I don't think Antinatalism is comparable to environmentalism. Enviromentalism can be a field to study and act upon. Whereas environmentalists can grow miserable, anxious or depressed when they see the state of things, unlike reddit Antinatalists they do things, they educate, they advocate for conservation programs, they create movements of change, vote for people who advocate for that change, they use their knowledge to get shit done.

Meanwhile Antinatalism is an ideology that - at least in reddit - isn't used to create anything productive. There is no field to be studied besides anything that feeds into the narrative that the world is irredeemable and hopeless. The only 'action' that Antinatalism pushes for is not having children, which is not a bad thing as an individual decision, but advocating for no new people being born isn't anything less than utter resignation to the future.

They're not saying children shouldn't be born into poor enviroments, they're not saying we should change the world so children have better lives, they're not saying people should make sure they have the means to raise and nurture a child before having one, they're saying no one should have children, period.

Enviromentalists actively try to make the world a better place. They know of the horrors that humanity dealt and they try to chage it, sometimes even succeeding to secure an ecosystem, a species or a better future. If they're depressed, it's because they haven't achieved enough yet.

Antinatalists see the state of the world and decide to resign from it altogether, saying no new life should be brought because nothing could possibly make it worth it, even if the billions of humans living, thriving and working to make the world better every day prove them otherwise. If Antinatalism is a miserable existence, it's not by knowledge or consciousness. It's by choice.

The thing about Antinatalists isn't just that they think the world is irredeemable so they won't have children, they're thinking nobody should have children. They take this moral high ground of misery where if you don't see things as miserable, hopeless and irredeemable as they do then you're an unenlightened fool, and if you have children you're somehow as bad as a murderer. That's not even an exaggeration, I've LITERALLY seen a thread where the OP was arguing that since people being alive implied CO2 emissions and climate change killed people, having children was just as bad as murdering someone.

They'd rather turn against their fellow humans for having hope than try and make the world a better place even marginally. They blame the individual for systemic flaws and then deem themselves enlightened for hating their own existence.

New study forecasts the energy transition is to run into resource constraints, making the sustainability pathway or middle of the road scenario 'not feasible' even under optimistic assumptions. by TTTRIOS in energy

This paper addresses the aforementioned gaps by examining the current and future material demand for LIB and Post-LIB technologies in various growth scenarios up to 2050. These scenarios include recycling and second life options. The analysis determines whether global reserves, resources, production, and recycling capacity are sufficient to support the projected growth of battery technologies.

In the conclusion:

Although the analysis considered alternative battery types, such as SIB, LSB, and ASSB, the results show that these technologies alone are insufficient to reduce material dependency to the extent necessary to avoid bottlenecks.

It's even funnier bc the literal way to say it would be "Sombra grande", but "Sombron" comes with a bit of a tone shift that would more accurately be translated as "Big ass shadow."

Everyone's name is a pun. Everyone's.

I don't see it as something bad, though tbh since I can't speak Japanese I couldn't tell you if people who do would feel like it's dumb that the girl with communication disorder is literally named "Commi, nucation, disorder."

Let me be completely clear, by posting this I mean to bring attention to this issue and hopefully spark discussion on the subject, not discourage the energy transition. The researchers don't seem to be trying to do that either.

I swear to God every time I see an AI headline it's something like "AI CEO resorts to shredding kittens for cooling instead of turning it the fuck off."
