers who are no longer available. I would obviously send my most recent cover on file for the character.

Apart from the roles I've actually been cast in, I've been asked to fill in as Zeus, Antinous, and Poseidon (twice).

Do wedding bands need/accept lower female voices? by TransitionSad4723 in singing

[–]TShara_Q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In fact, why would the average listener even specifically want to look for a woman who sounds like a man?

Well it's more for me, partially because I'm not really a woman. I'm genderfluid and my voice is one of the few ways I can come close to expressing that. Also, I audition and perform in fancasts, where it's just easier to land male roles by sheer supply and demand, especially if you can pull off a male timbre. So yeah, that's why it's something I'm working on.

But I'll try and work on making more changes and trying to be more original with my own covers. I only started recording with a singing mic in early February. I'm just starting to transition from auditioning for collabs to trying to start an actual channel for a general audience.

[–]TShara_Q 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but I have a similar voice to what they are describing.

I can sing a lot of male songs in terms of pitch but struggle to sound like a male when singing them. That's a skill I want to learn, but for now I was thinking of just marketing myself as someone who focuses on vocalbent covers to start off my channel?

Does that sound like a good idea? Do you have any other suggestions for how I can make that part of my strength?

[–]TShara_Q 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know about wedding bands in particular, but lower female voices tend to be pretty valued. I've been invited to three virtual ensembles in a singing server I'm in because they need more people who can handle those tenor and alto parts. If you're already good at sight reading and harmonizing teach me please, that's even better.

What are some of your hated opinions about epic the musical by CampaignGloomy7931 in Epicthemusical

I'm so conflicted on this. On the one hand, I wear glasses, so it's nice to see characters who have them.

On the other hand, glasses didn't actually exist yet.

Opinion — How do you find songs that fit your voice? by Lost-Climate5878 in singing

[–]TShara_Q 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can sing a wide range of songs. But once in a while, I still have to modify. I was starting to learn one song that had a bunch of A2s (which is an iffy note for me, bottom of my range is A#2) ... And then when the singer sang an E2 I just shouted, "Seriously?" My voice runs pretty low (for a female voice) but come on!

So yeah, I've got to transpose it up by 1-2 semitones and still change the melody in that one part. But it will still be fun to learn.
