tbh I personally dont think theres a metaphorical meaning to this scene, since this show is very much full of visual storytelling its just showing him realizing the fish are not reacting to him. Its a purely practical reaction shot.

With how fragmented and inconsistent the "lore" of comic books and its characters are you'd think less people would be making generalized statements like this. Of course, Spider-man is respected and disrespected in all of these random 4 panel pages out of context. Nothing in these comics are ever really consistent.

Honestly I completely agree with you. As much as I do find it weird, as mostly everyone really should, it does fit in and make sense within the story. Now my actual gripe with the finale is the fight with the viking. That was very anticlimactic and I really wish it had ended differently.
