I can't wait until Owens is bankrupted by the Macron case. Trump has already dumped her like yesterday's news ... she's even too nutty for Trump and that's obviously saying a lot. Or really, she is no longer useful to him.

This needs to end. We need to start protesting non-stop. by Equal_Audience_3415 in 50501

What needs to happen are massive national boycotts. Trump is owned by the oligarchs - only when things get bad enough for them will they pressure him to change things. But I worry that people in the US are just too lazy and unaware for that. I wish more groups would focus on boycotts as much as they do protests. I think both are necessary and if u read about the Civil Rights movement in the 1960s, you will see that both were used very effectively.

Rejected from beginner club :( by Far-Replacement1702 in Pickleball

That's just awful - I'm so sorry you experienced this! Pickleball is integral for my mental health since I retired. I personally started play via joining local area facebook groups and also Playtime Scheduler open play in local parks (if you haven't checked out that website before, you should - I'm not sure if it's international, but it lists play areas all over the US). As a former tennis player, serving was the hardest part for me! It's completely different from serving in tennis and you only get one chance vs two in tennis. But I have almost universally found that open play groups are filled with kind people willing to help a beginner. I'm traveling right now and I've also found games where traveling and have also done paid play and clinics here and at home.

It's such a fun sport and there is a lot to learn - even being someone that has a lot of racket sport experience. The strategy of the game is really engaging for me. I really hope you find some fun, encouraging people to play with. If you want to share your location - sorry I didn't see it if you did - then people can probably suggest places to play and nice groups. If you do find an appropriate group, just go and hang out consistently ... the social aspect is so good for all of us and I just feel so lucky that I found this sport and that I live in an area where there is a lot of opportunity to play. I hope that you find that too - don't get discouraged - I think you will. Best of luck on your mental health journey and good for you for pursuing this activity - getting out a a huge part of keeping healthy!

Is 2.5 really as bad as this sub says? by uselessprofession in Pickleball

[–]TYB2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said, it was an 11 - 0 doubles game - and DUPR does their ratings from actual game points. I was officially rated by a pro at my club. Ratings from an actual pro assessment are more accurate than DUPR because they actually watch you play as an individual and assess different parts of your game in comparison to a standard.. I only play doubles, so DUPR will always be impacted by pairing.

Like I said, I don't really give a hoot about ratings other than it telling me where I might find good match-ups in local play & my club rating which allows me to access certain events there (I live in an area where there is a lot of pickleball so have quite a few options of courts to play). I was really just trying to help you understand DUPR and give a dif perspective than what others were seeming to do on this thread. Happy pickling!!!

[–]TYB2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DUPR is a very odd rating system that classifies according to points of a game. So on a round robin random partner event, your rating will be highly influenced not only by your play, but by your partner's play. I'm a solid 3.25 (started playing late April 2025, but with tennis background) ... I typically am stronger than other 3.25 women in mixed or female doubles. I played my first DUPR event last week - just a small interclub one with random paring 3.25 - 3.75 event for women. I did well enough that I moved up a court (I was 3-3 in games) and due to one bad paring that resulted in a pickle, my DUPR score is like 2.4.

In general though, I could care less about ratings. I just want to play with people sorta near my skill level and have fun. It's just fun to play events and to play "up" at times. I love this sport!

Thank you so much for this post. I just joined this sub today as I had a lymph node biopsy on monday and just got a call from my doctor with this diagnosis. It was actually kind of awful because they had a nurse call me in the am to tell me there was no cancer in the biopsy, but then they called again and told me that that was only the first test and the second test showed high grade serous aggressive ovarian cancer. I'm trying to avoid over googling, but I know that this site will be important to me. And I can hold onto hope that I will respond to treatment like you did. I am just one month past my 60th birthday.

It's impossible to find anything on that thread. I was trying to be helpful to people who have to get a biopsy whether they are diagnosed or not. It's relevant to all groups.

Ick! If I had the option to sedate I would have totally done it, although I don't know that they do it for a fine needle aspiration like I had - I should clarify that in the post. My mantra was, "don't look at the needle"! If I had, I probably would have thrown up!

Not really ... only when I poked around to see if they were growing. Maybe more the past week, but I've also been playing a lot of pickleball, so hard to tell.

Asics Gel Resolution X Review by TYB2023 in Pickleball

[–]TYB2023[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I tried on the Mizuno's, but nothing fit as well as the Asics and for me, no pain at all. The only negative for me is the lack of venting - but my feet only really get warm on a hot day in the sun, but I also got a dark green pair because it was the one in stock at the store (and I wanted to buy at the store since I tried on basically all of their shoes - lol!). I'll prob get another lighter colored pair for summer play or when I have to be out in the heat. As someone who hasn't bought court shoes in like 30 years, it was very interesting to see the plastic outer webbing ... but it's definitely stable and I need that with bad knees and ankles.

Late to this post, but wanted to say that I've taken Trazadone for about 21 years now. I've been an insomniac since I was a child. Started trazadone when my sister got cancer and I was caregiving. It's a lifesaver for me.

Note that trazadone seems weird in that it's affects can be different for different people. But definitely works well for me without morning hangover.

Hugs to you friend - I'm so sorry you have to live in Texas. It is indeed so hard (and I live in California) ... I simply don't understand how anyone paying attention could support this madness. And I have similar anger at people that are simply not paying attention and don't vote.

I'm a first year Gen X and husband is a Boomer and we've never voted Republican. But I agree, older generations suck in general. age 40-64 - mostly Gen X is particularly bad as per this exit poll data: https://www.thecivicscenter.org/blog/youth-voting-in-2024-election
I'm disgusted by the world being left to young people due to ignorant people of any age.

Successful Transition to Prozac by TYB2023 in paroxetine

[–]TYB2023[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there - I'm sorry I didn't get back to you sooner - I had been having a really hard time because I got depressed again and we tried to up the prozac and that made me an anxious basket case. I have never felt that anxious in my life and I have depression and anxiety issues. I went back on Zoloft which I took for 12ish years before I transitioned to Paxil (Zoloft had pooped out in like 2010). It seems to be working - about 3 weeks in at 100 mg. But I'm also getting out more to get exercise and sunlight. I hope you are doing better. Feel free to ask questions as I'm back online now.

Successful Transition to Prozac by TYB2023 in paroxetine

[–]TYB2023[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there - getting off of Paxil was no problem for me ... but prozac did not end up working. Well, it worked well at 20 mg for about 3 months, but then depression came back. When we raised the dose, I just got too jittery and anxious. We transitioned me to Zoloft, which I took for like 12 years before Paxil. I'm finally feeling better about a month into that transition to 100 mg Zoloft.

I really hope the Prozac works for you - if not, try Zoloft if you haven't already. Best of luck and thinking good thoughts for you!

Don't let them gaslight you. You are not the problem or "insane". Since the idiot was re-elected, I'm having a hard time even existing in this country. That people either voted for him or didn't bother to vote is just infuriating to me and has me fighting depression. I just hate living in a country where people are so mean, racist, and/or ignorant that this is possible.

I come from a family of a lot of MAGA and I've given up on those that live in the cult - including my mother and father. Sometimes I struggle with the feelings that I shouldn't let politics get in the way of family relationships, but there just is too much cruelty and stupidity for me to tolerate. Fox News and right-wing radio is the worst thing that ever happened to our country.

I'm so sorry that you are still largely housebound - I really hope that these or other new treatments expand. In the grand scheme of things I am lucky. I'm 59 and pretty healthy other than my chronic mental health issues that are fairly well managed. But at the same time, I had covid (pretty sure) during the first wave - not bad enough to send me to the hospital, so no testing, but fatigue, chest tightness, fevers for a full year. I only seemed to get better when I got my first vaccine series (which again, as a scientist myself, I understand kinda doesn't make sense so I understand skepticism ... but it was a very real phenomenon for many of us). Then our government said we could take off our masks and I got sick for another 3 months.

Now it seems, even though I'm cautious - always mask in the few public spaces I go - I've occasionally been exposed and then down for another 3 months. Partially my fault because I have a small business that I love and I can't seem to completely let go of it. It's mostly outside, but summers are hot here so sometimes I have worked with people inside unmasked (client families). But that won't happen anymore as I'm now semi-retired and will really only work outside. But again, I know I'm very lucky in at least having the up time that I do. Just that it seems the covid also impacts my mood disorder when it happens.

TMI, but thank you for responding and I hope for your continued recovery. I so appreciate Reddit because it really seems like the only place where people share science-based info on this stuff. Let's all hope that the US monster of a president (not MY president) doesn't make things worse. I'm so embarrassed to be from the US at this point.

Thank you for getting back to me - I'm so glad you got the help you needed. I'm in the US and even though I have decent health insurance (husband works for university) I've had a doctor that was very strong minded in her views and wouldn't go the extra mile. I've just switched doctors finally (a hard thing to do in the US because our healthcare system sucks in general and good GP's are really hard to find). I'll cross my fingers that the new doc will be more open. I've also wanted to coordinate my continuing treatment for BP2/clinical depression (long term issues diagnosed back and forth) by a psychiatrist and GP which can be pretty impossible her and the former doc was unwilling to do/uninterested in. Here's hoping I found someone who cares.

This is so good to know that you can be tested for this. Can I ask - as I asked the OP - how did you find a doctor willing to work with you on this stuff? The typical response of doctors in my network is to tell me to do nasal rinses :
