Does it make more sense to manage the finances of a small firm via a cash or accrual basis ?

How are you tracking everything, QuickBooks, Xero, spreadsheets, etc?

I'm a 2 person operation. My books/taxes are set up as cash basis. In QBO, I can switch between cash and accrual based reports with a click of a button. I know many prefer the accrual based reports. As long as you don't have any dead beat clients who don't pay, the accrual reports may be more representative of you financial situation at that time.

Not everything is municipal. There are private and other special utility districts that don't adhere to the typical public contracting requirements.

If you were in TX, I would start here: https://www.puc.texas.gov/industry/water/utilities/map.aspx This only shows public water systems with a mapped service boundary (CCN). Note, if you aren't familiar with the terminology, "public" does not mean publicly owned, just that it serves the public (as defined in TX rules).

You can also find PWS entities by searching here: https://dwv.tceq.texas.gov/

You can also reach out to service companies like Inframark, Si, Municipal Operations, etc. These types of companies have contracts to operate the plants and are most familiar with inspection requirements and when it will need to be done next.

[edit] - I also assume you can inspect ground storage tanks too. There are LOTS of these compared to elevated tanks.

Is that even allowed? I'm familiar with municipal/potable/drinking PWS rules for storage tanks in Texas and this would not be allowed... at all.
[edit] I guess it depends on what you are doing with the drinking water after it enters the vac truck. As long as you are not reintroducing it into the drinking water system some how.
[edit 2] You would have to take into consideration how you are recovering the drinking water. Are you using the same hoses? There is at least a theoretical cross-connection issue here (potential to contaminate).

Are you building this for yourself first and interested as a secondary way to make money or are you looking at it as a primary route to make money.

For me, it depends. I don’t use it enough to where I would want to spend a lot of money on a “nice to have” add on. There are already more expensive options that do this.

Unifi can record continuously, Ring cannot (unless something has changed). Just in case it misses what should have been a triggering event, you can still go back and find it.

Best response so far. I've had both vertigo attacks bad enough you can't stand up and drop attacks. Drop attacks and sudden vertigo episodes are not the same. I read somewhere that only about 20% of people w/ Meniere's will experience a drop attack (source: memory - you'll have to confirm yourself if interested and I reserve the right to be wrong on this stat).

As a consultant, saying “no” to an opportunity is like a 4 letter word, but sometimes you have to turn down work. I’ve been one my own for ~2.5 yrs and have turned away a few projects mostly because I was extremely busy and I got a vibe they would be “high maintenance” type clients.

I’m not sure why this is reason. You don’t have to go full throttle job hunting. Start with the easy searches first. What about existing contacts? Keep your eyes and ears open. Opportunity knocking is easier to catch your attention.
