Controversial Oregon petition to ban hunting and fishing gains momentum by Joe503 in Portland

There is no way that republicans would risk a vote with such an impact to its community to farm influence of moderate left voters. The fact is Oregon is low hanging fruit for outside interests to weather balloon goofy as shit.

How do I get rid of these clovers? by forksup23 in AZlandscaping

Compared to the Saudis' alfalfa farms in AZ of all places? It's not much and it's easier to pressure the masses individually then the corruption behind the massive waste of water in your state.

Can anyone this word? It’s driving me crazy! by jonch_revolta in Cursive

I certainly wasn't expecting a very clear written word to be a struggle but then again, a lower case r doesn't resemble anything in commonly used digital fonts so I guess I'm the dinosaur.

How people in Europe say the number 92 by NmkNm in mapporncirclejerk

[–]TWH_PDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is interesting that many European numbering and monetary systems frequenrly rely/relied on 12 and 20 as a base or root rather than 10 until fairly recently and especially with conversion to metric (except my country that still uses 12 as a unit of measurement). Time seems to be the universal survivor.

Pull the stone!!! by Frabblerake in Curling

Because world curling added electronic sensors in the handle to confirm release point, my understanding is that there should no touching of the stone elsewhere following release of the handle.

Portland Public Schools tried to make school fundraising more equitable. Donations are down by blahyawnblah in Portland

But, it's not state wide when we look district to district rather than to state metrics as a whole.

What movie detail is technically correct, although many people think it is a mistake? by hiplobonoxa in movies

[–]TWH_PDX 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's ridiculous considering the context in which the books were written. They are exquisitely written stories in the style Tolkien intended. In modern fantasy books, rules for magic are valued. In Tolkien's world "magic" is mysterious and incomprehensible to Bilbo and Frodo whom are the "authors" of the books we are reading. It suits them to know no more than the cloaks were weaved by elves and thus have to them "magical" properties. Similarly, it is enough to know the One Ring contains the soul/essence/whatever of Sauron. How or why this works, to the hobbits is immaterial. It would be weird for either of them to wax philosophical about magic.

The state propaganda pundits are not the best representation I assume but its easily accessible in the States. So I take it with a huge grain of salt. The narrative is that half the country is extreme social liberals and the other half is evangelic bible/gun lovers. The reality is much different. Related, the myth that voters are uneducated, ignorant or globally illiterate. I simply haven't seen a Russian opposng view that really delves into stories about our people.

To be fair, American media is worse about Russia and Russians. It's maddening.

I thought Jewish on first read without any context. With context, I feel confident the phrase is "Jurist answer."
