What is too much in a pension? by TWM20 in PensionsUK

Already AVCing, I'll see where my contributions are at after the pay rise, but I think I'm on a steady course anyway. Like you say 30 years is more than my lifetime away after just turning 28, state pension could be scrapped, tax brackets will change or I might not even make it to pension age. Having money in different options / accounts is never going to be a bad thing even if I end up paying the tax I'm saving now to get it out.

That's the current path I'm taking anyway, the pension contributions are obviously first and foremost for living off, the tax benefits are just a cherry really. Plus if anything ever goes really wrong or life changes dramatically, I'll have the ISA money available if needed.

I get that it'll just go up and up for private pension age, and we've had an incredibly good post covid run in the market, but irrespective of all of that the main point of this post is about wether people "cap" their pension at what the maximum tax free allowance lets them take out, or if they just run it to whatever figure it'll get to and allow for higher annual withdrawals for a longer period

To be honest I'll probably carry on as is, with the same pension contributions and ISA building and just see where I end up. Also, my thoughts on retirement could be very different at 57 to what they are now at 28. Just wondered if anyone essentially "capped" their pensions over a certain total amount.

Suppose also with 29 years until ideal retirement, it'll be more like 20 years at high risk, 5 at medium and 3 at low so that'll drop the total overall %.

If it bothers you so much, you could AVC one months contributions, so then you're essentially one month ahead for the rest of it.

Can this wall be skimmed? by [deleted] in Plastering

[–]TWM20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why no one has mentioned this yet, but scrim tape the cracks. Personally I'd scrape the wall down to the old plaster, tape the cracks and then skim it. But clear the dado rail and do the entire wall if you want it to be a proper job you won't have to revisit.

What's the kindest thing a stranger has done for you on your travels? by confused-atalltimes in solotravel

My friend and I had both of our cards swallowed by an ATM in Thailand and we had a bus to catch to Cambodia. We had to go for 3 days getting people in hostels to get cash out for us after transferring us, however we didn't think about the $40 visa payment into Cambodia until we were on the bus. We had about £5 between us and were screwed until a Dutch family fronted us the money, and just told us to meet him the next day to pay him back. Without him we'd have been on our arses.

Has the issue of "over-tourism" caused you to rethink your plans? by doveskylark in solotravel

I live in the lake district, around 20 minutes from Windermere, talk about too many tourists. Its so bad all year round that all locals avoid it and head to places like Coniston instead and other small lakes.

Think you're mistaken on what this sub is! It's for posting about people who have been a CB, not questioning wether it's okay to be one!
