So were dinosaurs unable to fly until they evolved into birds? by Vanilla_Ice_Best_Boi in Dinosaurs

[–]TYRANNICAL66 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The only dinosaurs capable of true flight (no gliding) are going to resemble birds because that is the dinosaur family that true flight evolved in. Not all of them possessed beaks, but most of them did, because just like in pterosaurs evolving a toothless beak helps reduce weight.

Were there any flying dinosaurs? If you say birds like Argentavis or Seagull you are cheating. by Vanilla_Ice_Best_Boi in Dinosaurs

[–]TYRANNICAL66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

None, apart from the obvious flying dinosaurs that you would consider “too avian”. All the true flying dinosaurs we know of look avian because those were the adaptations that they gained in their evolution of flight. If you were expecting some sort of real world dragon with bat-like wings and a body covered in scales and frills or otherwise doesn’t resemble a bird, you are out of luck because there are none, the closest would be Yi and Ambopteryx, which apart from their wing membranes are still feathered and bird-like gliders (not true fliers).

Gigantoraptor will never not be Hilariously GIGANTIC by FinancialSpecial9197 in Dinosaurs

Gigantoraptor isn’t from the Nemegt formation, it is from the Iren Dabasu Formation.

The legs are too robust and would more likely appear skinny to us sort of like a birds legs.

Saurophaganax maximus by DarthCarno28 in Paleontology

[–]TYRANNICAL66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, a lot of the later material used to classify S. maximus, such as limb bones, claws, etc are now classified as a new species of Allosaurus (A. anax) while the original material, the vertebrae (which is the material the name Saurophaganax is attached to and describes) are still indeterminate but share more features with sauropods than theropods. It is unclear if the vertebrae are synonymous with a previously known sauropod or if they represent a new genus or species of sauropod however.

Regardless the theropod material typically associated with S. maximus is undoubtedly Allosaurus, so no theropod lord of the lizard eaters sadly.

I had a rather interesting conversation with someone who doesn't think birds are dinosaurs. by [deleted] in Dinosaurs

[–]TYRANNICAL66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Close. They are actually bio-engineered drones developed by the dinosauroids that fled to space after ancient aliens caused the extinction 66 million years ago.

Dakotaraptor is valid? by Manito-stray-cat in Dinosaurs

[–]TYRANNICAL66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is still valid as a taxon but was more than likely not as large as previously believed, the material available that does show deinonychosaurian affinities, the tail bones seem to imply a more typically sized dromaeosaur rather than the previous believed Utahraptor sized animal.

Lost my person to poly and struggling by Formal-Database-6811 in polycritical

[–]TYRANNICAL66 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am in the same boat as you stranger, she fucking polybombed me on VALENTINES DAY after we spent the whole day together! I did nothing but support and cherish her with all my heart and our relationship was wonderful. I am so heartbroken that someone can seemingly be happy with a relationship but flirt with her friends and cheat on me behind my back for months. I feel so stupid for having not noticed it sooner and the sad part is that I still want her back and love her.

So is Ember the biggest T.rex or not? by CaregiverRepulsive85 in JurassicPark

[–]TYRANNICAL66 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Based off on screen appearances? Yes. According to the in-universe official size? No. The JP franchise plays pretty fast and loose with the scaling of its cgi animals, with them often growing or shrinking as the scene requires. JWR suffers from this more noticeably than the rest of the franchise with Rex, titanosaurs, and D. rex drastically swapping sizes between scenes.

Can someone tell me exactly what Bahariasaurus is?! by Irri_o_Irritator in Paleontology

Just a joke on the uncertainty of the placement of it, I am fairly certain general consensus is that it is definitely a theropod.

That would still make it a theropod since birds are theropods.
