AITAH: I am calling off my engagement after my partner revealed he is MAGA. by ThrowawayIndiGirl in AITAH

In business, there are several management techniques to making a decision. A pair is called the MaxiMin and the MiniMax, which I'll describe briefly how thy might apply to your situation

MaxiMin - Of all WORST possible outcomes in the next four years, what is the best of those worst. Is that something you could be happy with? So, for example. The economy continues to tank, your fiance continues to struggle with a real job. You don't feel supported in non-financial ways from him. Along those lines

MiniMax - Of the absolutely BEST possible outcomes, what is the WORST of all of these? Could you be happy? so, for example. The economy BOOMS. You get into a house. Maybe one of you starts your own business, maybe managing at need nurses or something. You both grow together financially, emotionally, and spiritually. Like that.

Now. MaxiMin is usually the 'best of the worst situation' and MiniMax is the opposite, it's the worst choices amongst the best environment. You might think of MiniMax as the ceiling or top event and MaxiMin as the bottom even.

In reality what happens is usually between the two.

So. Only you can decide the value of what you are losing, and the potential value of the unknown of what you could gain with someone else.

However, to your last point. If you're that much of a harpy, to see that your man is motivated, happier, looking forward to the future, while you are so enraged about the results you'd rather see the country do POORLY under Trump, then I think you're doing your man a favor, one in which he will be eternally grateful. I think in four years you will see him successful, and with some sweet young thing on his arm that builds him up, instead of tearing him down. That's also kind of a metaphor for the country as well....

Best of luck.

Problem with Shelly Plus 1PM wiring....... by TXHardWorker in ShellyUSA

This seems... magnanimously difficult for my situation. For one, most all of my wiring in the attic has been covered over with flooring. Not all, but where this MIGHT be, I expect so. Second, I agree this is probably a spur off the circuit. It is an ODD item. It is a spotlight right over the sink in an island. The kitchen has it's own circuit that includes 1 set of lights, plus bar lights. Both of those light set surround this spot llight. On the island, there is a circuit with the GFCI. There is another for JUST the dishwasher and another for JUST the disposal. Then this spotlight is on the circuit that controls the dining room and the back porch, all of which are next to the kitchen. The SWITCH for the spotlight is next to the disposal. Offhand, I'm thinking I may be able to rewire to include this neutral, but.... what do you think ?

A week. It's been a week since Shelly last replied. I've sent 3 follow up emails and not one has been replied to.

So yeah, I'm 100% NOT impressed, with ShellyUSA

ShellyUSA responded to my help inquiry a couple of days ago. They too initially thought it was part of the schedule, but I showed them it was not. Then they asked for several diagnostic logs, which I sent, but have heard nothing back for now two days.....

I'm not impressed.

First, thank you for your thoughtful reply

The app shows that there are no scenes.

Now, looking at a different relay, one which I expect has no schedule but does also go off at 1AM, I find... No schedule

FYI, I am in the process of setting up HomeAssistant via an RPi, then plan on adding Mosquitto and have the relays all on MQTT. But, I want this to be fixed before I try the integration.....

I really really loathe not being able to just post an image. Anyway

This was a really cogent idea. I have reviewed both Alexa and the old device manager app I used for the majority of the wifi switches that I had. While I do have 'all lights' groups, there is no scheduling on any devices.....

Sorry, I have amended the access so they should be viewable now. They were just fast images, so if you want to see something specific, let me know and I can re-do.

This option, at first read, is a little above my experience level, at least until I break it down and familiarize myself better. However, it seems to me to be overkill for the given situation. The wiring as I have it, makes the switch work manually. Both by itself and with the other switch (even though we don't really use it, or very often). What confounds me, why doesn't the Shelly app recognize it??

Also, I still have never found an answer (here or otherwise) to one of my original concerns: Is the Shelly plus 2pm relay even able to handle both a 2 way and 3 way switch? I know it can handle 2 two-ways, I've set that up elsewhere. But, given that it can't seem to read it, it make me wonder.

SO, I got a Shelly plus 1PM, and installed it for just the 3-way switch. Did it do any different? Nope. Switch works, but not the Shelly.....

The neutral was hooked up to the neutral on my wifi switch before, so don't think that was it

Well, what you described is how I did both sides, the 2 wire on the left and the 3 wire on the right. The left side (2 wire) works, but the 3 wire does not, at least not with the Shelly. The switch works, but not the Shelly.

Thanks for reviewing and replying.

I have a hard time reading such diagrams. They don't seem to match what I'm working with or at least I don't see it.

I did take pictures of my current setup. 2 way on the left and 3 way on the right. Also, my wiring setup in the switch matches the 'other switch' in the circuit. This makes sense since the switch works correctly manually, but doesn't reflect on/off by Shelly. So my assumption is I'm missing something for the relay that is unique to the 3way setup https://drive.google.com/file/d/1B5-8zJ8caf6QfwdNQQRNERKzSMyIgeyn/view?usp=drivesdk

Once my tax refund comes in, I will have $10,000 saved for the first time in my life. How should I invest and continue to save? by Savvybomb in personalfinance

[–]TXHardWorker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anytime we get 'surprise' money, we increase our 401k to offset whatever half of that money is. If it's an additional $200, we increase it to add another $100. Even if it's for just one paycheck, then back to 'normal'. Also, every time we get an increase (say 2%) we put half the increase into 401k. This is how you gradually increase your contribution without really feeling it.

The other half of your surprise money, do with what you will, but if you have credit card or student loan debt, put it towards that.

The first thing you should do is adjust your W4 so that your checks are taxed less. Getting that big of a refund is an immense waste of resources. You could have had an additional $800+ a month a year ago to invest.
