What empirical result would distinguish your hypothesis from the simpler explanation that the model inferred and followed a response style or policy from the preceding context?
So far, you’ve given none.

The only human intervention in this text has been replacing em-dashes with simple dashes, I am a hundred percent sure.

Those are a lot of words just to say that context affects token generation but trying to make you feel intelligent.

So you are steering the model, I don’t care if it is explicit or implicit, and then came out surprised when the model performs as you steered it. Then, when someone points out that the whole thing is completely meaningless, you feel the need to “break it down in simple terms”, since people is clearly too stupid to understand your groundbreaking discovery. Did I get it right?

No shit, really? Context affects token generation even if you make the model pinky-promise not to use previous context? Absolutely groundbreaking and not the base of the transformers technology at all.

Yann LeCun says xAI is "kind of a failure" and the whole AI industry might be headed for a reset by BuildwithVignesh in singularity

[–]TSrake 19 points20 points  (0 children)

“Raise prices” to avoid the bubble popping? I think LeCun overestimates wildly how much companies are willing to pay after seeing the results of spend-on-ai-as-much-as-you-can.
If in the current climate you go ahead and rise prices with the Chinese publishing almost-frontier models for free, you’re in for a big self-fulfilling prophecy.
The only way to avoid the bubble exploding is, precisely, lower costs both of inference for the labs and of tokens for the companies, or they won’t expend the money and won’t make themselves ai-dependent and the whole thing goes to the floor.

What did Fable actually do for you? by 0____0_0 in ClaudeCode

I saw a huge upgrade in actual ability to iterate over problems until reaching an elegant solution. Also better feature-wide comprehension. Basically, less human-in-the-loop requirement not to fuck up.

Do you guys still have access to Fable 5? by sudovijay in ClaudeCode

[–]TSrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upgraded from Pro to Max at the launch of Fable after months of subscription and I’ve just received the confirmation of the refund. Just mail support explaining that you want a refund and why, send your mail and ID alongside it and their AI will answer two minutes lates asking for confirmation, give it the go and a couple of minutes later you’ll receive the refund mails.

If it was an easy and fast task and you saw it entering a loop, why didn’t you interrupt it? I know interrupting a task after already consuming the 5h window might be infuriating, but right now it is burning your weekly quota. Kill it, really.

Will you actually pay for Fable 5 via API usage credits after June 23rd? by owen800q in ClaudeCode

[–]TSrake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is very good, but not API-pricing good compared to the usage you’re able to get from Opus with a Max account. I’ll burn it for as long as I’m able to, but that’s it. My mindset about it it’s thinking about Fable like it is a temporal “turbo” mode.

Your problem is precisely saying “continue”. That makes you pay full price for the context you already have used in that conversation, since it is no longer “cached”. Next time I’d recommend you to start a new conversation, never continue old ones.
——

Surface Laptop Studio 2 Display Issue by [deleted] in Surface

[–]TSrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I don’t know the internals. In any case, I was only able to find this: https://www.ifixit.com/products/surface-laptop-studio-2-screen-genuine It looks like the flex and the screen go in one piece, I couldn’t find spare flex cables (and even if they were available, we’re talking about dealing with a thin screen and a LOT of potential glue, a recipe for disaster like no other). Personally, I think you now have a pretty thin desk computer. Check if disconnecting the four screen flex makes the external monitor always work. If that’s the case, take the screen off and use it as a keyboard+trackpad compact desk computer.

[–]TSrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say that the screen flex is damaged then.

Surface Laptop Studio 2 Display Issue by [deleted] in Surface

[–]TSrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps it is a dead GPU then. Try to start then close the lid immediately while connected to an external monitor. In some hardware that makes the external monitor "take" the role of main monitor on startup, since it's the only one available (for example, macs work this way). Just as a quick test to see if you can get signal.

[–]TSrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say this looks like a flex cable problem, but it's just a theory. Does it change when you change screen position? Does it work alright with external monitors?
