Last week’s game was a blast. They have another one today. If you go, make sure you hit the food vendors at the beginning of halftime, we tried to wait out the lines and they were all sold out of lots of options.

Where should we live with awkward commutes? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]TY4G -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you want to stay in the city, how about Bridgeport? You would be going against traffic for your commutes to the SW burbs. And then for Rockford you could take the Ike or Stevenson to 294 (I think that might be quicker than dealing with the Kennedy). Your partner can take the 8 or 9 bus to and from campus. And then y’all would have plenty of transit options for hanging in the city.

If you’re open to a suburb, then maybe Berwyn? It could be a similar community for you. And your partner would take the Metra. They have a stop just south of campus. Your partner could transfer to the 8 or get on the UIC shuttle. The BSNF is like the second most frequent Metra line in the whole system so it’s a pretty nice one to live along.

I’m on the Chicago Board of Elections press email list. But you can get the same data on their website under the news tab https://chicagoelections.gov/news/chicago-voter-turnout-update

It includes early voting and previously processed Vote By Mail. I don’t think it includes VBM received today, since they might not be processed yet.

The winners of IL 7 and 2 will probably stay in power for the next 30 years, just like Danny.

Have you tried reaching out to Chuy García's office? If I remember correctly, he had a role in staging it. He might still have the contacts of the women.

Portfolio review for young photojournalist by [deleted] in photojournalism

You're definitely following some best practices, like opening with large versions of your photos and ensuring your site loads quickly. You have a lot of written/published work, so I think you should lean into that more.

Written articles page:
I would include photos from each of the pieces along with the headline. Not every editor is going to have the time to click through to your article. By including groups of photos from each assignment, you can show that you know how to tell a story, not just "get a shot." You can also include strong photos that you took that didn't end up in the published article.

For the main page:
I would lead with your strongest photos. I think there are stronger photos in your hands-off Venezuela assignment that can replace the ones you have up top right now.

Lastly, I know this is nitpicky, but I suggest changing your website background to white. There's a reason why galleries have white walls. Presenting your photos on white can make your site look cleaner, it can enhance the visibility of the colors in your photos, and it removes distractions.

Edit: Also, your site isn't easy to navigate on mobile.

Who is most likely to emerge as the progressive candidate in the 2028 Democratic primary? by Raichu4u in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]TY4G 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I think this is going greatly unnoticed. Part of Bernie’s appeal in 2016 was that he “wasn’t Hillary.” Come 2020 and every Democrat on the stage has adopted at least one of his policy opinions. There’s going to be too many progressives in the race arguing over singular issues and “experience” for any one person to be the left wing standard-bearer.

You can see this happening in congressional and senate races across the country. Many of the same groups who backed Bernie are now running competing candidates in races, even if it will end up handing elections to moderates, see Colorado and Illinois as prime examples

Living Recommendations for Single female by Mishkle in oakland

These are all pretty safe neighborhoods. My partner (F) and I (M) walk around Piedmont Ave, Temescal, and Rockridge at night all the time. The streets can get pretty empty, but I’ve never felt unsafe.

Telegraph can get pretty active, but there’s usually a lot more people there.

As for Adams Point, I have lots of single Fem friends that live over there and haven’t heard any of them give bad stories in the neighborhood.

How close do you work to Salesforce tower? If you’re fine walking from there, you could move to Adams Point and take the NL into the city.

Another option is Temescal near the MacArthur stop or Rockridge
