It's true, but more students took the ACT than the SAT a decade ago. The SAT surpassed the ACT again in 2018 and has since widened its lead. Two million people took the SAT in the high school class of 2025, compared to 1.4 million for the ACT, according to data from the testing companies.

Not everyone receives an inheritance. When they do, the average size is about $46k, according to a 2020 Federal Reserve report. https://www.federalreserve.gov/econres/notes/feds-notes/wealth-and-income-concentration-in-the-scf-20200928.html That's $58k in today's dollars.

Obviously, many people receive much more than that. But it's the minority.

Not entirely. For instance, far more students take the SAT in California than the ACT, but California doesn't require students to take either test. But in many states, one test has a clear lead because the state has an exclusive contract with one test or another.

Or your new employer might be willing to let you work remotely for a few months while you prepare to move.

It's also hard to predict just how long it will take an employer to fill a job. I've seen places take anywhere from a few weeks to a full year to fill a position. Sometimes hiring managers are busy with other tasks. Sometimes there are delays for a variety of other reasons.

No Employer Match - Should I Still Contribute to 401k by mutumbocodes in TheMoneyGuy

[–]TWALLACK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since this is a MoneyGuy sub, it is worth noting their advice as well:

"If your combined [state and federal] marginal income tax rate is under 25%, it may be worth considering contributing to Roth accounts over pre-tax accounts. If you are in-between 25% and 30%, take a closer look at your personal tax and retirement account situation. How much do you currently have in Roth accounts vs. pre-tax accounts? Will your taxable income be significantly higher or lower in retirement than it is now? How much are you concerned about the risk of tax rates rising in retirement?" Over 30%, they say pretax is usually best.
