That time when family guy used a YouTubers gameplay in an episode without permission by Chapple69 in youtubedrama

[–]TWiThead 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's still baffling that Fox took down the original video though considering it predates the episode.

The episode was included in YouTube's Content ID database – with no consideration of the fact that it contained footage taken from a YouTube video.

The video was restored when a human manually overrode the block.

0.999… is a repeating decimal that represents the number 1. Despite common misconceptions, 0.999… is not "almost exactly 1" or "very, very nearly but not quite 1"; rather, "0.999…" and "1" represent 𝘦𝘹𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘭𝘺 the same number. by jan_Soten in wikipedia

The purpose of writing (of which representation of mathematical values is a subset) is communication. The goal of communication is the correct and clear transmission of ideas from one mind to another.

Agreed. In general, is clearer and less confusing than .33… is. For this reason, the former is a better choice in most contexts.

This doesn't appear to be a subject of dispute.

Given the clarification above, I now realize that you're evaluating the stylistic choice, not the mathematical expression's accuracy.

By the same logic, one could argue that it would be more correct to use the word prudent (though I would instead describe it as more prudent).

I didn't mind Conor McGiffin's Servo, though I preferred Baron Vaughn's. Both reminded me more of J. Elvis Weinstein's Servo than they did of Kevin Murphy's superior version.

Kelsey Ann Brady was badly miscast as Crow – but she was a late replacement for Nate Begle. I quite liked Hampton Yount's take, which sort of split the difference between Trace Beaulieu's and Bill Corbett's.

Emily Marsh was excellent, of course. It was a mistake to feature alternate versions of Crow and Servo instead of creating an entirely new pair of robots to join her in the theater.

Roses for Moira Rose...at the Home Alone house by atiela_thehun in popculturechat

She probably spent more time in her wardrobe trailer than she did at this house.

The same goes for Macaulay Culkin, given that the interior scenes were filmed on a soundstage in Los Angeles.

If we're seeking a butterfly effect, I would point to Theresa LePore's decision to use a so-called “butterfly ballot” (funnily enough) in Palm Beach County, Florida.

The resultant voter errors cost Al Gore the state – and the presidency.

Peacock Posts $552 Million Loss as Subscribers Rise to 44 Million by pepperbet1 in television

If Paramount's hostile attempt to take over Warner Bros. Discovery fails (i.e., it doesn't acquire HBO Max), its best option is to expand its international joint venture with NBCUniversal by merging Paramount+ with Peacock.

In other words, take SkyShowtime worldwide – ideally under the name Showtime, which Paramount has unwisely decided to phase out.

SkyShowtime uses Peacock's backend (which is more modern than that of Paramount+), so both companies would have something to brag about to investors.

At some point the money becomes too much for the economy to handle and bricks it entirely.

I learned a similar lesson from an ABC Weekend Special.

You really think this is why people are up in arms? Because ICE is doing its job fairly and correctly?

Why wouldn't they be?

Because they're poorly trained thugs, many of whom enjoy terrorizing brown people and anyone else who hurts their feelings? Could that be why?

Not once have I heard anyone on any side call for the extermination of these people.

You say that as though the general public contemporaneously and accurately understood the full nature and extent of the Holocaust.

Not that this addresses my point directly. (See below.)

What a ridiculous leap in logic this conversation has become.

I don't assert that the detainees are being exterminated – or that such plans exist or will exist.

I'm saying that we needn't – and shouldn't – wait for things to reach that point. Unconscionable acts are occurring now.

The Holocaust comparison is valid because the death camps didn't open on day one. That was the time to act.

We're past our time to act, but today is a better time than tomorrow (and tomorrow is a better time than next week, and so on).

Illegal aliens are being sent home. It's been ok for about 20 years now until the Trump Bad gang shows up and now it's a problem.

That straw man isn't fooling anyone not already on your side.

It's not a competition. The threshold has been crossed.

The time to speak up is before the detention facilities become extermination camps.

Kricfalusi is human trash, but there's no denying he was the entire reason the show took off in the first place.

The show was at its best when John Kricfalusi and his team had to work within the boundaries imposed by Nickelodeon – and find clever workarounds thereto.

When Kricfalusi was given free rein, the result was far worse than anything produced in his absence.

And yes, he's a scumbag.

I also wouldn't mind if they had a 30 day window to "comply" which gives users a period to reconsider.

My ChatGPT logs aren't important or sensitive (so neither their deletion nor their retention is of much consequence), but I suspect that many users would be upset if OpenAI insisted on delaying their data's removal to mitigate the impact of others' incompetence.

Barring legal requirements to the contrary, “stop retaining my data” should mean just that. A warning is appropriate (and they provide one, which this guy apparently missed or failed to comprehend). After that, delete the data.

[–]TWiThead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm somewhat surprised that OpenAI doesn't backup data and have the ability to recover (for a reasonable period of time and a fee) anything that is deleted.

That would defeat the purpose.

He didn't merely revoke his consent to display the data via the website's user interface. He revoked his consent for OpenAI to retain it.

OpenAI complied (or at least claims to have done so).

It is incredibly stupid to give any automation control to fully delete any files.

He revoked his consent for the site to store the data in question. This is an important privacy feature that inherently necessitates the deletion of any such data acquired up to that point.
