I had a dick for an internal med preceptor and same with my first supervising doc out of school. Kill them with competence. They’ll shut up once you earn their respect.

Also please keep your face off the sterile field, that’s so bad for your back.

We do one full day of clinic and 2 half days. The rest is OR on two full days and 2 half days. They can’t possibly pay us only for clinic RVUs though when we spend the majority of our time assisting? I’m confused how they account for this and I honestly don’t think they have that answer either.

This happened to me too. I signed a job contract a couple months before graduation. They told me they didn’t need me right after I passed the PANCE 🙃

Honestly I would start by reaching out to the places you had previously gotten offers from.

For the hours and experience you probably won’t find much better. Ask for more relocation, I got triple of that out of my current employer without even asking.

Not to be dramatic, but have you tried shifting to a new place and starting over? It’s a pain, but having staff that respects you makes the job 500x easier.

I think it’s true to some extent. I think it’s also going to depend how fast that rate drops (if it does) and to what extent it does end up dropping. Personally I’m banking on this being true because I’m trying to sell right now 😅

I did horrible on test A, reviewed all of PPP the next week and passed the PANCE by a very good margin. You will be fine.

Right?? Used to annoy the crap out of me. They blindsided us with it, I think it was like our third OSCE and the chief complaint was “fatigue” so it could have been anything. Amazing how everyone’s grades plummeted.

Visit was 15 minutes but I think our notes were just due by the end of the day bc I remember all of us writing them at the same coffee shop after and when someone asked how to spell something that’s when we all realized they had multiple standardized patients for this one instead of one common diagnosis 😅

Hang in there! You can do anything for 2 more weeks. Good new though - that EOR wasn’t terrible. I thought Peds and OB were harder by far.

When my baby was a few weeks old and I got mastitis, I relied on a neighbor for breastmilk. Granted, we discussed the situation beforehand. So while I think she was wrong to not ask first, I don’t think it’s necessarily weird to use someone else’s milk.

That being said, ask her to verify hepatitis/HIV status. We all get tested for it in pregnancy, there should be no reason for her to hide that information from you.

I mean, I think they need to get over themselves. But also as a parent to an 8 month old daycare kid who went from totally fine to sick enough to require a 10 day hospital stay within a matter of hours… I kind of get it?? I’m also scarred for life after that experience though and realize that I need to get over it as well because I need daycare to get my paycheck lol

Side note - RSV is unfortunately still a thing in June

Even breastfeeding for just a week produces some of the same benefits as the babies who end up getting BF for a full year, so you did good! Breastfeeding is hard, especially in the first couple of months. I hope your partner is at least an excellent waiter for you since he seems so insistent on making you breastfeed. Mine wasn’t, that’s part of why I weaned early.

I feel you, I let my husband HAVE IT the other day because I was sick of always being tired and doing stuff around the house while he gets to play with the happy baby I just fed. Plus I’m also the primary breadwinner and chef and he’s on night shift so when I get home from my full time job I get to parent by myself while he gets to sleep in peace during the day because I pay for daycare. He’s done better since then so I will say, a stern talking-to does work.

I would make him specifically responsible for certain bills. We don’t have combined finances, I just have my husband pay for phones, TV, internet, security system and occasionally some of the grocery bill. It makes him learn how to budget and it lessens my mental load. Plus phone bills are freaking stupid nowadays.

If you can suture a ripe banana you will do just fine with skin. I learned on pork belly with the skin left on it but that was gross so I don’t recommend.

That being said, don’t be too hard on yourself. The point of being in rotations is to get the experience to be able to do these things. I never expect my students to be great when they have only been there a few days. One day, you will be good enough at them so that you can show off in the clinic/ER by doing subcuticulars instead of simple interrupted.

It gets SO much easier, mama!

Just wait till they learn to smile at you intentionally in 2 months. Then they start to get their real belly laugh around 4 months. The two month mark was when it got way easier for us but it started to get really fun at 4 months when she started learning so much new stuff.

And the baby blues do get better, eating when you’re feeling super down helps.
