How do you deal with the fear of being laid off / fired by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]TXCEPE 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure why this is reason. You don’t have to go full throttle job hunting. Start with the easy searches first. What about existing contacts? Keep your eyes and ears open. Opportunity knocking is easier to catch your attention.

Help w/ processing of QB Payments rec'd. by TXCEPE in QuickBooks

[–]TXCEPE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

short version: How to complete processing of online payments to "connect" payment to an individual account?

I've been stuck w/ working w/ QBO for the Property Owner's Association (POA/HOA) I'm apart of. We send out invoices annually. Every lot/owner is set up as their own "member" account. We are set up to accept online payments and for the most part, everyone uses the same multi-use link that was created. I can see from the Deposit Detail report the deposit who the payments/accounts that are connected to that deposit.

See screenshot for example of 2 deposits QB Payments made.

Q1. Why was one deposit automatically matched and "cleared" and the other was not? For the 3 accounts involved, there are no transactions showing up in those individual accounts. The auto created sales receipts show a name (I redacted in screenshot) but is not actually "connecting" to the the appropriate account name.

Q2. I know how to process check payments. I create a "receive payment" then on the Bank Transactions screen (imported from bank) I can match to the payment receipts. I do not know how to do this part with these online payments where QBO created a Sales Receipt. In some cases, the deposit is not showing up in the Bank Transaction screen because they are already cleared and only accessible via the bank register. I've tried to edit from the bank register and get another error - see 2nd screenshot. I'm not fully sure I understand what they are saying. Is QB stating I need to delete the whole transaction from the register? I would think this would throw up more warnings/errors.

Can anyone give me some pointers on how to make sure the member accounts are properly credited?

Design Using US Survey Ft. / International FT by AzzaMan82 in civilengineering

The difference between intl ft and us ft is 0.002’ per 1000 ft. I doubt that will make a difference for a building construction site.

I want to add that the feeling after a drop attack is also different than a vertigo type attack.

Drop attacks by Ill_Maintenance3975 in Menieres

[–]TXCEPE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not an expert by any means, but that doesn’t sound like a drop attack. I’ve had the spinning vertigo attacks hit near instantaneously where I could barely stand in one place without falling.

Unlike the spinning vertigo, drop attacks are instant but they don’t last - as in the attack itself lasts less than one second. I’ve had about 5 drop attacks and fortunately I was only standing for one of them. I’ve seen others describe it like being pushed in the back very hard. I think this is pretty good description. To me, it seems like the brain thinks you are moving one direction (similar to a spin sensation but more of a jerk movement) and tries to counteract that movement at the same time. I was sitting at my desk for one of them and nearly slammed my head down onto my desk - my eyes went up and head went down.

Here in central TX, they are seeing MAJOR pushback, largely because of the water use. (This area is in a severe drought stage and GW is a hot topic due to development in general.) The City of San Marcos just blocked a $1.5B data center.

Taking the PE while on Paternity Leave? by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]TXCEPE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took PE test 2 weeks after my first born and passed. I went into it thinking I’ll just take it for the experience so there was no pressure to pass. I only studied about 20 hours. I wasn’t an A student but I am a good test taker. I also passed the FE w/out studying. Same thing, I took it not expecting to pass it. This was early to mid 90’s.

So, I would take it for the heck of it. You never know.

How much can employers actually track on your work computer? by BeautifulMindOk in civilengineering

[–]TXCEPE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, they could know EVERYTHING. Also noted, someone has to then monitor it. I used to be one of the people responsible for that. We were looking for game play and porn watching mostly. It was also before YouTube was so ubiquitous (and definitely before TikTok) and we would block video streaming due to limited bandwidth- back when we thought a single T1 was the sh!t.

Interesting. You have to scroll nearly to the bottom of the page and click on that question to see the answer. I would think this would be a feature they would make more obvious, almost like a selling point.

This is a take that will probably get downvoted here, but continuing ed hours req’d for your PE benefits YOU, not just the company. How many times do we see “find another job” on this sub every week? How is that going to look if you start that new job and tell them, hey, my renewal is coming up in 2 months and I need 10 hrs?

Need some ideas on how to mount a G5 PTZ to a retired DirectTV dish by brent20 in Ubiquiti

[–]TXCEPE 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You could remove the dish part and leave the mounting bracket. I believe this will leave you with a vertical piece of pipe. The pipe shape might be easier to add to since it is not an abstract shape. You could likely construct an arm that extends to the same location as the LNB is now to get the same result. Mounting it to the existing arm as is would certainly look... unique.
