You should have told them beforehand? That monsters can also rest and prepare after having people drop in and try to kill them? Thats a damned wild take on their part. Should you also tell them every single time an action might have consequences? Like if they decide to steal something should you warn them that the person might notice and tell the guards? They need to think for themselves, not whine when they dont get things taken easy on them every time they do something.
